Rotherham Chairman - Coventry Bid Was A Joke (4 Viewers)

Tony Stewart - the Rotherham Chairman rejected Sheff Weds latest offer for Le Fondre but also added
"Coventry came in with a joke bid a fortnight or so ago but I am sure they weren’t serious.

“I got the impression it was more a case of them wanting to show their supporters that they were trying to do something."

More evidence of the lies and smoke and mirrors Mr Dulieu is constantly spewing - please get out of OUR club now.

Think he has got that pretty much spot on.

yes but i dont think its his place to say some of it. Think we already knew it. He is using any leverage he can to keep keep clubs away from ALF

good spot ashbyjan :)

I'm not surprised by this, and I doubt that many City fans are as deception and mis-representation seems to be the order of the day for our board. What worries me most is that the club's reputation in the wider football community is undermined, as we just look like a bunch of idiots. How can it make any business sense to ruin your own reputation?

Cannot take credit for this spot OSB - credit to Tisza on GMK. Just passing it on to a wider audience.

I can understand the frustration of their chairman and he has every right to point this out in the media.

Rotherham have an asset who is banging in the goals and who can easily be unsettled which serves them no good at all. :blue:The thought of a sizeable team (and yes I do still consider us that despite our current position and attendances) coming in for you and the prospect to play regularly in our arena, on that surface and to prove yourself at a higher level with presumably an increased salary package is something that would turn most heads.
:blue:
It's very unfair of us to do that not only to our fans, but to their club, supporters and the player himself if we have no real intention of signing him. I'm speculating, but "joke offer" I would imagine we offered to swap him for Platt, ROD or possibly both and with no cash at all.

I appreciate him saying it. He has hit the nail on the head - he clearly looks at Ken Deliar as a complete joker, who on the surface tries to do things to appease us fans, but underneath is doing evrything he can to assest strip our club and claim all the money they can before they just scarper.

Of course its his place to say it, like you say he is trying to keep his player, or at worst get a good deal for him. unlike us who rollover the minute somebody tickles our belly.

In fairness Scott, despite being a bit of a joke currently on or off the field, I can't think of a single player who has left the club by way of a sale for less than what I would consider market bvalue. Not tying Westy down to a contract with 18 months left is their only real error in terms of what I can see.

This just shows us in the usual positive light we have come to expect under SISU, and Doolally.

Tis rather scathing of us and he shouldn't have done it, but if this is true, I am glad he did!

It does make us look like a bit of a joke for sure and this is exactly what a lot of people on here have suspected. We have our noses pressed against the window of a jewellers, staring at all the wares on display and may well go in and try many of the rings and necklaces on, but in reality we have no intention of buying any of them. We just hope people are walking past who we know and they see us there so they think we are showing a genuine interest.

Why don't you think he should have done it? Apart from us upsetting/unsettluing his player, he has a duty to serve Rotherham football club and nobody else.

Yes, but there is usually an unwritten law with in football that you don't discuss other clubs offers and interests like this and certainly not in such a derogatory manner.

He could have been a lot more subtle for sure if he felt he had to say something. i would hope our chairman/manager would never come out with stuff like this. Though it has happened before.

All you get is a war of words.

He could have been a lot more subtle, and we again look a bit of a laughing stock.

I agree with Rob that he has to protect his player/asset, but is he also cynically trying to up the bidding for the player in the knowledge that he will probably be leaving in this or the next transfer window?

Our chairman has come out and breached agreements with GH and then "let slip" about somebody at the meeting which was meant to be private.

I said at the time I could sit and bid on ferraris on eBay to make people think I want to buy a ferrari and it is pretty much what KD was doing!

ALF would be a great boost for us at this moment in time but more of a Fiat than a Ferrari I reckon :)

But surely their chairman is going to want every bid seem like a joke and that they're not selling? All of this transfer/takeover talk is a case of he said one thing, they said another and us the supporters are stuck in the middle not knowing who to believe

But it seems that everybody is against our board and the board say that everybody else is lying...

I'd have thought an o'donovan swap would have been fairly appealing as he scored a decent amount in league 1, league 2 he could probably get near 20 goals i reckon ( this sentence kind of makes le fondre seem less appealing now actually)

Since the departure of King, the SISU v Le Fondre competition for the "Hot topic" continues.

Dont think any player than has never actaully played for the club has been talked about as much !

But Stewart, owner of a lighting company, told The Star: “I looked at it and laughed. It wasn’t serious. It wasn’t enough. As a businessman, I don’t want anybody trying to take me to the cleaners; £100,000 is less than we paid Rochdale for the guy.
and this was about sheffield wednesday's offer ------ sounds a jolly fellow
