It honestly wouldn’t bother me if every other team in our league got deducted fifty points, promotion by default is still promotion the record books would just show that we went up.

exactly. means the rest have "cheated".
These aren't simple mistakes - the process goes over 3 years so clubs can't suddenly be shocked/surprised when they wake up one morning and find they've breached the rules
