I do think more could be sold like Lati, Wright, Sheaf and BTA but don’t think they’ll be transfer listed.

I'd keep Allen 100%. He's not going to start but he's proved this season that he's a decent squad player.

He's had a couple of good games and a one or two excellent games. But on the whole he's rather average and just not good enough on the ball.

Sell Sheaf and Allen, sign one first choice starter and a young backup/rotation

Grimes - New Signing - Rudoni - as starters.
Eccles - Torp - New Signing - as squad players.

But we don't want to have to replace half the squad. Allen is a good option to keep...we know he's a decent person, keeps himself in shape, is a decent player and seemingly liked around the squad.

No brainer to keep him.

He had some good games for us but I can’t see him renewing his contract with us. He’ll want more regular first team football.

It’s an opportunity to bank the saved wages and potentially pursue a CM. For the right price, I’d be open to selling Sheaf or Eccles.

We’ve got Sheaf, Grimes, Eccles and Torp all contract for next season with Kai Andrews having a promising loan spell at Motherwell… it might be an area

The big areas we need to improve on is the defence and our options out wide. We need 4 first wingers, 4 first team fullbacks. Our defensive mistakes were far too costly this season and you think with how we’re playing under Lampard, you need at least one ‘athletic’ CB.

I just can’t see why Eccles would stay as a squad player when he was playing every week under Robins.

If someone is willing to pay a few million for him, you’d have to take the money for FFP. It means that, in theory, it’s pure profit to put in the transfer kitty (to my limited understanding).

Looking at the way teams can break through our high line, we have 2 options to address this imo:
1) change tactics
2) add athletic personnel

Lampard will more likely opt for option number 2. The squad is v much built in Robins’ image and it’ll start to change significantly.

To be fair I like Allen, I just thought the club will be looking at more attacking 8s to cover torp and Rudoni.

DM - Grimes, Eccles
CM - New starter, Rudoni, Torp , Andrews

Personally would love Aasgard here.

Why just for FFP when we're absolutely nowhere near in breach of the threshold?

First and foremost, Eccles isn’t a first choice player as far as we’ve seen under Lampard. So if someone was willing to pay a few million for a rotation player, it makes sense for both parties.

Just because FFP isn’t a consideration right now, it could be in the next couple of years if we keep on spending to push towards returning to the Prem. It’s best to be cautious in this regard so we have extra manoeuvrability in the seasons to come.

In terms of transfer fees alone, we’re already one of the most expensive squads in the league. Our wage bill and agent fees are relatively low to offset that.

He was really very good when he came on
First pass sent wright through
Second pass the same and Rudoni completely free on the other side of the pitch for an easy ball
He also won the ball on numerous occasions and won a few free kicks
Shame he went off as the time lost was added and Sunderland used it to score from the resulting corner

It depends on what Lampard has in mind for the team. At the minute, Rudoni and Grimes are locked in for the 3 CM/AM positions. So you have Sheaf, Eccles and Torp fighting for one spot. Assuming Allen leaves at the end of the contract, that headcount will need to be replaced too and dependent on whether or not Andrews is deemed good enough to play a role immediately next season.

To be honest, with how much space we leave between the lines in midfield and defence, I can see us going for something totally different in midfield. Lampard has compared Sakamoto to Kante and the way Sakamoto helps the CMs defend makes me think Lampard will opt for a ‘Kante-esque’ midfielder.

With the tools we’ve got, Torp at his best probably starts for me. Defensively, he’s surprisingly solid. A creative midfielder and he’s a credible goal threat. That all said, he’s not particularly athletic and can be inconsistent.

Eccles was playing under Lampard until he got a calf(??) injury . I think Lampard sees him as a more athletic partner for Grimes when the need arises .
I can't see him leaving for a lesser club just to get more games

We can’t keep everyone. For me Allen Sheaf and Eccles are much of a muchness and we don’t need all three. Sell whoever there is interest in and get someone more dynamic and physical.

I'd happily keep Allen as he's very handy from the bench, but I feel like we'd have renewed his contract by now if he was staying. Hopefully that's all actually going on at the moment now we know which division we're in next year.

In all fairness to Allen at 30 years old does he really want to be resigned to the bench for another year or would he rather try to potentially look to move to a club where he's guaranteed to start.

If he gets to John Terry it up in a PO final win he’d probably be OK.

Also made a brilliant goal saving block

Absolutely. Had we gone up it might have been a different story but Allen is definitely worth keeping in the Champ.

If the club is thinking about continuous improvement, does keeping Allen improve anything? My answer is no because we need different profiles as Lampard builds the squad in his image.

As Shmeee put it, Sheaf, Eccles and Allen are all more or less similar players. We need to think about selling one of Eccles/Sheaf (maybe even both) to bring in better players.

He’s been a fantastic pro and filled in fantastically at times, perhaps it’s time for him to start a new adventure. It feels harsh but does Allen himself want to remain 4-5th choice? Possibly even 6th choice if Andrews is fancied to play a role next season. Unlikely.

not sure why anyone would release allen? great squad player.
Rafa defo a project, could easily come good at some point
the hound, surely with age will progress, hes still only 20?
Amazes me why people are so desperate to get rid of young players before they've really had chance. Both would've been signed for development. Definitely a player in Bassette - maybe needs to bulk up a bit like Gyökeres did. Loans maybe wouldn't hurt either but can't see we'd be ditching them after a year.
