Season tickets soaring! (8 Viewers)

In a mood of optimism in the wake of the appointment of Andy Thorn as Coventry City manager, along with his exciting attacking style of football, season tickets sales have boomed.

Coventry City are now hoping season ticket sales will top the 10,000 mark for the first time sine The Ricoh Arena opened six years ago.

Why ticket sales have been so buoyant is partly down to the new mood of optimism now Thorn has the side paying an attractive, attacking style of football, which has produced very competitive football and shows promise that the side could actually achieve a top six finish.

The new pricing structure, which was controversial with some parts of the fan base, along with the discounted 'early bird' offer has seen season tickets sales of nearly 7,000 up to last Friday when the 'early bird' discount offer expired.

While the majority of season tickets sold, 85%, have been bought by existing season ticket holders, that does mean that 15% are first time buyers and that is an encouraging figure.

The chief executive of Coventry City Paul Clouting said, “
We are really pleased with the figure and are very appreciative to all of the supporters who have opted to buy their tickets early.”
About 9000 season tickets were sold last season, which is 500 fewer than the 9500 record season ticket sales since The Rioch Arena opened in 2005.

With the club hoping to top the 10,000 mark for the first time, which will bring in much needed revenue, it is still far short of neighbouring clubs like Derby County who regularly exceed 20,000 season ticket sales each year.

Clouting was in upbeat mood about the increase in ticket sales, but still wants to sell more. He said,

“Season ticket revenue is vital and achieving this level of sales is a real boost for the club."

“There is no question that there is an optimistic feeling about the club after we ended the season on a very positive note. Supporters have seen the way Andy Thorn wants the side to play football and they have responded. We made the decision to not only to reduce our prices for the majority of supporters but also to make the whole ticketing structure far simpler and I think that has also been a factor.

“We have a very encouraging proportion of new season ticket holders purchasing for next season and we are confident, as we announce our plans for next season, that our sales will grow. Fans who still want to keep the same seat as last season should renew as soon as possible."

"All seats are now released so if fans want to try to keep their seat from this season, they need to apply as soon as they can. Early bird may be over but our season tickets still represent great value compared to other clubs and on a cost per match basis.”
Supporters are reminded that they can spread the cost of payments over eight months, but if they elect to do so, much have signed up to the club's direct debit scheme by May 31st.
The cost of season tickets has risen slightly since last Saturday, but still represent good value for money.

Concessionary prices in every block, with the exception of blocks 19, 20 and 21, are now priced at £198, which is around £8.61 per match. In blocks 19, 20 and 21 concessionary Season Ticket prices have been held at £286 until August 1.

Junior Sky Blues (JSBs) season tickets remain free for the under-sevens in the family zone and are £92 for over-sevens which is £4 per game.

JSBs under seven remain at £36 (£1.57 per match) in the standard zones around the Ricoh Arena and are now £118 (£5.13) for over-sevens.

Prices will rise to full price on August 1.

Its pretty good and I think its reflecting the positive mood around the club at the moment. There was a point in the middle of the boothroyd run that I was contemplating not renewing and I think a lot of people felt like that around then. Hopefully we will get more in the 15 and 16 to try and help the atmosphere!

This season's season ticket prices are quality I think. Just reading up on Donny's site, their early bird price was £340. If we could get over 10k that would be stepping in the right direction.

Why is it that Derby get an average of 20,000 each season? What are their prices like? Do they have better concessions than us? Must be a reason somewhere, surely!

There was an offer where fans could get 5 year season tickets at Pride Park at the start of their 11 point, record breaking season. They had quite a lot of supporters take up that deal.

Although i cant see me making every game due to work and living so far away with the Concessionary prices being so good its still good value and well worth taking a chance!

Already excited for next season, PUSB!

you're a bit late there sy and as a season ticket holder you'll soon get into the swing of it. The time to start getting excited for next season usually occurs around November. It was a little later this time around but we're all whipped up into a frenzy by July 1st :)

So many kids and concessions in there OSB. £10k at £286 is only £2.86m so more likely below £2m and the fact we're only at 7,000 currently is more like £1.4m I reckon.

As you say still better than anticipated, but not the level of revenue which will keep the investors happy and on pitch success remains the only thing which will create any decent revenue stream.

Very encouraging to see season tickets sales go up this year, just shows that the fans are there when the football is attractive. Renewed mine at the Ricoh last week.

If we do indeed get 12 or 15k sold instead of the normal 9 or 10k then clearly we can expect minimum averages to go up by that amount regardless of how bad or good we play. So getting a regular 18k and even 20k looks likely and that my friends can only be good for CCFC.
If Thorn gets an early run going we may break 20k on a regular basis....can that be possible??!!

It can be Paxman! Look at the 2005/06 season! As the offer or the season tickets at £299 runs untill 1st August currently being at the 7,000 mark can only be a good thing! At the min they are forcasting around 10,300 season tickets sold! Something wqhich i think they will meet pretty easily with time to spare untill the 1st August! I would like 15,000 but can see 12-13,000 which would be excellent.

Good football and people will pay to watch!
