I know he’s not a winger but didn’t @Jimmy87 say Bassette was being told to work harder in training?
I've just watched the full post match press conference with Lampard yesterday. I think he has alluded to it in that (albeit a little cryptically). He mentioned that Tats is a brilliant trainer and that others could learn from him, he's a perfect example of even though you are not getting the minutes, it's how you conduct yourself in that situation that earns you appearances. It goes with what i'd be told about a couple of players.
The players that are being picked are doing exactly what they've been working on in training, to a standard which is acceptable.
I guess he is simply not going to start people or give them minutes until they show themselves in training, which is fair enough.

He also touched on the situation with Wilson, in that although he has been almost banging on his door in the end saying he was ready, training had not been showing that.

Yet idiotic fans on here still say they can't believe lampard didn't make the goalkeeper change earlier

Sakamoto is a very tricky winger, he often skips passed players by fine margins (through their legs or dinking it around them). Sometimes it won’t happen, the defender may just be able to judge it on the day and stop him playing his game. I think that’s where we will expand our squad next season, when a tricky winger isn’t working, bring one with pace on and vice versa.

To be fair, i was one of the ones who said i baffled. That was only because i'd seen Wilson myself and asked him if he was ready to go, he'd said yes. Looks like he was saying he was ready but not showing it at training. Fair enough.

Sounds like he's been ready longer than this week, though it doesn't make a lot of difference in the grand scheme of things.

Exactly that. I suppose a player thinking they are ready and actually showing it is what we don't see. I think the rising tensions over Collins had most of us screaming for the change. Have to trust their process and back whoever is out there.

I’m not convinced he has much of a future with us under Lampard.
I honestly don't know what their plans are for him. I'd just asked some questions about certain players in training as per a discussion i'd been having with someone about tactics, and he got on to the subject about how some could be conducting themselves a bit better in training etc. Attitude and application being the main concerns.

If you have someone of Lampard’s calibre telling you what you need to do to improve, and you don’t do it, you can’t have many complaints. There’s enough players now who have noticeably improved with the help of FL and his coaches to be clear that his advice is worth following.

I'd like to think that refers to fringe players rather than the main group who Lampard seems to think highly of though speaking negatively doesn't seem to be part of his modus operandi so you have to read between the lines a little as, for example, his comments about young wingers at the club when talking about Saka

That's it isn't it. I think i said not long ago that the thing that will set Rudi apart from others his age, is the way he trains and staying behind after training to understand his role better, working on the tactics, arriving in the box and shots etc. Lampard talked about this yesterday how he loves staying behind with him and working on it.
That's the type of application he is clearly looking for, players that are doing exactly what is asked of them, staying in position, following instruction etc etc, training well whether in the team or not.
They can have no complaints, you're right. It's all down to them and their own wanting to be better.

Makes it even stranger there were rumours of a bad attitude earlier on in the season

Yeah, it definitely wasn't aimed at any of the main group. I don't think there was any malice in it, like you say speaking negatively is not his approach. The way i was told when we were discussing it too, there wasn't any hint of unrest, just that there were murmurings that they could be applying themselves better and have a better attitude towards the situation. They can't just expect to be given minutes.

No idea if that was true or not, same with Kitching.
But young man with attitude has a think about things and decides to knuckle down isn't really front page news in any walk of life.

No idea where that came from about Kitching, think i said back at that time i did ask about him if that rumour was true, was told he'd actually been ill, and other things had kept him out of contention, but was a complete professional and got his head down.
