Shaun Miller is determined to make up for lost time after admitting he has “wasted” the last five months.

Miller is set to make his full Crawley debut at Bristol City this weekend having joined on a month’s loan from Coventry City on deadline day two weeks ago.

The striker has endured a miserable time at the Ricoh Arena where he has started just one game all season following his move from Sheffield United in the summer.

Reds boss John Gregory tried to sign the 27-year-old when he was released by the Blades and Miller admits he made the wrong choice joining the Sky Blues.

Miller said: “I was close to joining in the summer. I had some good chats with the manager and my agent was in contact with the club for a few weeks.

“The biggest issue was that Crawley was three and a half hours away from where I live and I’d just had a new baby and was in the process of moving house.

“I had other clubs interested a lot closer to home so it purely came down to that in the end. I regret it now because I have wasted five months in some respects.

“Wherever you go there are never any guarantees so you’ve got to take it on the chin but it has been massively frustrating.

“I’ve not really been given a chance. I’ve started one game and came off after an hour and that’s it.

“After a while you get the impression you are not going to play much and as I only have a one-year contract I need to look elsewhere.

“I don’t know if I’ve got a future at Coventry. They have got quite a few strikers on loan who are due to go back in January so you never know what is going to happen.

“I’m just looking forward to getting some games under my belt for Crawley and hopefully scoring a few goals.

“I’m not looking too far ahead at the moment but if I get a run of games and do well hopefully there will be an option to do something either here or somewhere else.”

Miller came on in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw at home to Chesterfield 13 days ago but is likely to make his first start since October at Ashton Gate with top scorer Izale McLeod serving a one-match ban.

The former Crewe frontman boasts a modest career strike rate of 57 goals in 235 games but highlighted his eye for goal when he bagged a first-half hat-trick in the Sussex Senior Cup victory over Eastbourne United last week

Miller is confident he can emulate those predatory instincts for Crawley in League One as he looks to be the ‘fox in the box’ Crawley have been missing since the departure of Matt Tubbs nearly three years ago.

Miller added: “I am a goalscorer and a finisher. A lot of my goals come in the box. I am very focused on getting in and around the goal.

“I scored 19 in a season at Crewe one year and then when I got in the team at Sheffield United I scored eight in my last ten starts before I did my cruciate.

“I scored three in five at Shrewsbury so I know that when I get a run in the team that I do tend to get goals.

“I am more than confident that if I am play regularly I can score a minimum of 15 goals a season.”

I don't see why he hasn't been given more opportunities here ...... its not like our strikers that do play are scoring many

He's basically saying it was a mistake coming here. I feel for the guy cus he came here wanting to make an impact and hasn't been given a chance. He scored a hat-trick in his 1st game with Crawley! If he wants to come back, give him a shot. If he's done with the club, get him off the wage bill and let him start again. Simples

I thought his loan was just to get games and then come back to challenge but looks like it's ahead of a freebie in January.

It is odd how he's seemingly been written off whilst Tudgay remains.

If Tudgay's still with us by February 1st he must have incriminating photos of someone, there's no other explanation for it.

Always looked dangerous when he has come on.

Maybe Pressley fell out with him?

I personally think he is our best striker never given a chance another player that looks good but SP seems to think otherwise after signing him but we still have Jackson Tudgay Mcqouid who imo are shit.

Shame. I thought Miller looked alright when he did get a chance.

Miller shoots towards the goal so is banished from the squad, he was also rated the best finisher at the club, so again this is not allowed.

If Nouble and McQuoid return to their clubs in January, we may still see Miller get a chance. It is really annoying to see us sign our own strike force and then leave them out in favour of loaned-in players!

im anouther who likes miller,in my opinion SP has not got a clue when it comes to strikers ,well going forward full stop .the only thing he is consistant in, is midfield keepball ,going sideways and backwards. even when mcquiod was our top scorer, he left him out,.SP has a way at freezing players out ,he did it with baker ,adams ,gave mousa a public ear bashing ,.The way SP mucks and messes we will be lucky to keep hold of loanees ,attract replacements and get the few on short contracts to re-sign. And those out on loan like Clarke and miller ,may do well and attract an offer that our owners will jump at

Why would he play loan players who perform worse than a signed player and then moan about nOt liking loan players??

He should be grateful he only wasted 5 months on the club, us fans have wasted an entire life time.

I feel for him. Has been massively let down by SP IMO, always thought he looked decent in his cameo performances. But I guess he doesn't play "the Coventry way" or have our "DNA".

Always seemed to want to get forward too. Always gonna be overlooked if you do that
