At this point you might aswell not bother having linesman on the side. Always Too afraid to make any decision and too happy to rely on the ref to make the decision for them.

Yesterday was embarrassing, the pen aside he missed a couple of clear offsides, one being their goal and at one point flagging simms offside being in his own half.

Went to 2-2 then all of a sudden started calling everything offside, I’d imagine the fear of getting it wrong got to him.

Thankfully it didn’t cost us yesterday, but at what point do they become accountable for incompetency.

Still absolutely raging about the penalty decision.

Still don’t understand reasoning behind ref not giving it.

Can’t be a high foot as he gave a goal kick-reminded me of the wipe out tackle on Lamerias against Sheff Utd.

Also the free kick that gave them the equaliser-he ran into the back of Dasilva and fell over-should’ve been given the other way. Never seen a Lino so eager to flag!

Very poor decisions Could’ve cost us.

For their 2nd, the more baffling one was Wright being flagged offside leading to their first free kick when he was about 20 yards from the ball. Complete ignorance of the current offside laws.

Yeah, this is what winds me more than anything. Looking while they wait for the ref to make a signal before raising their flag. Pathetic.

David Webb referee has not given a single penalty in the 23 games he's refereed this season! He must have a blind spot!

Not a great decision regarding the challenge on EMC. In this instance it’s always best to pause for 1-2 seconds and see where the ball is travelling which he did. If the ball ends up in the net it is good refereeing, however it is all too easy to blow early for the penalty and then watch as the ball trickles over the line.
As the ball went past the post I was expecting the whistle and the penalty kick and was baffled when a goal kick was awarded 🫤

Another one that was absolutely shite. Surely there's a deep rooted issue with the laws of the game because they can't all be this bad. All of them are wank.

I think they are that bad, as they are never allowed to be questioned or challenged. Any player manager or club official who genuinely challenges them publicly gets charged with bringing the game into disrepute, it’s absurd.

This is why they have VAR in top games. Love it or hate it, maybe it's time it was introduced in the Championship?

It’s quite a clear offside too for second goal and it’s not a free kick against Dasilva either

EMC had already played the ball and it was past the keeper, so no way is it high foot, no foul subsequently given either, the keeper was committed to taking him out and knew he'd not be able to avoid contact. The issue is, was it reckless and endangering an opponent, and did he make any contact with the ball? answer is yes on the first count, and no on the second, should result in a penalty and a red card.

That he was already coming down? Well refs do
Also more pertinent is the guy that said the ref hasn’t given one in 24 games

That’s probably why he didn’t give the penalty, as he would’ve had to send the keeper off and he didn’t want to.

Oh shit VAR doesn't help us either.

Agree about the penalty but DaSilva free kick no! Dasilva lost his man, wrapped arms around him pulled him back, then just tried to make it look like a pigs ear. Right in front of me, ref got it right.

Also first goal Dasilva is just jogging back into the penalty area like it is not his responsibility to defend when we have been turned over. He was behind the ball when BTA lost it in their half and he was behind their player in our penalty area when they scored. Absolutely pathetic attitude.

I thought he had a better game v Stoke than normal. But he is clueless about defending. And his deficiencies defensively featured in both Stoke goals.

Having seen it again it was a foul by JDS leading up to the 2nd goal and he is wrong side of the Stoke player, was still offside though. The 1st goal JDS makes no attempt to try and defend, it is almost like he is on the outside looking in when he should be getting involved. Yes he played better yesterday but surely has to do better defensively, I'm not convinced he can.

He just can't spot danger. He is 26 with 241 appearance behind him. He won't get better. He just likes to coast through games with no risk passing. He shows no desire to be a winner or not defeated. He is one of the worst players I have seen in a city shirt. He has ability but it is wasted on him.

You’re not far off really. He is a typical product of an elite academy who is technically a very good footballer and that is where it ends.
He is supposed to be an “attacking” full back/wing back but always chooses the safest option and his positioning in defensive areas and his defending in general is poor.
It’s hard to fathom where this myth of “he’s good going forward” comes from? Can anyone remember the last time he went passed a player and delivered a cross that resulted in a goal?

Always be wary of full backs that have come through at top teams. Chances are they're more like a winger.

Yeah, Gallagher pushed Dasilva and then falls down like a sack of shit moments later when Dasilva pulls him back.

Clearly the linesman saw only the second contact and not the first because he flagged like a motherfucker, couldn't wait to give it.

I have never understood he is good going forward argument either. He rarely takes on a man to try and get in behind (unlike Van Ewijk). He rarely crosses (unlike Bidwell) and just looks for simple safe passes, even if it means going back to the halfway line. If he cuts inside he is lost as he is on his wrong foot and often gives the ball away. For somebody who started out as a winger it is criminal he cannot receive the ball and turn (unlike Sakamoto, Rudoni, Eccles, Torp and Grimes), he can only play the ball the way he is facing. In fact that is a weakness of Van Ewijk too, he can do it if he is in space but not when under pressure, which makes him predictable at times about passing backwards.

Regarding our winner, time running out, ball played to Grimes and only one thing on his mind play the ball into the box. It was a great delivery aimed at Haji Wright. Most importantly it worked the centre half who only half cleared it. It fell to Bobby Thomas who did the rest and we win a game we perhaps didn't deserve to.

But Dasilva would never have put that ball in from that position even with the clock running down.

It was my big criticism of Robins and Viveash. We never worked the centre halfs enough. Our tempo in possession was too predictable and too slow. Last season at home to WBA when chasing the game, was a great example, as we passed it from one side of the pitch to the other around the penalty area. The WBA fans ironically cheering every pass we made as the clock ran down. Ok we had the ball but we were not hurting them. We weren't working their defenders, we weren't building pressure and just not using the ball in a way to force them to make an error. So many goals come from turning defenders and making them play the ball facing their own goal. Or defenders just making half clearances and not getting it out of the penalty area.

Officiating standards have been bad for quite some time and not a week goes by when teams are moaning about bad calls or missed calls. The last 2 games we’ve won 3-2, but in both cases the refs missed critical calls that could have changed the momentum of the game and potentially impacted the final outcome. We’ve basically won in spite of the officials. I don’t know if VAR is the answer, but I know some people like Danny Rohl are demanding for VAR in the Championship. If it means raising the level of the game, then suppose it merits consideration. I also feel teams should be given the opportunities to challenge dubious officiating decisions within reasonable limits. Also I wonder if refs/linesmen who make egregious mistakes ever face any repercussions in terms of fines, suspensions, disciplinary action or mandatory retraining in order to make them more accountable, competent and effective at their jobs.

To be honest I would rather give Jack Burroughs ago as an alternative to Bidwell. Yes he might make mistakes but at least he might learn from them. I am fed up of seeing Dasilva serve up the same failings every time he plays and they often cost us goals. The guy has shown no progress in the last two seasons.
