What is going on? I genuinely believed he would save us at least 10 points this season but he doesn't look like saving anything just now

I know we've been here before and written him off after only a handful of games, but fuck me, he looks so out of his depth. Not alone, but should have stopped goals 2 and 3 tonight. Granted, they should have been cut out before being needing a save, but both very poor!

Fans overly inflated his ego, and in doing so overly inflated his price. And Brighton knew it. They had no intention at all to play him this season, they just wanted the best they could for him. To think, we blew 1/4 of our summer budget on an unknown quantity. And everyone was so adamant we'd easily make a profit on that £25m should we go down. As it stands, we'll be lucky if we lose.less than half that on resale.

A shot straight at you in the Championship is the same as a shot straight at you in the Premier League. Once the ball has left the boot it's irrelevant what league you're in.

I don't know if it's a mental thing or he feels the pressure or something but saves both of those last year

He’s a good keeper but looks not right mentally this season. Hes let in some right slow fluffy goals. Just needs some confidence and belief.

We have to back him. Has potential and we don’t have a queue of others in that position. Don’t want to go back to swapping keepers.
We have no choice but to back him. But cant believe we spunked £25m on him whilst keepers like Martinez were going for less than £10m. Granted, he was never gonna come here, and hes injured now, but its perspective. He was a signing for the fans, and as it stands, its backfiring spectacularly.

Same with Van Ewick and Grimes then?

Rushworth should have done better with the second, two hands on and not strong enough. But to write him off after last season so soon, feels premature.

Before you think of writing him off, take a look at what’s on the bench to replace him.

What I think will really help him is everyone gets on his back and keeps telling him he's shit and we shouldn't have signed him.

Our other option is Bentley FFS.
Has anyone told him he's shit? Or have people voiced an opinion on a forum designed for a forum?

Players have bad games. Would be mental to write him off.

We know he’s better than he’s shown so far this season, but it’s been a horrific start and exactly why I wanted us to sign a decent 2nd choice keeper. Instead we have the chuckle brothers.

Just looked at Rushworth’s stats and they are similar to when Brad Collins was throwing the ball in his own net every week.

I want him to come good but it feels like we wasted a large chunk of the budget on the cheapest position. Brighton the masters of extracting maximum value.

Looks good with the ball at his feet but he isn't saving anything at the moment

Martínez be on about 5-6 times the wage rushworth is on

See I think he’s far better as a shot stopper vs his ability on the ball. We’re just not seeing it at the moment.

Come on Rushy, get it together. Looking like he lacks basic fundamentals at the moment

He'll come good, his issue is shot stopping at the moment and we know he is actually good at that.

£7.5m fee and £200k a week for 12 months is still less than the £25m fee paid for Rushworth. And thats not taling Rushworths wages in to account. In fact, even without Rushworhs wages, is still £7m cheaper. Just saying!

Of course ignoring the fact that he wouldn’t sign for us and, even if so, wouldn’t sign a 12 month contract. It’s just nonsense.

I think the transfer fee has got to him , but we all know he’s good enough to bounce back especially with our support

What perspective? Huh?
Perspective that a WC winning, PL ready and much better keeper than Rushworth was sold for £7.5m. We paid triple for a keeper who had zero PL experience and was just a fantasy.

Actually good at that vs Championship level players. Not so good, it seems, vs PL level ones.

No doubts he will come good, however the points he’s costing could be expensive come the end of the season. He should have saved the last 2 tonight, undoubtedly. But he’s young and having a wobble. Hopefully he sorts it sooner rather than later.

The Hull keeper looks so good annoyingly. Ipswich’s giving Rusthworth a run for his money

He’s a keeper who has never played above the Championship who is now playing the Prem. It’s a massive step up in level, he might just not be good enough for it, or maybe he will be further down the line. It’s early to say but he’s had a bad start to the season. Struggling to really remember any quality saves he’s made so far.
