Has anyone signed up to races (10k, half and/or full marathon) taking place over the next few months?

No but only because I keep forgetting to enter it.

Doing the 2 castles this weekend though. Hoping to beat my PB of 55minutes.

I wanted to do that but it sold out before I decided to enter! Good luck!

Hopefully Draycote isn’t too bad, although it’s due to rain this weekend!

There's plenty of places up for grabs on Facebook if you still wanted to get on the 2 castles. Just go onto their FB page

Just had a look - unbelievable! Probably too late now as I’ve sorted a few bits for Draycote but it’s certainly very annoying!

I’m making my track debut for Godiva on Sunday afternoon, in the 3000mtrs....

Never raced on the track before, and only ever raced such a short distance in a cross-country relay. Just hoping not to disgrace myself, and hopefully get myself just under 11mins.

Had the opportunity to do the 3000m steeplechase, but I don’t fancy breaking my leg going over the water-jump...

It’s at the Godiva Harriers track at the Warwick Uni. There’s track events on all afternoon from about midday... think I’m off at about ten past 4.

Next proper race (I.e on the fells) is the Snowdon Uphill on 28th June. From centre of Llanberis to the summit of Snowdon. I’ll be hoping for about 50 minutes.

Ran in the 3000mtrs in the midland league at Godiva today. Standard was pretty immense. I ran 10mins48 (which for all the parkrunners is bang on 18mins pace for 5km) and I could still only finish 8th out of 9, and was lapped by two people.

So doing the old morning parkrun today on half way around the second lap some lad goes cruising past which was bad enough at point then notice he was juggling 3 balls as he ran!

I did Cov Parkrun this morning too... a somewhat disappointing 18:50.... though I suppose as I’ve been training very hard, twice a day, most of this week, I couldn’t really expect to feel fresh...

Need to keep some perspective though... it’s all about being fresh on the start line in Llanberis next Friday...

8th finisher today (2nd over-35, was pipped on the line by the 1st over-35)

I've not specifically run a 5k before but my fastest (as part of a 3.6 mile circuit I do from home and round the Memorial Park) is 23:10, so 18:50 would be dreamland for me! Is a 5k at the Park pretty much 2 circuits of it?

It is indeed two circuits of the paths, starting and finishing near the toilet/cafe block. Although I don’t know the geography of the Mem Park too well so I couldn’t be exact...

Currently lying on a bed in a Llanberis b&b trying not to get too freaked out by the sight of Snowdon out of the window, which I’m imminently about to race to the top of, from the village centre.

It is unspeakably hot and sunny. I think it may well be a painful evening, but I’ll wear the Cov Godiva vest with pride.

Best of luck! I managed 5 miles in the heat yesterday, my times clearly mark me out as not being so well trained as yourself though! Should be doing 8 or 9 on sunday if its not scorching.

Well I managed 59:23 from Llanberis to the summit.

A slight disappointment as I had been hoping to hit 50mins. That proved to be totally unrealistic given the conditions (28deg at the start) and even a number of international standard runners were unable to go under 50.

I did put a few rivals to the sword, but by the same token, a few guys I wanted to be challenging were well ahead of me...

That’s the beauty of Fell Running, there’s so much different running, everybody has their own strengths and weaknesses. Every race is different.... I’ve got a 7 mile race on Holyhead Mountain this afternoon, which will not take too much longer than last nights 4.5 mile race, such is the difference in routes.

Finished 11th in today’s Holyhead Mountain Race... 7miles over North and South Stack, then up and down Holyhead Mountain..... another hot one, although marginally less oppressive than last night on Snowdon....

Spent most of the race battling for 8th/9th position.... but last night’s race caught up with me on the final climb, and instead of pushing for 8th, ended up dropping a couple of places and finishing 11th...

It’s strange that all the while during today’s race, I didn’t think about what I’d done last night.... all I could think was “bollocks I can’t lose those two behind me”...... it wasn’t until I was well into the drive home that I thought that actually I could do no more today.... my legs were in bits at the start, never mind the finish...

Raced a track mile at Godiva tonight, in the Warwickshire Open meeting.

