He may not be feeling it but that doesn't mean it's not going to aggravate the injury and make it worse. All sorts of injuries and complaints don't turn up until long after the initial injury. Some people get pain in middle age relating to injuries that must have occurred as kids as they never healed properly, but at the time they had no idea they had the problem. Many knee problems usually start years before they get to the stage of actually causing discomfort.
