In a mood of optimism in the wake of the appointment of Andy Thorn as Coventry City manager, along with his exciting attacking style of football, season tickets sales have boomed.
Coventry City are now hoping season ticket sales will top the 10,000 mark for the first time sine The Ricoh Arena opened six years ago.
Why ticket sales have been so buoyant is partly down to the new mood of optimism now Thorn has the side paying an attractive, attacking style of football, which has produced very competitive football and shows promise that the side could actually achieve a top six finish.
The new pricing structure, which was controversial with some parts of the fan base, along with the discounted 'early bird' offer has seen season tickets sales of nearly 7,000 up to last Friday when the 'early bird' discount offer expired.
While the majority of season tickets sold, 85%, have been bought by existing season ticket holders, that does mean that 15% are first time buyers and that is an encouraging figure.
The chief executive of Coventry City Paul Clouting said, “
With the club hoping to top the 10,000 mark for the first time, which will bring in much needed revenue, it is still far short of neighbouring clubs like Derby County who regularly exceed 20,000 season ticket sales each year.
Clouting was in upbeat mood about the increase in ticket sales, but still wants to sell more. He said,
Concessionary prices in every block, with the exception of blocks 19, 20 and 21, are now priced at £198, which is around £8.61 per match. In blocks 19, 20 and 21 concessionary Season Ticket prices have been held at £286 until August 1.
Junior Sky Blues (JSBs) season tickets remain free for the under-sevens in the family zone and are £92 for over-sevens which is £4 per game.
JSBs under seven remain at £36 (£1.57 per match) in the standard zones around the Ricoh Arena and are now £118 (£5.13) for over-sevens.
Prices will rise to full price on August 1.

About 9000 season tickets were sold last season, which is 500 fewer than the 9500 record season ticket sales since The Rioch Arena opened in 2005.
