so i have spoken to a relatively big business figure in coventry lately ,he seems to believe that RICOH are on the verge of pulling the plug in regards to their name being on the stadium .
IF this happens can things really get any worse for ACL , 1 mill a year deal ,thats alot of money im sure other businesses and associates will follow suit aswell.
This does really show though the football club DOES indeed have a massive influence on ACL profits ,by all accounts RICOH are fed up of all the negativity surrounding the name and have had enough.
CAN ACL SURVIVE

Why would they want to do that, if good press or bad press the Ricoh is in the media most days in one form or another. They have massive concerts, shows, conferences, other sports events, seen from M6, just does not make sense to pull out.

I'm sure there would be clauses in the event of something like the football club pulling out, "representation in the media" suchlike.

So that's a definite unsubstantiated rumour is it?

I heard that they were going to be holding the World YO-YO Championships there, which means that it's goinhg to be taken apart brick by brick and moved along the M6 and rebuilt in Birmingham near the NEC.

Would be good news if true.

Even if there is any truth in this (which I doubt), there seems to be no shortage of corporates willing to sponsor arenas that don't have football clubs attached.

This year alone, Scottish Hydro are sponsoring new arena in Glasgow (£1.5m p.a.) and First Direct sponsoring a new arena in Leeds.

no surprise here, I posted a thread about this a few weeks ago. Personally I wouldn't want to be associated with a club in turmoil regardless of how many times the organisation was mentioned.

Sorry to say but if the unlikely happened and they did pull the plug ACL would be finished. Although to do it would still cost them a percentage of the contract !

If it was me negotiating the contract on the Ricoh side I would have made sure there was a clause in place that had a sliding scale if CCFC left. However I still believe that having your company logo/name visible on the M6 to all the drivers is probably worth a fair bit.

Ricoh are here until 2015 and I seem to remember the £10million for naming rights was paid up front not annually

I love this sort of thread. It really identifies the CCFC wheat from the ACL chaff.

PWKH will know if such a clause exists so we await his input.

I went to buy a digital camera a few years ago and I did specifically ask to see a Ricoh one because the name had obviously stuck in my brain. Sadly when the girl got the one I could afford from the stock room she opened the box and discovered it was buggered so I got a Sony instead.

So if this rumour turns out to be true then they'll need a new sponsor, any suggestions? Maybe Milver Metals would like it, nice local business.

Getting a bit nervous that your beloved ACL may be under threat? Clearly I have to spell out the metaphor. Threads like this are interesting. They show where posters loyalties lie. If the sponsor did pull out real fans will automatically weigh up if this means a likely return to the Ricoh. ACL supporters will be frantically telling posters it's lies, damn lies or other sponsors are waiting in the wings.

Have you been involved in stadium sponsorship before out of interest? I have. I agreed some sponsorship for a club now in League one for some billboards and yes the exit clause existed.

As grendel say's he would love it to be true,

enough said about this sad man

And yet I forgot about your pretence to the finer education you portray to have, good to see YOU agreed some sponsorship for a club

Coventry united or Cov Spinx or was it the village idiot team you used to play for

No idea if they've got other sponsors in the wings or not I suggested Milver because I've stayed at the Hotel and had a room that had windows that opened onto the carp park by the shop. I was woken up in the morning by a clanking noise still coming from outside cos I'd left the window open. I went and investigated what the hell it was as I thought it was just an unofficial car park and burger selling spot. Used to go passed there quite a bit as the taxis won't stop on the dual carriageway and usually insist on taking you right to the front entrance to get another 20-40p off ya. Always claim it was what ACL said they had to do but I doubt it.

How the hell should I know and the other side of what, the M6? I did used to work in the media but never on the sponsorship side or sales or anything like, I used to be a researcher and general dogsbody.

A compnay like Ricoh would have a get out clause, not one but many. If i was Ricoh i would pull out, its a myth that all publicity is good publicity. Ask Adidas who have just pulled out sponsoring Gay.
