That's all it was?

It's akin to a player receiving grief and doing that "hands cupped to ears" thing after scoring. You don't normally get opposing players piling on them though...What muppets.

That's how it looked to me. It was one Southhampton player in particular I think if the footage gets reviewed. I have to say, they did have some good, skilful players, but the first half they just did nothing... I imagine most teams would give themselves a chance against 10-man Coventry; but in the first half they seemed content to try and play for a 0-0 draw.

There's no hopefully about it, of course Bristol were going to beat us!🤣

It's Ashton Gate and we always write off all 12 points against yourselves and Bristol before a ball has been kicked...What form we're in...Doesn't matter. What form you guys or Bristol are in...Doesn't matter. The fact it's Cov or Bristol...Is the only thing that matters!

To reinforce it, here's the match stats from today... We may have battered them for the overwhelming majority of the game....But The Hoodoo trumps all!

Strangely enough, I feel quite positive after today. That's 2 of the guaranteed 4 cursed games out of the way now and if other sides think that they can overcome Hellball by setting up like Bristol City then we'll take them to the cleaners, yourselves excepted of course, simply because they're not Bristol City🤣

Another reason for us to want to go up really as it's 6 points more we'll have a chance of fighting for. Have seen enough of them to know that without the power of the Hoodoo, they'll be too limited to overcome enough sides to get in the playoffs, never mind win them.

I have to confess to being worried about McGree going off injured though, but that's my only worry from today at least.

Well done with holding Saints back with 10 men though, it's showing another side to your game and one that's handy to have in the home straight...👍
What was all the handbags about at the end btw?
28 shots, 3 on target 🤣

Similar to when you played us, except you had considerably less shots of course. Is “Hellball” really that different so far or are the players just responding well to a new face?

Saints fans were winding Frank up so he gave it back to em & they or the players didn't like it

Battered them for the overwhelming majority of the game yet only had 3 shots on target against their 8.

It isn't how much you have the ball but what you do with it. They are very good on the counter attack. They had a shot on target for every 3 minutes of possession they had and that's including time lost to the ball being out of play.

Hellball is far more focused on attack than defence under Edwards. It leaves us slightly weaker at the back, but a lot more likely to score a decent amount of goals? The formation is also vastly different, packing the advanced centre with bodies for more control further up as we always had the midfield to control a game anyway, it was the link to the strikers that was lacking.

The stats and results against yourselves and Brizzle would have been the same no matter if we brought in Pep to manage us and had Arsenal's front line playing ,because it's yourselves and Briatol City, that's the whole point. Most Boro fans write those four games off at the start of a season now because...well, thats just the way it is.

To compare, here's the Hellball stats when not playing a Hoodoo game... Away at a side in 4th, level on points with Ipswich, and who are generally considered superior to Bristol City this year... With the majority of those attacking stats just from the 1st half.

I'm not particularly worried about facing 21 teams in this league, there will be the odd result that goes against us outside yourselves and Bristol, but other than that we can be a match for any side when the old hocus pocus doesn't affect us.

My only slight concern is Ipswich going on an absolutely stupendous run, which they are capable of. But I'd fancy your lot to turn them over before New Years at home like we did, which should help put a stop to that nonsense.

Having seen the game we lost to Ipswich, I think we are a decent match for them and can get a result. Whether we do or not is another question!

Hoodoos are there to be broken, unless they’re at Deepdale which is genuinely invincible.

I remember saying to you a while ago that between us we’ll fend off the parachute teams and having watched some of your games since the new chap came in, believe that’s what will happen.

Preston are notoriously a tough resilient nut to crack at home tbf, especially this season. But they could well be your version of our "Bristol City"...🤔

The law of averages state that they must end at some point, but it's always very, very unlikely, no matter what the strength of the relevant teams.

Tbf Middlesbrough fans are a pretty superstitious bunch. We've good reason to be though; aside from us strangely being the only side in the league with 13 letters in our name, we also had a curse placed on us by gypsies around the turn of the 20th Century, when we moved them from land that we were clearing to build Ayresome Park, amounting to the fact that we'd never win anything of note while playing there....True to form we'll be celebrating our 150 years at the end of this season and have spent the entirety of our time in the league in the top 2 divisions, barring 2 freak seasons in the 3rd tier...Yet have only won 1 major honour in that time, the league cup in 2004, less than a decade after we moved to the Riverside. For a side with that relative strength for such a period that is almost unheard of.

Wembley is cursed too. We've been there five times...and lost every single time. Even when we won the league cup it was moved to Cardiff as Wembley was getting redeveloped.

Our best ever seasons, we finished 3rd and 4th in the league and on both occasions were on the rise and installed as favourites to win the league title the following year? Those season were 1913/14 and 1938/39...which may ring a bell?😝

It's a foolish Boro fan that doesn't recognise the power of the hoodoo, superstition and curses...😬
Even if we try to play such a thing down beforehand in an attempt to dismiss it, it's overwhelmingly likely to come to no avail.

I've got mixed feelings to be honest. Given the situation, it's a good point. Can't help thinking it would've been a comfortable 3 points with 11 on the pitch.
Yeah, but when Dasilva got sent off and they scored quite quickly, I thought we were going to get steamrollered.

Who knows what would have happened 11 v 11.

I have no axe to grind against any of the big 3 in the North East really, all were close to my grandad's heart (though Sunderland and Newcastle were slightly higher up the list for him) and he rotated between them every week from his home in Durham in the 40s and 50s. The top flight needs to revert back to how it was in the 90s for no reason other than my millennial nostalgia, none of this Bournemouth and Brentford shite.

Yes I realise I have gone on a big tangent from what we were talking about!

I'll win Miss World before we win there*.

We've never won a league game there. Ever.

This year was particularly annoying because the team thought they'd won the game after going 1-0 up against ten. It's the only time I've been genuinely cross at a performance this season. Well, ok, Hull in the first game. That was annoying.

I don't believe in hoodoos, but I do believe in psychology, and this year was a perfect opportunity to make the Preston issue go away; it's very frustrating that we didn't.

*I won't.

Stopped in Kidlington on the way back but on way home now. I think wel ose that in any other year. Could be a huge point at the end of the season. Their fans were arseholes too.
