Running London? On my final training block before April.
Currently at 35km a week but will work that up.
Didnt get a place. doing ManchesterRunning London?
Same December was a pretty bad month for me.I was up to 45-50km a week but been pretty unwell since just after Xmas but managed 5km today.
Went out on Saturday when the snow was fresh and was quite nice, although for sure makes you work harder.Anyone else been out in the snow and ice this week ?
Yesterday was great fun in the snow, stuck a pair of fell shoes on, wrapped up well and did a couple of hours, very slow, as the snow meant you had to work really hard.
Today was a bit yukky, with all the slush and black ice after the rain last night.
Time goal? Or just focused on finishingDidnt get a place. doing Manchester

Ran Sunday about 10am in country lanes and was fine. Ran 5am Monday and it was treacherous! No snow but loads of ice, Ran on town pavements and then on the seawall where it wasn't so bad....I guess the salt from the sea took care of the iceAnyone else been out in the snow and ice this week ?

This will be something like my 11th or 12th, and i think I've said after each of the last 5 or 6 that it will be my last one....but I keep coming backI've got several training partners building up to Manchester, a couple of them looking for sub-3hrs.
I've been toying with stepping up the distance, but i don't think its quite the right time just yet.
44!Currently training towards running my first marathon in Adelaide in may.
44 degrees here yesterday.
I just want to finish within the 6 hours cut off, but man this heat is going to make the training hard.
Hoping that I can ride it out and it has some benefit to my body tbh.
I think the average high is about 20 for may. So hopefully will be lower at race time.44!
What will the temperature be in May? Mid 20s?
I get temperatures of 35-40c in the summer and aim to be out the door by 6am; anything after 9 is too hot. I’d suggest trying to do the same.I think the average high is about 20 for may. So hopefully will be lower at race time.
Fortunately the heatwaves seem to last a few days and then the temp can drop off by 15-20 degrees. Today is 37 but then I'm looking at 5 days of 22-27.
So I'm just going to have to be a bit flexible and keep an eye on the weather app.

He finished MdS? Very very impressiveI know a fella who`s into doing all these crazy ultra marathons, like the Winter Spine in the UK, which starts tomorrow.
He did the Marathon des Sables last year and he used to go on a treadmill in a sauna as part of his training plan ( seriously ! )
He`d put tons of ice chips into the water pack on his hydration vest when he was doing it and also put a " frozen " buff around his neck, as he reckoned it helped regulate body temp ( don`t know if this is true or a placebo ? ).
He`s bald, so he even when he was training in the sauna, he`d make sure his head was covered to simulate being in the desert.
It obviously worked for him, as despite being nearly sixty, he finished in the top 1/3 of finishers.
The MdS is indeed impressive, but its nowhere near as tough as doing the Winter Spine (or the summer Spine for that matter)

I knew a guy that attempted it, got medically evacuated on the first day due to heat exhaustion
Yes I think the one I knew focused too much on training for the terrain - he did a lot of running on beaches in this country. Don’t think they are quite as hot as the sands of the Sahara desert…Which is why the lad I knew trained in the Sauna !
Starts tomorrow.
You`ve got to be a certain type of person to do that race.
I knew a lad that tried and failed to do the full length Summer one, ending up hosy with serious heat stroke.

Gonna have to balance that with a new job I've just started in the city, so I'll see how it goes.I get temperatures of 35-40c in the summer and aim to be out the door by 6am; anything after 9 is too hot. I’d suggest trying to do the same.
It’s either that or going out around 21/22:00 but it’ll still be relatively warm compared to the morning. Unless you’re used to it, i definitely wouldn’t try running during the day in that weather.Gonna have to balance that with a new job I've just started in the city, so I'll see how it goes.
I agree it's probably the best way to get around it though.
An icy 13 miler round Cov this morning. Binley to town, canal path upto Gallagher then back to Binley via Bell Green and Wyken. 34 miles for the week
