The guy on the radio stated that the size of the banner is irrelevant and that at every ground in the country a fire certificate is required for a banner of any size.

Wrong!

This states its only classed as a banner if it is over 150cm x 150cm, if it's under that it is not classed as a banner and therefore does not need a certificate.

The telegraph stand flag was nowhere near that size.

Ricoh arena facilities director said if you want to bring a flag/banner in you must approach them in advance of the fixture and produce a fire safety certificate which Derby done. They then look at the message on the banner and as long as it is not abusive etc. they approve it to be allowed in to the stadium.

He stated that it's the same at every ground, therefore using Middlesboro's guidelines should be the same as ours.

Middlesboro states that it is classed as a banner when over 150cm x 150cm.

So whatever way you look at it he has lied.

As it's a fire safety issue, yes

The smart thing to do would have been body paint or tshirts. One letter per fan, nothing could have been done. But I get the feeling those with the banner wanted the confrontation

There wasn't a banner in block 15 today, it sparked when a fan asked a police man were his number was and the police said shut up and sit down, he didn't and went to eject him.
That sparked the 'riot'.

What caused the policeman to go into the crowd in the first place? I thought I saw someone get flung down the stairs by the police, but apart from that it was too far to make out.