Absolute pain from the off. You obviously need to temper your efforts in order to not blow up, but you can’t afford to dawdle or you’ll get blown away.

After a fast first lap, I took a bit off on the 2nd lap, then started my ‘kick’ with about 600 metres to go. Final lap was incredibly painful but no time to worry about that, it can wait until the end.... fairly collapsed over the finish line in 5mins22...... which for the Parkrunners is somewhere around 16:30-16:40 pace.... i certainly couldn’t keep that up for 3km, never mind 5km....

Anyone doing the Leamington half tomorrow?

I nipped out for a quiet pint three hours ago, probably not ideal prep.

My latest escapade was on the Long Mynd Hills last weekend.... the 5 mile Callow race.

A measure of the difficulty is that 5 miles took me 1hr18 and I was far nearer the leaders than the back-markers..... (even the winner couldn’t break the hour mark).

In the entire 5 miles there was perhaps 0.75mile which was even remotely flat, and that was mostly rough and uneven.... the vast majority of the race was incredibly steep climbing or descending... and it was also blisteringly hot too!

Was slightly disappointed to only finish 15th, but it was my 4th hard race in 9 days so I was hardly feeling fresh at the start.... a couple of weeks before the next one, so a bit of time to recover...

I did the Northbrooke 10k in Coventry on Sunday morning. It was through the country lanes around Corley Moor/Hawkes End etc, so was quite a hilly route, but a nice one.

I’m looking for a race this Sunday (5k, 10k, half marathon), but can’t find one local enough!

Northbrook is known amongst our club as one of the toughest local 10km races (I expect I’d find it too flat to suit my strengths though, having only ever done two road 10kms).

Just a note for anyone that Bedworth Parkrun is not on this weekend...

Just started running...well, walking fast and occasionally breaking into a jog. I try and do a pre work 3 mile walk at least three times a week at a brisk pace. I figure if I keep that up and occasionally break into a run i'll be able to run for longer each time...?

I'm 6ft 1 and just shy of 18 stone. I wouldn't say I'm fat...over weight sure but I've got a 44 inch chest so I'm built big naturally. Some people have told me I'm too big to run...?!

I did the Draycote 10k Sunday. Didn't realise it was Northbrook or I'd have done that.

Really enjoyed Draycote, which is great considering I didn't like 2 Castles this year. Managed to get myself a 50second PB through pacing myself well. As it's every month I'll definitely do it again.

As Bedworth PR isn't on this weekend I'm heading down to Evesham, which I believe is quite flat but on grass so it'll be a whole new challenge for me. I only ever run on tarmac and the small bit of gravel at Bedworth trail section.

Purple Bin your method sounds quite similar to the “couch-to-5km” programmes/apps that you can find online. Not had any experience of them myself but I believe you aim to run slightly further each time/week, interspersed with brisk walking.

You’re certainly not too big to run.... at my biggest I was 6ft2 and just over 16 stone and I still played football multiple times a week and could easily manage 90mins as a winger on a Saturday/Sunday. I was fit but overweight.

With the very best of respect, at your size/weight, you would find it incredibly hard to run at an elite level (most elite runners barely tip 10 stone, but I assume that is not the aim anyway.

I’m 6ft2 and about 12.5 stone now, and I’d class myself as big for a runner.... I can run to a “good” club level, and to a higher level on the fells where strength can often trump outright speed, but if I wanted to reach greater heights I’d probably have to lose a fair bit more body weight.... (I’m only 1-2kg above my “fighting weight” from my competitive kickboxing so I’m not prepared to lose much more). Already doing around 50 miles a week and loads of strength work and I just can’t invest more time without retiring at the age of 37...!

I'm sorry to break this to you mate but I'm 6 foot 1. Got a 44 inch chest and weigh 15 and half stone and I'm a fat c**t.

Everyone has a different frame...

I’m probably one of the heaviest in my group at Godiva, but I conversely also possibly have one of the lowest body fat ratios.... just a question of body composition.

But generally, if you’ve got less weight to carry, you’ll be more efficient...
