They always doubled up on him. That would’ve meant someone else was free. Too bad we didn’t find the free man. Anyway, we go again next season and hopefully with a stronger deck. Felt like we played a man short the way Wright played the last 2 games.

Wingers aren't normally the type of players who you expect to track back and give 100% every game.
That's why Tats is such a great player...he's like 2 players, a winger and a full back, all in one.
And you've got to remember, he's living in a foreign country as well, and has had to learn the language from scratch.
Got to love this guy for his effort and skill, and the fact that he's super humble too, makes him such an endearing character.
The guy is immense - Frank, give him a new contract immediately.

Walking back to the coach after the game, all the Sunderland fans around me were raving about Sakamoto.

Woke up and can't help but think that's probably the best individual performance from a single player all season.

Sure Rudi has had a few that have come close, but for sheer dedication and quality, Saka on top.

Just over a million quid for him - mental

Remember when he signed and people were saying King had signed him without Robins knowledge to sell shirts in Japan and Robins was never going to play him as he was shit How do people come up with some of this stuff???

Yeah. I’ve been critical of him at times but last night, he was unplayable. They just couldn’t cope with him.

Because the world is full of unkind mean spirited people who have nothing nice to say about anything or anybody.

Sakamoto put in an incredible performance yesterday, he was just everywhere.
A lot of comments on social media from neutrals also saying how good he looked too.

Bloody love the guy

A few days have passed and I'm still thinking about that Sakamoto performance. I think it's the best I've ever seen him play, he was absolutely untouchable. I think he's my favourite ever Cov player.

You must be fairly young, he's a decent player ,not in the class of Tommie Hutchinson though. Yes I'm an old man.

His age is a major advantage for us. It’s unlikely many Premier League clubs would take a gamble on a 28-year-old (turning 29 in October) who hasn’t been tested at the top level. Hopefully, we’ll get the best out of him and enjoy seeing him at his peak here for years to come.

Saka has caught some flack this season, but he's always a starter for me. If Rapheal is not up to the standard we will need a RW this summer to compete with Saka (along with a LW)

Tuesday was his best, truly outstanding.

My only want from him next season, a little more output - goals and assists. His final ball sometimes is mixed at best.

Love the guy, and he was mostly brilliant. But I really hope he learns to take a throw in over the summer. Lost us a lot of momentum twice the other night

Clearly Tats' were foul throws but throw ins should be looked at closely imo.

Countless incidents of ball not going behind the head, feet off the ground, feet over the touchline and not being taken where the ball went out of play are going unpunished.

Further evidence of rules of the game being eroded.

Great mentality, big game player. Raises his performance when it really matters and leaves it all out there.

As a few have mentioned, if the rest of the squad has his mentality we'd go up in the autos.

It’s not off the cards imo. His energy could be really beneficial in central areas of the pitch where Sakamoto is increasingly joining the CMs for double teams in those areas. I’d like to see him at AM and even LM for various periods, his cameo at LWB away at Sunderland was top notch too with his assist to Rudoni.

I’ve thought this for a while, but Sakamoto could be our ‘Park Ji-Sung’. It’s not a lazy stereotype. Sakamoto’s output offensively needs to be better but defensively he’s tenacious for such a diminutive player. I think he could be a superb role player who can play anywhere he’s needed too (and well) without being the main character.

Particularly against the weaker teams that deploy low blocks, he is a player I think particularly struggles.

One of my favourite players. Even if he’s having a bad game he still works hard for the team and doesn’t hide

He’s played a few games centrally under Robins and has always looked pretty poor. I think the Kante comparisons were to do with his personality tbh, his talents are confined to specific roles out wide and it would be a shame to move him away from those.

That's some discussion that is. I've seen both and would have to give it to Hutch. Just my opinion though doesn't mean I'm right.

We really should get our scouts out to the J League. Seems to be a trait for Japanese players to give maximum effort. Recently there have have been some excellent players make the move to the UK. Tanaka should have got POTS for me. Kamada in the cup final didn't put a foot wrong

Fair do's.
I kinda grew up with Gibbo (using the same 21 bus as him many times too) and always rated him as the finest ball playing dynamo the club ever had (when sober).
However, as you say, Hutch was outstanding too.
We can see both sides, I'm sure

Yea Hutch was magic on the ball, but Gibbo was just something else.
He could completely control the game for 60 minutes, then the beer kicked in and he needed a rest.
But as a young boy watching him was special, he was so outrageous with his ability ahhhh. I miss them days, although going now with five of my grandsons is just as special.

Just wish he was a bit younger as he might have had a slightly higher ceiling then and have more resale value, quality performances like that don’t go unnoticed
