McGoldrick to miss penultimate game of loan spell and Robins speaks on hopes for Bailey
In-form striker David McGoldrick will miss the penultimate game of his loan spell with the Sky Blues after picking up a fifth yellow card in Saturday's 3-1 away win over Stevenage at the Lamex.

McGoldrick netted City's third with a superb 25-yard lob over Boro 'keeper Steve Arnold to wrap up the points but went into the referee's book after taking off his shirt in celebration.

The 25-year-old will now miss Saturday's away clash with MK Dons at stadium:mk ahead of the final game of his loan spell at home to Shrewsbury Town on New Year's Day.

"Getting a fifth booking for taking his shirt off was a pain in the neck but he'll be disappointed with that as well," said City boss Mark Robins.

Robins also spoke about his desire to try and do a deal which would see midfielder James Bailey return to the club.

The 24-year-old's 93-day emergency loan spell ended with City's 3-1 win over Stevenage so he has returned to parent club Derby County.

Robins said though that he would like to try and do a deal which would see him return to the Sky Blues.

"I'd like to sign James permanently but if not that then on loan again. But we will see what can be done and what we can do in January."

Coventry City manager Mark Robins has said it is up to David McGoldrick whether he signs for the Sky Blues or tries his luck elsewhere.
The 1,086 City supporters at Stevenage yesterday made it very clear that they want McGoldrick to stay but Mark Robins told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole: “There are a lot of factors involved.
“It’s not just us, it’s where players want to play their football and what packages they might be offered by clubs in a higher division.

“We’ll fight as hard as we can, but there’s a point where we might have to accept defeat and David might already have made a decision.
“That’s up to David. If the worst comes to the worst we’ll shake his hand and wish him the best because he has been fantastic for us.
“We’re having a look at Leon Clarke in terms of doing something in the January window – he’s been a bit nomadic but he’s a good striker in his own right.
“If I can get both of them, magnificent – we’d be a real force to be reckoned with then.”

Well, it seems that we at least tried to get him. If he wants to leave then that's fair enough, not much we can do about that. His loan spell has been mutually beneficial.

Remember the Chris Marsden Saga,we had him on loan,but didn't pull out all the stops to get him full time,in the end he joined Southampton and made the England Squad.So if we really want Goldie we should do all we can and more to keep him.

I agree. He may very well decide to stay (if possible) until the end of the season. He's on fire here; he's hit on the right combination, etc That may not happen anywhere else. Let's hope he thinks with his football brain rather than with his wallet. However, whatever he decides I'll still be thankful for his goals and he should be thankful to Coventry City for getting his career back on track. No one wanted him three months ago.

If he doesn't stay, I want him to do shit and get relegated with his champ team, whilst (hopefully) we get promoted. I will be thankful, but I'd like to him to regret leaving CCFC. Sour grapes?

If he was smart he would stay. Lets be honest, i cant see anyone in our position (play-off contention) in the champ that would want him. So if he goes to a champ club its going to be a mid table team or a relegation fight. I wouldnt see the point leaving us for another league 1 team. What i would say is sit down and have a chat and maybe say extend his loan at least, with the agreement that if we go up we get 1st refusal on him for permanent. Other than money why would he want to leave somewhere where he is top scorer for the division and on for a promotion+cup double and still in the fa cup (albeit not for much longer)

he should stay with us till the end of the season then see what happens if promoted we could offer him a bigger contract, it would be great if he just signed a short term contract and then see what happens at the end of the season!!

That's completely unnecessary we should only want him to succeed where ever he goes he has done a fantastic job an is a mile above league 1. If he decide's to leave that's his choice we're not exactly in good shape he might come here then we go bust.

I see your point, but that's football, we want him to be the best he can be at CCFC, but another team, I hope he does shit. I don't want him him to do well if he goes, but I'll always have him in high regard because of his time here.

Not really that much of a difference their both players to good for league 1 and don't want to sign for us (looks like this with goldie) they both wanted to be at bigger clubs.

Keogh didn't ask to leave. We sold him as he would have been able to go for free at the end of this season.

he went wolves 1st.

from what ive heard theres 5 championship clubs after him that we cant compete with in terms of wages, heads been turned by his agent cant see him staying now.

ahh well it was good while it lasted and i wish him all the best.

He had a move lined up to go to Bristol but listened to his agent who was just greedy.

If a player does well for us and don't take the piss I applaud them in the future. If a player takes the piss they might get abuse off me.....Fat Freddie for instance.

It works both ways. Some ex players take the piss when scoring. Some don't even celebrate.

Players who were average for us and thought they were better than they are like Clingan, Cranie and Best I would take satisfaction by seeing us surpass them. Players who were very good for us and deserved there moves like Keogh, Westwood, Dann, Fox, Turner and Gunnarson I would wish them all luck in the future

It works both ways. Some ex players take the piss when scoring. Some don't even celebrate.

Agreed, but I never want players who leave CCFC to do well, unless they've scored a move to an top 5-6 club in the prem or a chance of making the England squad, then I'll want them to good, but one of our players are that good (hopefully Bigi is).
