Sheffield United are lining up a new move for Coventry City striker Leon Clarke, Sky Sports understands.
The Blades tried to sign Clarke before the transfer window closed, but saw their enquiry for the 28-year-old rejected by Coventry.
However, United are now ready to rekindle their interest in Clarke and they have money to do the deal following the recent investment into the club by Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad.
Clarke, who joined Coventry last January, has impressed for the Sky Blues - he scored 10 goals last season, and has already netted four times this term.
United boss David Weir is desperate to bolster his attacking options as his side have struggled in front of goal so far this season, and he has identified Clarke as his top target.
Coventry are reluctant to lose Clarke, but United are now ready to test their resolve to hang onto the striker with a loan move with a view to a permanent deal.

How much do you think it would take for us to sell? £1 million? Got to think how we would replace him. Letting him go in the loan window would be stupid in the extreme. If they must sell wait until January when we can actually replace him.

I just want to keep our better players regardless. It would be detrimental to fans morale (if it could get any worse) and make even the strongest CCFC fans think twice.

I'd like at least 1 or 2 days when we could just relax and not worry about shit like this.

It would have been better as a joke.

Agreed. However it'll be no joke and beyond misery if we start selling our senior figures, the younger lads in the squad are gaining a lot from the likes of Leon, Baker and Murphy..

Ever since I've supported them 'better players attract interest from other clubs' has not been a news story!

Agree. But it used to be better clubs not competitors or in some cases what I call smaller clubs.
When Managers are leaving to go to Huddersfield I start to worry.
I just feel so fragile with the situation at the moment and expect that every little rumour will become reality.

Unfortunately the position we are in on and off the field, especially off our better players if playing well will attract interest and our owners need money to replace what it is costing them with this ridiculous Sixfields debacle.

One way or another(Song title there somewhere) It will show SISU's true intent as to do things right by CCFC won't it?

He will not be going there, it simply wont happen. We are playing a lot better than them and i firmly believe that he has found his feet in Coventry and he will want to stay. Fuck off back to yorkshire under the shadow of wednesday

Bore off Sheff Utd.

For once, surprisingly, I'm not worried about rumours.

Pressley was heavily involved in negotiations during the window, and no doubt he'll tell Weir where do go.
Sisu, regardless, deserve a slight tilt of the glass for not accepting the bids either.

Could be media hot air. Sheff Utd were interested, got pegged back, got a prince, here's a blank cheque.

Probably nothing more than a scribe trying to fill some column inches. Why can't the lazy bustards find some real news to write about rather than making it up? 'Eye move'? That happens when journalists are asleep!

I don't think we will sell anyone unless it's a really stupid bid, certainly not anyone to a divisional team. Christie to a champs side in Jan poss? I just think with this whole NOPM campaign and the move to Sixfields etc could work in the teams favour regarding SISU's stance on transfers. Imagine you are Joy and Tim, facing huge loses, backlashes, protests etc and yet they insist they are here for the long term, well if they are they need to try getting people on board by any means possible. So imagine if we loaned Leon Clarke or any other player for that matter to a club now, it would damage the relationship of fans and board even more. No, they have to keep. If they want to turn the fans opinion round on them, this is the start.

Also wtf is the point of us loaning out our best striker until Jan? No benefit whatsoever. I tell ya, Weir is under pressure already and if things don't pick up for him soon, he'll be gone.

This departure has been ruled out by Steve Waggott:

Coventry City have dismissed reports that Sheffield United are poised to take Leon Clarke on loan with a view to making a permanent move in January.
The Blades tried to sign the 28-year-old before the transfer deadline earlier this month but were knocked back by the Sky Blues.
Now United flush with cash after recent investment by a Saudi Prince are ready to up their offer of a loan deal with a view to joining the club full-time when the next transfer window opens, according to Sky Sports.
But City’s development director Steve Waggott told the Telegraph today: “There has been no contact since the transfer window closed because we warned other clubs off our players then.
“Leon – and no other member of our first-team squad for that matter – will be going out on loan.
“We will only consider loan moves if we feel it will benefit a younger member of the squad to get valuable first-team experience.”

If we are not getting loans in at the moment due to the form of the first team, the next phase has to be new contracts for Wilson, Thomas, Christie surely?

Pressley did see before the Colchester game that this is the next step he will be looking to make.

I'd let him go for anything round half a million as long as there was a replacement. Very average finisher.

You Sir, are a grade A plonker.

This 'average finisher' scored 19 goals in 27 games last season in league 1 and has scored 4 goals in 6 games for us so far already and god knows how many shots has hit the woodwork. Unlucky not to be on par with Callum Wilson so far and will no doubt score 15+ goals again this season.

Hate to say it, but when you're in te relegation zone looking to Rotherham for your ground building plans. Sheff Utd are "a bigger club".

Time to forget the last 50 years, this is Fishers vision of the future!

Thank you for the constructive reply. I bet he would have one of the weakest chance conversion rates in the league. We create SO many chances and I always said when he was playing on his own up front last season, that as soon as we had another striker given a permanent run up top that striker would score more. In comes (admitantly talented) 21 year old who's scored twice the amount that Clarke has. I believe our midfield is the strongest in the league and any half decent striker will score goals.

Has he - or don't you know - too lazy to research it I suppose. You are clearly clueless.

Do you expect me to watch 12 games every week and tally up every missed chance by every striker in the league? This is why I didn't state it as a fact and I used the term "bet" which is when you don't know something as absolute. You are clearly clueless.
