Transfer Rumour Return of Gus (15 Viewers)

His attitude just doesn’t fit with this squad, someone going out on the piss and eating like shit at his age probably isn’t going to change even with Lampard telling him to sort it out.

His chance to break through as a top flight player has been and gone.
I'm guessing it will be ran past Lampard, If he's happy then it should be ok

I really would hope that we would still be after another midfielder

I agree, but sounds like we're holding all the cards here with both him and his desperate club. Maybe we think the moments he can provide are worth a small outlay.
I mean let’s suppose we could quickly get his fitness and professionalism on a par with the others, where are we ranking him in our midfield?

Yeah I rate most of our players just don’t think Torp is better than Hamer?

Why do some people take any discussion of improving our team as some grave insult against the players we have? It makes this place very dull.

Edit: I might have been a bit harsh here. For the record I like a lot of our squad I just think we need more quality especially technically in the PL. Torp I feel when he’s on it is great but isn’t as consistent as Hamer was on set pieces particularly and doesn’t offer the same vision or bite in midfield. But I’d see them both as sharing that role of a box to box midfielder. With Grimes and Onyeka doing the same for the DM.
That's fine, but you said Hamer was 'way better'. There's an argument to say he is better, but it's close, so I provided stats for context. I'd also add in that at 26 Torp is 4 years younger and has more potential still in him to improve further. I don't know either character, so I'm guessing, but the way Torp looks after himself I'd say is more likely to please Lampard, he appears the model professional and I'd also guess that he's less likely to throw his toys out of the pram if not selected and I can't see Hamer starting ahead of those like Grimes, Onyeka or Rudi.

At the right price and if his attitude is right, then I'm ok with signing him, but if it was a straight choice for a squad place between the two, then I'd choose the one who has been part of a promotion winning squad over one who won nothing with us and who didn't tell the manager he was leaving on the bus home from Wembley because he thought he could do better than us before realising the grass isn't always greener.

Can i ask where this "eating like shit" opinion has come from?

This is partly why , they think they are massive

mental mindset , why would he go to a small club like them 😉

Loooool this has to be a joke?

Literally!

Some lads are just stocky but he still gets around a pitch and it actually, like McGinn, gives him some edge.
Gary Medel was another one

#38 is still available for him...

On the fat argument, I've seen him at close quarters and he's far from it. Certainly in better shape than anyone on here or elsewhere having a pop at him, but for balance I've seen him the night before a game eating fried chicken and drinking Kopparberg. He's not fat, but he could look after himself better and that's more likely to cost him longevity in his career than right now.

Im coming round to the idea.

AS LONG as we get another physical workhorse.

Yerinkyi please...

Look at it another way , adding hamer into the squad is a win win

Prem experience too and we know at his best will offer us something as cover , a starter or in several positions .
If we were to go down he just bulks up our already great midfield options to go again

Haing listened to your opinion on him and watching videos , i think hed be an unreal signing , the sort we should make as priority

There's been loads of circumstantial evidence regarding his lifestyle and its was mentioned in an interview by a team mate though I can't remember who.
In the podcast Viveash did he refused to comment on it though he was quick to dismiss other rumours (for example Vik and Godden not getting on).

If it wasn't true about Hamer why wouldn't he have dismissed that rather than go no comment?

And on top of all that you can clearly see hes not in top shape when watching him play.

Hes another though that gets us back up next season.

There's a bit of snobbery on here that hes not good enough for us anymore. Hes pretty much destroyed us every time we've played against him. Hes good enough and the team will get him fit enough.
This is a sensible take on it.

I would not spend actual money on him but if he came back in exchange for us forgiving any money owed it seems to me a no brainer.

I know a lot of us want to spend big to stay up but we need a balance
We can't afford to have an all-stars team this season and he would give us back up at a bargain price

Where is the evidence they actually owe any money?

Replying to both your posts here.

Yerinkyi looks superb

and agree on Hamer, its essnetially chicken feed to resign him, and we will likely make profit on the swap from eccles to him and arguably upgade the position

Jake Gyllenhaal Love GIF

I mean he's obviously not "fat" but it did cost us (and Sheff Utd if I remember) when he just had to come off after 70 minutes.

Years ago you could get away with it more but in the Premier League now players are proper athletes.

If this comes off, then you have to say it's a brilliant bit of work by the club over several years:

- Identify Hamer overseas (using a data-driven approach)
- Pick him up for just £1.5m
- 3 great seasons with Cov
- Sell on for a massive profit
- Use funds to help build a new promotion-challenging squad
- Secure promotion back to the Prem
- Buy him back on a cut price deal

If that's the model then I like it.
