Ricoh must feel "more ours" (3 Viewers)

Coventry City manager Mark Robins wants his players to begin to enjoy their football ahead of the game against MK Dons.

The Sky Blues trained at the Ricoh today in preparation for tomorrow’s game as Robins looks to increase the amount of involvement the players have at the ground.

In the coming weeks, Robins says he will take a tour around the Arena and look to see whether the players can spend more time at their home ground.

The City boss said: "I think it is important to get the players down at the ground more. With the circumstances around it, we want to spend as much time here as we possibly can.

"Even if it isn't on the pitch itself all the time, you know, just being around the place and getting to know the ground a bit better.

"There are things over a period of time I want to change. We want to try and make it more ours, more Coventry City Football Club.

"There are a lot of good things here. I am going to have a tour of stadium in the coming weeks and have a good look to see if there is anything we can do to change certain things."

Robins will take charge of his fourth Coventry City match when the Sky Blues welcome MK Dons tomorrow night.

With the side looking to build on their first win of the season at Oldham, Robins commented the entire squad have been very open to his new ideas and training methods.

He added: "They have all been very receptive to my way of training and ideas. There haven’t been any negative responses and I wouldn't expect there to be either.

"If there are any negative responses, they won't be here for long. They have got to work and work hard for the club. We have to be serious about our jobs but also have fun doing it as well.

"I think they need to have a smile on their face, which they do at the moment and that is the consequence of getting three points at the weekend. I think the players have now properly introduced themselves to each other since the win.

"There heads are high and you can see a notable change in the squad. Hopefully we can carry that through to the next game and like I say, we have two home games now which is a great opportunity for us to play against two good sides." :p:p

Great idea. I do wonder how players could warm to a ground, even though the Ricoh is a bit lifeless I think it could make a change.

All new managers have a honeymoon period. I remember Boothroyd saying good things & making a decent start, but it all fell to bits eventually. One day the manager will be right for the club, hopefully that day is here.

We definitely need to be more comfortable and play more freely at the Ricoh, hopefully this will go towards to that

I know its early days but so far everythings he has said has been spot on. Although admittedly my first choice was Wise, I was surprised that people weren't more excited when he was appointed. After the summer and start to the season we've had, I'm not expecting us to suddenly go charging up the table (although it would be nice), but I do hope he's given a decent amount of time to turn our fortunes around. I think a lot of our fans look at Norwich and Leicester and think we'll go straight back up. In reality, this league is much tougher and without meaning to sound too pessimistic, I can't really see us having the mental or physical strength to get promotion this season. I do think that our club is crying out for stability, both on and off the pitch, and I think Robins, Waggott and Fisher will deliver if they're given time. Please don't get me wrong, I can't stand SISU and what they've done to this club, but given the choice of Robins, Waggott and Fisher or Thorn, Onye and Delieue, I know who I would choose.

Encouraging stuff from Robins. I like the bit about players happier after a win and enjoying the training methods.....and if they don't they won't be here long!
Is it a fine balancing act he is playing between discipline and getting them to play for him at the same time? Hope he gets it right.
So far can't disagree with him though and expecting a better all round performance Tuesday night and another 3 points. Do that and it will cement the change and we will continue to the top 6.

I have been mightily impressed with him so far. He certainly talks the talk.

The ultimate judgement however will be on how he does on the pitch and in results. Really hope he's the man to turn round our fortunes.

Well Carlisle wasn't great but we started to play a nicer style of football at Arsenal then won on Saturday. To me that's a steady improvement. Next job is to combine nice football with a win. After reading his comments I'm feeling quietly confident. Would also help if the Dons fancied getting another player sent off...

I've been impressed with Robins, how we play, formation, saying the right things, but most all, I think he has a long-term plan for this club and I hope we can challenge for playoffs (mimimum) or (although pushing it a bit) automatic promotion, which imo can be done, we've got the team to do it!

The fans have a big part to play in making the players warm to the Ricoh. If I were a player, I'd hate to play there. And I bet in the players circles they all mix in, the Ricoh and it's fans must be notorious.

Booing a 0-0 half time scoreline. Booing a wayward pass. Jeering young players for not being Messi. It's a fooking horrible atmosphere to play in.

Unfortunately, you're right, but, there's a reason it's like that :\

This is great. It shows that Mark Robins wants to make a success out of these players. I havent seen a manager do something like this since i started supporting City when i was 5. The lads are walking onto a pitch tha feels like its not permanent. Now that we're close to buying half the stadium, it will start to feel like our new home. Highfield Road will always be in our hearts but our future is The Ricoh, so we need to feel that its the Home of The Sky Blues. Mark Robins is setting the wheels in motion. Can't wait for tonight. We can get our season going AND beat our local rivals. Play Up Sky Blues! :p

Am really impressed with Robins so far. he is not sugar coating things and is trying to get tjhe players to realise that they have to perform and get involved and inveloped in the idea of Coventry City. The ethos needs to change to begin to make changes. There is a good core of a squad here and now would love to be in a situation where we are looking at a little momentum being build. two home games 6 points would be unbelivable, 4 points would be great and three points would be acceptable. 2 points or 1 or no points will be a disaster.

It makes a change having a manager who can string a few words together, has ideas and sets out his stall because he knows what he wants.
Unfortunately we have all been here before........but it's a promising start.:claping hands::claping hands:

I know it is just talk. I know we have had so many false dawns before. But he has done everything right so far.

Third match in seven days tonight. A win would be a really good result .
