Completely agree. Would never say a moral life isn’t possible as an atheist or a moral life is always lived by someone with faith.

Of course someone with faith has morals. It's just a matter of why are they doing a particular thing - is it because they FEEL it's right or because they're TOLD it's right. Weirdly the only surefire way to know if its a moral decision is if it goes against the doctrine.

On the other side, of course there are people without faith who just look out for number one and exploit those around them because this is all they'll get.

Find it astounding that people can talk about the Rotherham girls of the same age being groomed and no one sane says “they knew what they were doing”. But the exact same thing with this girl and it’s “fuck her she knew what was what”. The hypocrisy is ridiculous.

She’s our mess. She’s a UK citizen. You can’t just wash your hands of people and leave them to war torn countries to look after.

String her up, lock her away, throw cabbages at her for life if you want. But the attitudes here are disgraceful IMO, both from a child protection and global politics standpoint.

Maybe she's not and never has been mentally fit to make these decisions for herself, and why she was able to be recruited to extremism. That is another kettle of fish and arguably one that her lawyers may argue in the future too.

But on the face of it for me at least the issue is her lack of remorse since. When she left I did feel they were impressionable schoolgirls who'd been hoodwinked into a cause and once there the reality would set it and they'd realise it'd been a terrible mistake.

That doesn't appear to be the case with her. She still seems absolutely fine with the ideals of ISIS, Islamic extremism and the barbaric rules and methods of enforcement they use. This is a danger to the public. If she wasn't a UK citizen (which she now isn't by the sounds of it) would you be suggesting we let her in? I agree it's not fair to let a war-torn poverty stricken country deal with her, but it's not like Syria is blameless.

If she'd done the interviews and said things like "sorry" "I made a mistake" "they're just barbaric" "I want to help fight extremism and stop other people getting caught up in it" then I'd be more than happy to say let her back in, question her and obtain as much information as possible etc. and let her try to piece her life back together. But she didn't, so it's on her. If by the age of 19 you don't know that chopping peoples heads off for not agreeing with you is totally unacceptable you're never going to get it.

Was completely unaware of that until you mentioned it. Is this the first chance the media have had to speak to them (i.e. purely coincidental) or is something bigger at play here?

Ahh, "I should be able to return without showing remorse for my actions and still declaring support for IS".

Denied.

"Shit, I'll show remorse now and claim it was a mistake".

Don’t like religion ie man made rules to claim I know better than anyone else. Follow jesus and seek to live my life in his footsteps. I’m a Christian man who is aware of his faults and seeks to transform all I am to be more like jesus every day. Probably sounds like religious to you guys

She is a victim at 15 although responsible criminally for her actions of course as the age of criminality is 12 in the U.K. apart from when we decide its 10 for the Bulger pair.
At 19 and a British citizen she has seen things we wouldn’t ever see and I’m happy they have dehumanised her to say things that are just awful.
She should be allowed back in the U.K. to face the law. I’m almost ok with not risking anything to help her back but if the times and Sky can interview her it doesn’t seem as if it’s too dangerous to be there

The age for criminal responsibility in 1993 was 10 that’s why Venables and Thompson were prosecuted not any other reason. The age of criminal responsibility in England Wales and Northern Ireland was changed from 10 - 12 in 2010. The age for criminal responsibility in Scotland is 8.

Oft quoted but never right, if you actually look at the numbers.

If you're looking at deaths for non-religious war they massively outstrip those for religious conflict.

Having read a bit about the powers used by the government to withdraw her citizenship it all seems rather totalitarian. No evidence needed. Funny really, Grendel's much hated Marxists Messrs Corbyn and McDonnell voted against the bill that made this powers legal

No I know it as I specialised in criminal law before I retired. Juveniles are generally tried in Crown Court for serious offences after initial hearings at what was then called Juvenile Court, now called Youth Court.

Reminded myself how outrageous the ages are historically and kids being hung in the 20th century just shows how far we’ve matured as a nation. Also how the ages differ across the globe

We should let her in on the basis she becomes a spy for us within ISIS.

Put a hidden suicide bomb on her and send her into an ISIS camp, set it off.

In the pub for 6PM.

"She is a victim at 15 although responsible criminally for her actions of course as the age of criminality is 12 in the U.K. apart from when we decide its 10 for the Bulger pair"

That's a hell of a leap. Whatever the arguments for and against this one, surely nobody has any sympathy for that pair of c*nts! 10 or not the things they did was beyond taking a kid and killing him. Beyond evil and 100% knew exactly what they were doing.
