SCUNTHORPE United boss Alan Knill believes Joe Murphy will leave the relegated club in the summer - because he's good enough to stay in the Championship.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper - who has been linked with Coventry City on a regular basis over the past few seasons - will be available on a Bosman free at the end of the season.

And Knill believes Murphy and defender David Mirfin will leave the club in the summer as they prepare for life in League One.

He said:

I would expect David to be playing somewhere else next year. I honestly think he's a Championship player so I'd be surprised if he's not playing at that level next year.

"He hasn't indicated anything but I don't think he has to. He's out of contract and a free agent, which leaves him open to as many offers as he can possibly get.

"He'll then choose the right one for him. It's the same for Joe Murphy as well."

It was funny when we played Scunny a few weeks back. Fans in the Telegraph Stand were joking with him about being here next season. I do hope it's true. Didn't know he was leaving on a Bosman though... I rate him tbh.

I do hope we can get Murphy
