Interesting that we only rank as 3rd rivals for Leicester and no one else. No one has us as 1st or 2nd rivals.

Probably depends on who you speak to. I'm sure some Sunderland older fellas would have us 2nd or 3rd.

I never got the feeling there was an issue with the Bluenoses. We all used to sing SOTV together! I guess when we were in the top division we didn't play them that often, but played the Vile all the time.....

Don't agree

For me the Villa has to be number one .For a variety of reasons just can't stand the club. Actually don't have too much of a problem with Leicester of Blues in fact quite pleased the former are doing so well.
Given recent events I would certainly put Sheffield Thugnited as very close to my least favourite club.

It was always Leicester when I started going... no mention of Villa.

You're confusing rivalry with death wish list I think.

Well, here's the apparent change of rivalry list. This is since 2003.

Find it very hard to believe that Man U were more of a rival to Arsenal than Spurs.

Do understand the Oldham one though. ;)

Always hated Wolves myself, the bastards made me cry in 1973 when they knocked us out of the cup.

Judging by posts on this forum, for some it will be CCC, Wasps and CET

When I was growing up it was always Wolves too.

Didn't help then that later on in my life, my boss was an obnoxious little toe-rag, who had the nickname the Poison Dwarf and he was a Wolves fan too.

I had to listen to 10 years of how Wolves were the best team in the world in the 1950's.

So, still really dislike Wolves to this day.

For me it is Villa Leicester closely followed by whoever we are playing next.

Speaking as a long-dstance fan, I've never quite understood why Leicester and us aren't massive rivals. Derby/Forest are proper rivals and don't particularly care about Leicester. None of the West Midlands clubs could care less about us.

We're roughly similar sized clubs, have both been in the top 2 divisions for almost the entirety of the last half a century so will have played eachother a lot.

Why is it that we're not bigger rivals than we are?

Strange that Fleetwoods biggest rival isn't Blackpool
Think simply down to the fact that they probably never played each other since the year dot.

Fleetwood had been a non-league team for all their existence haven't they?

Checking quickly on them they have folded a couple of times at least and only got into the Football League 3 years ago.

Simply case of not playing each other and therefore no rivalry.

Seems they're era and league driven as well as geographical.
I see us as Switzerland, a tad in the neutral territory.

I agree, not sure why some Cov fans seem neutral regarding Leicester?

For me it's:-
1 Leicester
2 villa
3 wolves, wba, Birmingham

But over time and certain circumstances these rivalries change for different generations of Cov fans. Kids won't have seen us play villa. Leicester are now a glamorous alternative.

All together now.....
"We all hate Wolves and Wolves and Wolves,
Wolves and Wolves and Wolves,
Wolves and Wolves and Wolves,
We all f***hate Wolves..........and Leicester!"

That's what we sang in the West End in the 70's, if I recall correctly!

It's all about your age. I am 54 and following City since I was ten, hence the Villa are our greatest rivals followed by wolves. For most of the years we were in the Premiership and Division 1 and Leicester were struggling.
Brings back memories of saying " if the Titanic had been Sky blue, it wouldn't have gone down" and " shit on the Villa"

Wolves were the big rivals late 60s through the 70s with some mass vicious battles home and away including running across the pitch at Molyneux into the Wolves end. Petered out in the 80s mainly due to them dropping through the divisions and not meeting for seasons

Will always be Vile for me, was there the day they relegated us and my next door neighbour is a Vile fan. Was never allowed to say the word "V***a" when staying in a "V***a" on holiday as a kid.. forever and always SOTV!!

Started going up in about '83, and it was always anti-Leicester songs in the West End ...

Save all your bottles for me, Save all your bottles for me
Bye-bye Leicester, bye-bye
Don't cry Leicester, don't cry
We'll be thinking of you when you're in Division Two
SO
SAVE
ALL
YOUR
Bottles for me, etc etc!!

My favourite footy song ever (other than the Sky Blue Song, obvs!)

For me, its Villa, only because they were the only real consistent fixture when I started following the City in the mid 70s. All the rest spent a while yo-yoing. WBA, Wolves, Blues, Leicester etc.

Derby and Forest have each other (enhanced by the Clough connection no doubt) - Villa have Blues, naturally.

Villa really don't give a toss about us anymore. Same as Derby and Forest think of Leicester ... like the ugly 3rd sprog, tugging at the big kid's trousers for attention.

The geography does make sense though lee ... us and Leicester, well we're kind of made for each other in the rivalry stakes - once we both admit we have to settle for 2nd best!

Doesn't really matter what one team's supporters think. Unless both sets of supporters agree there's a top rivalry, you can't really call it a proper rivalry. And out of 92 leagues, the supporters can only agree on 24 top rivalries.

And two of those are Accrington - Morecombe and Reading - Aldershot. Who would have guessed???

Full list:
Accrington - Morecambe
Aldershot - Reading
Arsenal - Tottenham
Villa - Birmingham
Blackburn - Burnley
Preston - Blackpool
Wigan - Bolton
Brighton - Palace
Bristol City - Rovers
Cardiff - Swansea
Colchester - Southend
Derby - Forest
Exeter - Plymouth
Ipswich - Norwich
Liverpool - Man U
Millwall - West Ham
Port Vale - Stoke
Newcastle - Sunderland
Northampton -Peterborough
Oxford - Swindon
Portsmouth - Southampton
Sheffield Utd - Wednesday
WBA - Wolves
