At the moment he needs to regroup and get his form back. We have been flogging him to death and he has lost his sparkle

He gets targeted by the opposition, too. His ankles must be constantly bruised.

Saka hasn't had a goal contribution since November 22. If we had any sort of depth he would've been benched weeks ago.

He didn’t sign until 2023 m8

Is he really any better than what weve already got?

If not hes just a bench warmer offering a bit of cover.

Cover that we havnt had up to now, which is good, but I think people are putting way too much expectation on a 20 year old kid.

Hope to see a couple more arrivals soon, with a bit of experience.

Joe Edwards managed him at Millwall so he has first hand knowledge if he's better than what we've got.

They rotate?

He has looked fucking knackered the last month or so and will appreciate a break im sure

So where does BTA fit in, he could well be back in the squad for the Leicester game.

Its great to have cover available again, but I think rotation will be the order of the day.

Well he ahsnt played for about 2 months, he can't be brought straight back into the first team and should be brought of the bench

BTA got injured on 25th Nov, so about 5 weeks ago.

How many minutes has Esse had this season?

In fact, when did Esse last make any starting 11?

So he's not played for 5 weeks and may be in the squad in another 2, thats about 2 months. You'd really put a player whos been out that long just straight back into the starting line up?

Been getting a handful of minutes for Palace, which would suggest he’s fit enough - albeit probably not for a full 90 minutes - but that should come relatively quickly, given his age etc.

Either way, I trust Joe to manage him up to full speed etc. I imagine he will be phased in with a few 70th minute sub appearances.

The squad with the most quality depth will come out on top. We cant compete if sentiment gets in the way of progression, you have to create competition within the group and get in players at the top end of the pitch that will impact a game, do that and you are hard to stop.

Esse i hope is the 1st of 4 signings that will make us stronger as a squad. If this one gets done its a good start but more needed every player we have need pushed and helped.

Esse hasn't started any game since last season!!!

There's zero logic in what your saying.
The fact is both would probably start on the bench when available.

We wouldn't be signing him on loan if he'd been regularly starting games.

Not really when you look at who isnt agreeing

But ultimately, let's just see how much game time he gets. (Presumimg Palace havnt added a clause to the loan)

Lets just hope he hasn't been looking at the fans forums for his potential new move to see all the negative comments about him before he is even officially unveiled. He is an England U21 and Lee Carsley is a big fan too

I am also a bit skeptical about his stats to date, but he is young and has a lot of promise. He is talked about very highly so it could be a smart signing. The other thing to consider is that Sakamoto, in my opinion, has looked poor for a couple of months. Having some competition to push him is a good thing regardless.

The stats tell the story of Sakamoto's form - though some of it is down again to our slow build up and lack of bravery in getting the ball forward. He's having less of the ball.

https://fbref.com/en/players/5e67ea3a/matchlogs/2025-2026/Tatsuhiro-Sakamoto-Match-Logs

He's dribbled the ball around a defender once in eight games.

Anyone not blowing smoke up his arse is negative now???
You dont want to read the Brum match thread mate, you'd be suicidal.

Im sure Carsley rates a lot of players, so what?
Bellamy rates Kai Andrews and gave him a full cap, but that doesn't mean hes ready for a regular championship start.

But it's a bit wild that to counter someone's point that he hasn't had a goal contribution since late November you point to a goal in October?

It’s only anecdotal based on what I’ve watched but it’s felt like we’ve barely moved the ball down the right for the past few home games. Seems like the midfield and defence just look for EMC every time.

To be fair unlike Esse there isn't a PL club willing to splash 12m quid on Andrews.
