Possibly the most likeable player in the club’s history.

Most successful 'let's take a punt' signing we've made?

He's been unlucky not to have a hatful of assists this season, and is integral to how we play.

Dunno how you’re measuring ‘take a punt’ (players like Gyokeres and Huckerby cost similar and delivered more etc) but considering how quickly he adjusted to a new country (and language), and how much effort and entertainment he provides, he will always be a cult hero to me.

I get Moore got a hat trick, but Tats was by a country mile the best player on the pitch yesterday. Not the first time I've said that either.

Incredible work rate, got a goal and an assist and does his defensive work superbly. We're lucky to have him.

But he has had a hatful of assists. Great signing and such a down to earth guy

At one stage yesterday in the last few minutes he was trying to get back to cover KKH and he just couldn't run anymore! Bless him.

I mean ones where it wasn't necessarily a concerted attempt to strengthen a specific part of the team, but a 'he's got some qualities, it may work, it may not, let's go for it' type signing.

And also ones where if it doesn't work out, it's not the end of the world. A win-some-lose-some signing.

Huckerby probably was a signing like that, tbf, but I think they'd seen enough of Vik to know he'd be an asset, even if he surpassed expectation.

The scout went to view a different player entirely and came back saying forget him but we've got to take a closer look at this Japanese winger.

Such a technical player and that showed by the finish

I think we should look more into the Japanese/Korean leagues as there seems to be a lot of decent talent coming from there

Sakamoto is all round brilliant, from skill to work rate to likability. He also seems really humble and unflashy and reluctant to take the limelight he deserves. I remember that video of him running along Binley Road when he was getting fit after his back injury. Just so relatable

He, a bit like Simms, always gets pushed towards the crowd to take plaudits when they are the assister and if it's due to their work rate or final ball etc.

Good player but small which is not good in the championship, not bad either. Got great skill though but needs the confidence to use it? JDS the same, improved but still gets messed with over the top balls and chases back / out of position? small margins in the championship it is that type of league.

IF I have one complaint, he doesn't run at the full backs enough. Very rare to see him tackled, so sometimes wish he would drive at them more. Especially as he also has the quality to deliver and score himself (perfectly shown last night)

Think Tats jumped a bit early. When he did it, my first thought was 'please land safely'

Before their 3rd the defender was holding on to Tats shirt for a least 10 yds dragging him down. Why was a foul not given ?

Just like his other goals this season. Wonder what he needs to do to push for a Japan call up?

Japan always have technical players. Alot dotted about the top leagues now. Not sure who plays RW though

2 goals and 2 assists in the last 2 games.
The lad has stepped up when others have struggled.

They’ve got a bunch of really talented players there, Ritsu Doan from Eintracht Frankfurt (valued at £21m), Takefusa Kubo of Real Sociedad (£29m), Daizen Maeda from Celtic (£11m) has also played wide right on occasion.

Koki Saito from QPR did get a call up recently though and whilst I think Tatsu is a better player than him, Saito is only 24 and likely seen as a decent longer-term prospect.

Pity that, if he were younger and playing this way he’d probably have a call up this season.

Interesting

I always root for them in world cups

I remember endo in 1998 or 2002 I think it was. Love central midfielder to watch

100%. Japan play Ghana in a fortnight. Would be lovely to see a Tatsu/BTA h2h.

Who's that guy at blues again or did he get some of the action today?
It's just occurred to me that after last night's result may have energised some of the opposition?

It’s easy to be hyperbolic with a player like Sakamoto because he’s so obviously eye catching the way he plays so I try not to go too over the top but I think he might be the best player in the world.

Because that's ALLOWED in the new rules of the game that most of us don't know or weren't made aware of.

He’s always been technically great on the balls and has excellent awareness with a football brain - look at his positioning and anticipation, in both directions.

Unfairly criticised on here as his offensive stats weren’t good enough, but it’s a prime example of stats not being everything. I’d struggle to think of a better right sided combo that MVE/Sakamoto, again, in both directions.

I just wish he did take some of the limelight / we got a better song for him (ie his old one) he deserves to know how rated he is by us.
