What Bobby Moore lacked in pace, he more than made up for it with his timing of tackles, and was supremely confident on the ball.
Just about to say the same thing. At one stage he was being hailed as the new Bobby Moore. I think it was Richards who really did him for pace for their first goal. The real BM had little pace too but presumably made up for this in ways which our Bobby couldn't.
On the day we lost 6-0 at Everton my uncle took me to Nuneaton v Oxford in the cup, itWe were picked off by the scousers that night. It was an great game but a truly unpleasant after match experience, coach window put in, clothes stolen etc....if my memory serves me right we had played Everton in a top of the table clash at goodison just before and lost 6-0.

I think that was pre Avramovitch and even though Chelsea had got to the Cup Final the gate was about 8k. Now they are one of the "big" Europeon clubs but only on the back of money. Just shows there is still hope for us if someone can come in and get things right.Leeds and Wolves beat that one.

Arsenal were on telly in the Cup Winners Cup final that night.I think that was pre Avramovitch and even though Chelsea had got to the Cup Final the gate was about 8k. Now they are one of the "big" Europeon clubs but only on the back of money. Just shows there is still hope for us if someone can come in and get things right.
I was an Alvis apprentice too, 1973 to 1977. Then worked in Plant Layout for two years. Probably a bit older than you as I think I had finished my apprenticeship by the time of this game. When were you an apprentice there?I remember the Liverpool away game, i recall a shoe bring thrown around in our end that night not sure why.
On way back to coaches it was terrible, they kept trying to make us say something to work out if we were City or not, we we on outside of a large car park and they we inside throwing things at us. Was about 18 at the time an Apprentice at the Alivis, did not get home till 4 am.
Hated Liverpool fans ever since. Then they got us banned from Europe and never got to see us play as cup winners.

We go up twice a year Grand National in April and Beatles week in August, always haveI like the Liverpool people. When ever I have been there I have found them to be friendly and funny. For one game up there I was in a beaten up old mini. I stopped at some traffic lights when a young lad knocked on then opened the drivers door and asked if I was going to the game. When I said I was, he asked if he and his mates could have a lift to the ground. They couldn't have been nicer. Showed me where to park, escorted me to the away end. A good punchline to this would be that they mugged me and that the car was up on bricks when I got back to it. However that wasn't what happened. (This was the season after the League Cup match and as it was early season we were top of the league and as it was us, we lost one nil). Most people I think are good. In Liverpool as in Coventry you will find some scumbags. As I say I have always really enjoyed being in Liverpool in listening too and joining in their conversations.

I was a year out - just torn up my Wembley ticket in penance.Monners - a "real fan" would have known we didn't play West Ham at Upton Park in 92, however we did play them in their relegation season in 91-2
I went to the Chelsea game, we were in the main stand as what was to become the Matthew Harding stand was being built, 8000 plus game a couple of weeks before the cup final. Chelsea-Giants of the game!
I can remember a game in 73 at Easter against Sheffield United where took 2 Red House coaches(about 75 fans) to Bramhall Lane and lost 3-1 at the 3 sided ground just weeks after going out to Wolves in earlier mentioned quarter final.
Peter Ndlovu got 1 and Steve Morgan the other. It was 1 of only 2 games I missed that season as I had tonsilitis and the game at Newcastle was called off when we were on our way up & when it was replayed they didn't allow away fans because of the redevelopment of St James ParkLeeds and Wolves beat that one.
