They need their own fixtures and if you have very good under 18's they need under 23 fixtures to develop If you want to attract good youngsters the right framework has to be there to attract them. We are still spring cleaning the under investment of SISU. It won't all happen overnight.
Don't need U23 fixtures. Just a reserve team made up of youngsters, out of favour first teamers and those coming back from injury.

Would learn a lot more from than that than spending the next 3-5 years playing against the same group of people they've played against since they were in the academy.

There are no reserve leagues though

Wait, what? Lusala? The Lusala that a number of posters on here were calling on Robins to play and moaned when he didn't play him? That Lusala? 🤪

Just goes to show how short on numbers we were, because Robins clearly didn't rate Lusala or Stretton, but kept putting them on the bench, obviously just to make up the numbers.

Yeah, the one when we had already won the game against Maidstone.

Not against Man Utd at Wembley.

Context is key when trying to have digs......

Frankly if by 20 you aren’t on loan at a league club it breaking through to get some minutes why are you even here?
You say this but some players develop later than others. You just have to look at 2 of our most recent “top stars” to come out of the academy.. James Maddison was 18 when he broke through, Callum Wilson on the other hand was still on loan at Tamworth at 20 and didn’t break through into our team suddenly until he was thrown in at 21 and we all know how that ended up.

Well the context is that clearly Robins doesn't think they are at all good enough and has let them go.

Let's see where they end up and then see if you still think they should have come on in that game.

Then we start talking to other teams about whether they want one. If teams would prefer a reserve team at the expense of sacking off the U21/23, then it would happen.

OK then, 21. Point is we’ve got too many players just around to make up the numbers who won’t ever play league football in their career.

Yes that's the sad truth.
The special ones can't play on their own, they need a team to play in.
Which means that thousands of youngsters live in false hope of fulfilling their dreams when their coaches probably already know its never going to happen.

Most teams care about their academy so wouldn't bother.
Which is why the U18's exist. That is the academy.

Once that's over with then you should be testing yourself against more experienced pro's as well.
