Just spoke to my AFC supporting mate. He is going to the Everton game on Sunday with his Palace supporting son. I now have to work out if I am taking my youngest lad or going by myself. I know it may sound a bit sad but I have never been to a game by myself before. Usually go to Coventry and get coach with lads. But in work Sunday morning 5am so can't have weekend away. Expensive game as turned down 2 days OT to go. Don't want it ruining by a 4 year old now

Also have the little matter of letting the wife know I am going. Is her birthday today and she will want to go out next Saturday as I have worked this weekend. Isn't it a shame

You can do it on your own Astute! I've done it before. Most games when can't sit where you want I'm on my own unless there's a spare seat by friends I go with! Won't stand out that your on your own since we're all there for the same reason

Sounds good. Should still have your number so will let you know where and when I am. Looks like a big place. Getting train for this one so fancy a pub run and have a laugh at the natives expense

Always go with others but end up elsewhere. Like to have banter with those from the other side. And meet people I haven't seen for years. Also good to put faces to names on here. At least you all know what I look like from when I took my youngest to a game. But less of the Ant and Dec lookalike

Does anyone know if we have Dave Mapp back yet? Not seen him in ages.

Nice one. Has saved a few of us that I have seen. Saved me once. Not afraid to tell the other coppers how to do their job. Sound bloke as well.

Depends which one you get. When I travel down to Cov to go to an away game I normally go on an unofficial coach. They seem to be less regimental. Normally cheaper as well.

Yes we had trouble outside Bradford when their supporters jumped a lad on our coach as he was waiting to get on, as we all piled off to stop it their police came towards us heavy handed if he hadn't of stepped in there may have been a riot.

Never the less their supporters were arrested and taken away.

In the middle of a major debate with the wife. Told her I am going to the game next Saturday. She said I couldn't go as she told me she was going out on my next Saturday off WEEKS ago.

Not all bad news. It may be her birthday but the debate will continue. When we have finished I will get the silent treatment and she won't want my body when we go to bed

For any ale drinkers in town pre game, The Baum is the place to head for. Usually nominated for Camra pub of the year in recent years. Regal Moon is a decent Wetherspoons also.

Just plan a surprise trip for her... that happens to be to the game?

Have pulled that sort of thing on her a few times in the past. The last time I did was a couple of seasons ago when I rearranged our holiday plans and left a couple of days early. We stayed about 10 miles outside Yeovil and I went to the Yeovil game

The debate has stopped. Getting the silent treatment already. I do have a plan though.

Yeah let's pop along to Rochdale for a day out. Probably the most depressing place on earth next to Blackburn.

I went on holiday to Keighley as a boy, it'd have to go some to beat there...

I had to go every year when I was under 10 to Carlisle on a bus that took hours to get there . Used to have a day trip to Silloth (?) Christ knows what that looks like now it looked bloody awful then.

How many do you think we'll take, 1500-2000?

OK, day not what I planned. Taking my little boy with me. Will be his second game. The first one was against Verona when there was only a few of us. Don't like taking 4 year old's to away games but if I don't I can't go. It means a pub crawl won't be happening for me. Will be at the bar next to the ground. Hope he don't get too drunk to get in

Get her to bring a mate along and drop them off at the Trafford Centre (just off the M60) - takes a good 3 hours to get round, and more if they stop for a bite to eat. You can then nip up to Rochdale (20 mins up the M60/62), and Bobs yer flippin uncle - simples

Oh yes - forgot that. Definitely "misplace" the plastic

Then when you pick her up tell her how you miraculously found it underneath the spare tyre in the boot

And you so wanted her to get those new clothes

Last time I dumped my wife in the Trafford centre it cost me a fortune. When I got back to her she was overloaded with bags. We both went back in to eat and then she did it again
