Ricoh to pull plug ?????? (4 Viewers)

I don't believe you. If you were posting on the other side you'd be taken to the cleaners for such bullshit

Has the contract got a get out clause?
Sorry I responded as if that question was aimed at me when it could have been rhetorical. I can take a picture of the camera I bought if you like when I get home and post it tomorrow. The battery life is just crap on it, it uses a proprietary connector not mini or micro USB and that bloody sony only memory card format. I really wish I'd gone for something else now.

Here is what PWKH said back in March:

Grendel

I am sorry that I seem to have made you angry.

As I do not know what other Club's arrangements are I cannot pass judgement. I can probably safely leave that to you.

I can assure you that the sponsorships that have been renewed will remain in place, and that includes Ricoh. I am afraid it is true that it is not all about football. Without CCFC the place will surely be emptier and sadder and in need of sport. If it happens it will be an incredibly sad day.

I haven't a clue what you are on about: "a similar organisation that previously had an interest in a football club". If this some kind of clever hint at the Higgs Charity: it will just be another one of your guesses designed to throw some mud in the hope that it sticks.

That's it. I have answered what I can. I will let you get back to your baseless comments as I shut my machine down.

The only way Ricoh might consider pulling out is if SISU came back to play there. They would have no issue with ACL but being linked with scum like SISU would be different again.

What mind numbing garbage. So you want to go to Northampton then?

As grendel say's he would love it to be true,

enough said about this sad man

And yet I forgot about your pretence to the finer education you portray to have, good to see YOU agreed some sponsorship for a club

Coventry united or Cov Spinx or was it the village idiot team you used to play for

Why would any Coventry fan care what happens to ACL?

well grendel, we all await your deliberations, & further incisive comments,
further, we are aware of your myopic standpoint,
please elaborate upon which sponsorship you were involved with

You idiot, ACL are the only organisation that have any power to stop SISU. It's what they do and how they play the legal card that will ultimately dictate if we have a football club playing in this City.

They have no power. Given all the guff on here about having to be wary about shareholders taking action they will have to take the CVA.

It's the hero worshipping of this pathetic little quango that makes a section of our supporters look increasingly absurd.

I posted months ago that Ricoh discussed the possibility of CCFC leaving (when the idea was first mooted last season), and their conclusion at that point was simply that they would 'reevaluate their position'.

Any publicity/exposure they are getting at the moment will soon die away if the club move. Once we get into October/November, the national media will get tired of the story and references to 'The Ricoh' (in relation to football) will stop - and all those mentions in print media, online, on radio (local and national) and on local and national TV will come to an end, and you have to ask yourself then of what value is the naming rights deal to Ricoh (because ultimately it is about name awareness, nothing more nothing less - that's what advertising is). Of course, there is some value in sponsoring a venue that hosts two concerts a year and a few corporate events, and the highly visible location is an added bonus - but it would not be worth anything like amount of money they paid, because they paid to sponsor a football stadium first and foremost.

Oh, and comparisons with the LG and other indoor arenas are pointless. Look at the schedule for the LG, it stages twice as many major events in a year than CCFC have home fixtures. The Ricoh stages 2 (major) concerts a year - and that number will not increase because there simply aren't the acts out there doing summer stadium tours. More smaller indoor concerts? Perhaps - but that's in a venue sponsored by Jaguar so of little value to Ricoh really.

Ricoh might kick up a fuss then, but if I were ACL though, I'd probably be more worried about Compass at this stage. It's a nailed-on certainty that they will go legal.

Didn't PWKH say the other day that ACL own 77% of the joint company that provides food and beverage etc at The Ricoh, with Compass owning the other 23%? So if they "went legal", wouldn't they'd be going legal over 23% of whatever percentage of that part of the Ricoh business came from the football club.

People have gone to court for less I suppose and I don't know the figures, but would the legal fees be worth it?

Erm... if all of the F & B contracts now reside in a company 77% owned by ACL, then it's a nailed-on certainty that it won't go legal. It would be like Otium taking SISU to court, never going to happen.

As for RICOH pulling out, who knows. Would they really have a clause in the naming contract relating to stadium use, i.e. "there must be a professional club playing football at the stadium"? It's possible, but at the time the naming rights were sold is it a possiblity anyone considered? Maybe when it comes to renewal time they will reconsider, but by that point SISU would likely have taken an aspiring Championship team to utter failure in L1/L2 - maybe RICOH would have wanted out anyway!

I think this is (another) one to file under idle speculation, although it's interesting that there are some here who seem desperate for ACL to fail. I find that odd, personally.

Well it would be good, Ricoh say we are pulling out unless the club plays at the stadium. The major sponsor putting on pressure to get the club to return.

What wouldn't be good about that?

I wasn't aware that had been a transfer of ownership to that extent, and so my statement on the Compass front was more speculative than anything and was based on the amount of money Compass have invested (which is substantial). 23% of a lot is still a lot, but I take your point.

As far as Ricoh are concerned, it is an industry I know and I spoke to somebody from the board of Ricoh UK at an event earlier in the year. He was a bit guarded to be honest, which is understandable, but he did let on that they were monitoring it and would consider their options in the eventuality that the club relocated, but the impression I got was that they weren't exactly jumping through hoops at the prospect. In terms of what they are able to do about it (contractually), on that I have no idea.

On your final point, it is somewhat tiresome that we are still at the point where any attempt to discuss the actions of ACL or the potential consequences for ACL is suggestive of an eagerness for ACL to 'fail'. I have no affinity to ACL, no more than I do the company that make my car or the shop that sells me fruit and veg. When I die, I won't ask for my ashes to be scattered outside my local Tesco, nor for that matter a building managed by Arena Coventry Ltd. I will however ask that they are scattered somewhere in and around the home of Coventry City FC.

That said, ACL manage a facility that is an important asset for the city, and for that reason I do not want them to fail, and I am certainly not 'desperate' for them to fail. That's absurd.

I do however believe that the club is more important to them than either they or their 'supporters' let on - and this is frustrating. They seem untouchable and any suggestion that we should put them under the microscope a little more is met with derision and not a little anger. Clearly, the bulk of our attention should be on SISU and the FL (and I will march on Saturday with everybody else) - but ultimately, if CCFC are to return to the Ricoh, certain concessions are going to have to be made. There will have to be talks, and before we even get to that point, surely ACL must face reality and come to terms with the fact that SISU/Otium are the preferred bidders and that they cannot hide forever behind "we'll only talk to the administrator". ACL will have to talk to SISU - so why not just get on with it, and why are we not putting pressure on them to do just that?

So I was just showing you a picture as promised of the camera that I ended up with after looking at a Ricoh one in Jacobs (sadly no longer there) on Oxford Street. And no I wouldn't reccomend it for the reasons I stated in the other post.

Never hear of Ricoh until they sponsored the stadium, so wouldn't have considered them otherwise.

Entirely fair response this - I take your point.

ACL should be monitored, and should not sit above criticism, however I do think it needs to be based on facts where possible. For what it's worth I did read your post as a "screw ACL, they've shafted us, I hope they die" missive, and that probably wasn't what you were trying to say. I apologise, though I think there are some that do think that way.

Also, imho, I think there is some evidence out there that suggests ACL could survive without the club, and my personal opinion is that the development potential of the site without the club means that there will always be an option to profit that way should all else fail. But the fact is that ACL don't want the club to go, and neither do we. Again, personally speaking, I don't want them to give it over to SISU either. I think the course they are holding is about the right one at the moment, but I appreciate we probably differ on this.

Such is life, the brutal fact is probably that we can't greatly influence the decisions of either company - it may only be the courts that can do that!
