  • Relegation Playoffs would keep the season going to the last game for those involved.

  • It would give a fair opportunity to any team (like us) that finds some true form at the end of the season to get some reward for a late charge, and those on a poor run to have to fight for every point.

  • It would be good for the fans.

  • It would be good for revenue.
Format: In the case of Div 1....Bottom two are automatically relegated. For the four teams above them, Team A play team C home and away. Team B play team D home and away. Away goals count and the two losers are relegated. There is no final so no need to trouble Wembley

Just a thought.....and if you look at the table today and the fixtures remaining for those clubs, it could get interesting.

There were playoffs between team's trying to get promoted and the winner had a home & away playoff against the team in the last relegation place, there was no final at Wembley

I've never been a fan of the "play-offs". The FA just copied the system from the Yanks, just to make more money for the TV companies and themselves. If a team is in 3rd place and is, say 5 or so points clear of the rest below them, then they are there by MERIT and RESULTS. Why should a team that is in 4th, 5th or 6th place, play a couple of games in these so-called play-offs, and win a couple of jammy games to get promoted? I know it's never going to change, but I will never like the idea. If you finish in 4th place - TOUGH! You didn't make it!

Only for promotion though, relegation play offs weren't considered I don't think.
I cant remember the years or the format but Charlton escaped the hangman's noose at least twice when finishing in the relegation play off position in the top tier. One of the two leg ties was against Leeds as I recall and the Leeds fans reacted as you normally expected them to when they got beaten...

Deciding who goes down based on 46 league games is more than fair enough already really. Nobody can claim to be hard done by
My thoughts on the promotion play-offs!

If you want a wacky promotion/relegation read up on the Argentinian leagues. Something like the team with the lowest 3 year average of points goes down.

Fair point...but let's imagine we still had something to play for this season...then how would you be feeling?
But if the bottom 2 go down automatically, we'd be going down anyway. We're 8 points behind 22nd with 9 to play anyway.

I think it's a good idea. The more teams with something to gain/lose in the final weeks of the season, the better. Promotion playoffs makes teams currently about 10th still have a glimmer of hope. Relagation playoffs would keep the bottom 10 or so on their toes.

Dreadful idea both promotion or relegation. The season is home and away v all other teams not that plus an extra few games. It favours teams that finish the season well rather than those who perform better over the entire season. Just a way of getting more money from the fans and tv

I just think its best to accept we got relegated !
Unfortunately correct. Its not as if were going to end up 4th from bottom by conceeding one more goal than the team above us. We've been by far the worst team and are where we deserve to be. No point whining we have to bounce back somehow. That starts with day one in div four and anybody, manager player or chairman who isnt committed 100% should bugger off now.

I don't even like the promotion play-offs. I think it was a stupid idea. Relegation play-offs is equally stupid.
The team positions should be decided over the entire season of normal games with no extra nonsense.
