Scariest time at a ground. (1 Viewer)

I’ve experienced some great times following the Skyblues all around the country but also had a few hairy moments. The 1970’s particularly springs to mind, a time when you had to be aware of what was going on around you, away fans were always seen as fair game for the local yobs. I remember coming out of Highbury (Arsenal for the younger generation) with a mate of mine and it soon became apparent that we’d been spotted and were a target. We legged it and ended up going down onto the tube to get away which was great, but unfortunately we’d gone to the game on a coach which was parked by the ground. After some thought we had a night out in London and got the last train home, apologies if you were on our coach I hope you didn’t wait too long for us.

Dare I say our League 2 season was the first and only one where I felt intimidated by our own fans. People squaring up to my missus to get us to move out of seats we’d paid for even at home games when the play offs were getting close. Away games similar stuff people just acting like total knobs and not how it’s been before or after.

Only thing I can think of is raining coins at Molineux. Don’t care where it is, rivalry or no, housing opposition fans above/below one another is beyond careless.

I remember this, remember being on the back row of the lower tier and having all kinds of coins thrown at me 2ps, £1's. I went home richer than when i went. I spoke to my Wolves supporting friends after the game and they said they'd never seen their home fans riled up for a long time. Think it was pent up rage from not playing the baggies in so long.

Spit as well. Doesn’t hurt as much but it’s lowest of low. I had a bottle of sprite hit the visor of my cap. That would’ve hurt!

I never understood the layout of the away fans at the Molineux. They had a few of us perched up in the corner of the one stand and the rest on the bottom tier of the other. Could have easily put us all in the one stand and we would have fit just fine.

Maine road Man City in the cup was hairy always remember Pompey game highfield road,as a kid with the old man can remember runnin battles on Gosford park,Chelsea Leeds west ham days

Me and my old man got chased by a West Brom mob after we had won an FA cup replay at the Hawthorns in the 90's, luckily we were both fast runners.

Was that the 1-1, Aaron Phillips? I think if you’re down the south bank end, you’re fucked if the game goes the wrong (or right!) way.

Quite agree, no thought given to it and just asking for problems. Most fans act responsibly but you’ll always get the few that don’t.

I can't remember who scored our goals to be honest (I think Nuddy may have got one), I do remember the game having some bad blood and Paul Robinson being sent off.

My old mate Jason (about 6'4") piled into a load of Leeds fans in the old Spion Kop (the police tried to get him, and we were swapping his clothes so they didn't recognise him) they didn't catch him and he then moved abroad to live with his old man in Holland. Haven't heard from him since (one letter aside). Loved City though - think it was his last hoorah, as he was a bit of a headcase (sorry mate, but you were)!

Not intimidated but the least safe I ever felt was behind the goal for the FA Cup 5th round at Stoke in '87. Crushed against the barriers for 2 hours and feet barely touched the floor. Worth if for the result of course. Ironically I felt a lot safer at the Leppings Lane end for the quarter final...

Man City in the cup at Maine Road. Was a right tear up!!! Wolves always been nasty as you exit the ground and they are all waiting! Good old days!

I’ve been quite luck however I did go into the turnstile pub outside filbert street a couple the season we got relegated and felt a bit on edge . Turns out one of the biggest Leicester fans in there was my postman and he used to drink in my dads old pub so I was ok

My dad often tells me of being at Upton Park for a semi final ( I think ) in the early 80s he had my 2 older brothers with him and he said it was going off everywhere

Leeds at home in the Championship mid 2000s I guess, back when you could hire rooms in the Ricoh. I had booked a couple of rooms for me and the missus and her parents. You had to hang around an hour before you could get in after the match, it was getting a bit feisty around the ground so we decided we'd walk over to get a coffee in the big tesco. On that bridge bit there were a group of Leeds fans laying into anyone they could identify as Cov. One Cov lad out cold bleeding on the floor. Group of stone Island chavs came right up to my father in laws face shouting 'who are we' lucky none of us had Cov scarfs or coulous. We said we were just going shopping. They barged past us and started on a more obvious set of Cov fans.

Seen worse action with rival fans groups but that was the first time I saw indiscriminate violence, seemed like they were happy to give anyone in skyblue a kicking

Probably told this tale before, but as a teenager our coaches got ambushed by the Subway mob (or whatever they were called) at Wolves. I went into zombiie mode and carried on walking towards them and got completely ignored, as they pursued those who ran. Many years later when we stayed up at at Spurs, I was walking across a park back to our minibus, chatting with some bloke from Kenilworth, when the rest iof our minibus ran past, one lad calling to me 'run, Harry'. I said to the Kenilworth lad 'just carry on walking'. Again got ignored. Only shame was in seeing one of our lads in the distance getting attacked (we helped him when we got there) but didn't run to join in (apologies Gaz). Minibus tyres slashed, police helped us... fun with Sunderland fans on the motorway....eventful day.

That’s what I remember. Leeds fans ran on, load of kids from the west terrace when to meet them, Leeds fans ran at them and they all turned and legged it back to the west terrace. Was quite funny, in a “your not very hard” kind of way.

Same game in the Sky Blue stand a Leeds fan (who was so pissed he couldn’t stand up) decided to offer the entire stand out on his way to the toilet. A minute after he went a Cov fan (big lad) followed him in and then came out a few minutes later looking pleased with himself. Leeds fan came out a few minutes later, got his mates and left sharpish. Would have loved to know what was said in that toilet!
