Reflecting on SISU (4 Viewers)

Having now got the stadium it feels like any toxic legacy of SISU has finally been washed away.

The feel-good factor of Saturday has really made me wonder what on earth was going through their heads in the time they owned the club? I was obviously never a fan of them as owners and was emotional/angry during their reign in charge, but I also consider myself someone who believes in nuance and trying to understand another’s point of view.

I still struggle to really understand what their end goal was or what they were trying to achieve. I guess ultimately it was simply that they bought a club and realised that they did not have the proper money to invest too far down the line.

I’m sure underneath this post, there will be usual comments about them being money sucking ghouls, which I am not averse to as I went through the 15 years of hell like everyone else. Beyond that though, I would always want to know why they were poor with communication, what they hoped to achieve and what they think went wrong? Any comments that shed reasonable light on the above welcome. I appreciate that many will think I am just naive.

Did SISU not place a lot of trust in what Ranson was telling them and by rescuing a struggling 1 city club in the championship and with some investment could result in reaching the cash rich PL?

Yeah, I often reflect on Ranson’s role. He technically saved the club from administration at the time, but it might have been on false premises that caused more trouble moving forward.

SISU and the Council were both to blame, the players and the fans were the victims of pathetic macho BS from both sides.

Thank God MR stuck with us throughout and still gave us a team that was successful against all the odds, and left a legacy to be proud of. (You've got to love that guy)

I agree re the Macho BS, but it still beggers belief that at that level people were willing to cut their nose. I guess the incompetence was at such a level that it is hard to really comprehend.

I think that’s true, but again, it’s hard to fathom someone buying a club without first finding out how much it was losing? Really can’t get my head around it to this day

Yeah, I guess I was asking too much to keep it civil haha. It will just forever be a mystery to me how we ever got to the state we were in. Even with all the books and articles written. You’re right either way. The future is exciting and I’m looking forward to it.

SISU served a purpose in holding the "golden share". They tried to get far more out of the club than they put in via their bullying tactics which worked in previous ventures but they were way out their depth owning a football team. We were very lucky that we had Robins at the helm to mediate between fans and owners. Without him, it would've been 100x worse than it was (and it was shite). Doug King, whilst foremost a businessman, seems to understand the importance of a sports team and its fan base. I'm so glad we are where we are now. As a cov fan the one thing you can't say, is it's ever boring

Pretty simple to me, they were conned by Ranson who wanted to play football club owner. He persuaded them that they would get a relatively quick, and more importantly large, return on investment. They never wanted to particularly own a football club, they wanted to make money.

When it all went to shit they were left with something they didn't know what to do with. They treated it like any other business when we, as fans, know the rules of business don't really apply. If they did the majority of clubs in the country wouldn't exist!

I repeat. The council picked Sisu to own the club. They actually decided who’d be fit and proper owners - I had the misfortune to sit near that thick twat Mutton in block 36 - he looked genuinely surprised when he stood up and said “they (Sisu) ain’t owning this place we (the council) won’t let it happen” and he got dogs abuse.

They were the council’s preferred bidder, which then discouraged other parties from getting involved.

Then there was the incompetent Ray Ranson and his decision to employ Coleman.

Their approach to business was a major problem - the whole “we batter people in court” thing.

As I recall, part of their business was buying distressed debt and in that model being an aggressive prick can work.

When you own a football club you have to work with multiple other parties and that requires a different approach, something that they seemed incapable of.
