I didn't think so , he had no effect on the result apart from not booking their keeper early on for time wasting.

Well that is a huge part of it. He gave 6 minutes stoppage time. The keeper held on to the ball for longer than that alone.

The fact he let them time waste from the 18th minute was frustrating!

The referee did not cost us the game. It was our players that cost us that game

He must have been bad even Robins commented. The keeper held the ball for 20 seconds nearly every time, he allowed the tactic change injury in the first half which went on for ages and then added two minutes.

We were poor and his performance was as bad.

Thought he was ok generally but the time wasting thing fucking infuriates me. You can’t pick and choose which rules to apply. Maybe next time we just get rid of corners?

Worst part about today is, despite the copious amounts of timewasting he let them get away with, not even talking to their keeper, he was still not the worst referee I've seen this season.

(Usual disclaimer, someone criticising the referee does not automatically mean they are making excuses, Derby were shite tonight, we were even worse)

Let the game flow (where it could…) and wasn’t strict at all; this didn’t help our cause and played into Derbys hands.

He wasn’t petty and he was pretty consistent. Other than the offside goal which I doubt he could have seen, one of the better ones this season imo.

Time wasting is part and parcel of the modern game unfortunately. We do it as well.We can’t have it both ways.
Time wasting and slow tippy tappy sideways backwards football that all teams play these days has ruined by enjoyment of a game I have loved for 50 years.
Modern football is not worth spending hard earned cash on anymore

Someone qualified said it is up to the referee to set the “tolerance”. Crazy really as it’s difficult to come up with a game plan if the rules are fluid.

It broke the refs heart having to book their number 32, I was watching the ref doing his warm ups and he virtually hugged the bloke after breaking away from his linesmen (those blokes should not be left alone with their sight issues).

Largely agree aside from the fact the Derby players repeatedly ignored his warnings and he just let it slide. Eventually booked one of their players for time wasting during a throw in.

People say book the keeper it’s just a waste of effort as they are never going to give him a second one and he knows it so goes even slower, the punishment should be a direct free kick on the edge of the box and you put it where you want.

Not giving a second booking / red for persistent time wasting is just so wrong. It would stop pretty quickly.

Odd decision to book just Eccles after the goal. He was rugby tackled (see the replay from behind the goal) by Adams who was already on a yellow. Even if you play an advantage you can still book a player for a foul. Adams had probably committed at least three bookable offences up to that point. Eccles gets booked for mouthing off. Not saying he shouldn't have been but he has the same disciplinary record for that game as Adams yet was nowhere near as dangerous. I just wish Cov had a player like him to push it to the limit with refs. Ironic that Michael Doyle was the match guest yesterday.

Yeah he was very lenient, perfect ref for an away team playing a low block and trying to waste time tbh.

As soon as people say “tippy tappy” I know I’m about to read a “BACK IN MY DAY” kind of post that is just general bollocks.

TBH I’m also getting to the point where I find modern football quite boring. I don’t bother watching internationals or Prem football any more. I’m sick of the international breaks interrupting the flow of the season. I’m sick of Man, City both allegedly cheating financially and then whinging about their injuries - the answer don’t agree to the ever expanding competition formats then.

Champions League - what a misnomer. If should be renamed the Also Rans League.

MVE was targetted constantly with the goalie ball down their left wing in the second half, hardly got near their player

He is weak defensively, his pace helps him recover, but he is in recovery mode too often. His pace masks his poor defending.

Certain parts of this I understand; too many international breaks, financial cheating, changing of competition formats in an attempt to increase revenue are all annoying.

However, I like to watch football where the team can pass to each other rather than hoof the ball over the defence and all run after it.

Half of liking it more in the past is pure nostalgia, harking back to a time where you had more energy to enjoy it!

You could hardly accuse George Best of hoof ball. Or Ian Gibson come to that.

No, there were some good players of course there were.

Doesn’t mean there aren’t more better players now, playing better quality football.
