What did he bottle? That implies that he was scared or frightened to make a decision? Not sure I buy that. If you said he’d made an error then that would be nearer to what happened.

Yep a mistake for me but the speed of it all happening makes it pretty impossible
You do get good at judging but the official has to give what he sees
Didn’t stop me shouting last night

The referee would always be relying/counting on his assistant to give the offside decisions.
Not sure an expression on someone’s face would have a bearing on somebody raising their flag or not?

I think it is "should always be" I was sitting with a direct line between me and the ref. with the linesman in between and thats what I could see. He told Sheff come come away rightly so any complaint should have been to him and voiced by Fadz.
As for relying on them I have watched games where the linesman who is a ref. in his own right has waited for the ref.to make a decision before putting his flag up dispite having a better view of an incident why?

This keeping the game flowing great. The problem I find is watching a game over the weekend a player stood on a opponent ankle which would warrent a booking normally the ref. never returned to book him.

The ref and the lino knew at the time they'd got it wrong but neither had the bottle to admit so and change the decision.

Also so many linos even it our level don't really make decisions and let the ref who is in a far worse position make the call.

This account, charity apparently, doesn’t help improve the relationship between fans and officials with ridiculous whataboutism to absolve blame.

Wright and Wilson have plenty of evidence to present after Monday!

My frustration is the complete lack of game awareness that referees have.

Its tied to time wasting, but niggley fouls and slowing the ball down after them, the sitting on the floor. All of those are so obvious, and I would yellow card immediately for them. They are more disruptive than anything in a game.

There was a point on Monday when their player went down. The referee stopped the game and delayed an attacking throw-in for us. In the meantime, one of their defenders has gone over to talk to the manager. The player on the desk then gets up because he doesn't want to go off and get treatment (shock). The referee sets the game back up, and we go to take the throw-in and continue the already delayed attack. The referee notices their defender talking to Corberan and then stops the game and beckons their defender back onto the pitch and allows him time to reach his position in the defensive shape.

What the fuck is that about?

Not only have you allowed them to slow the game down, disrupt our momentum, allow them to reset into their shape - but you've allowed a coaching break and allowed the player to then come back in delaying the game further.

It’s a reasonable point, inelegantly made.

A referee’s mistake is inherently no different, and no more damaging than a player’s mistake. The idea that the game should be stopped and play bought back so a bad pass could be replaced by a good one would be ludicrous, but apparently the integrity of the game is at risk if we don’t micromanage every refereeing decision we can, even if we have to literally stop playing to do so.

Have tried over the years to explain why certain things get given and sometimes don’t get given in regards to officials etc and am usually shot down. Unfortunately the biased football fan will never appreciate or understand and that will never change until it is seen from the other side of the fence.

Although if somebody was making costly mistakes week in, week out in a business where a mistake could potentially cost a lot of money they wouldn't be in a job for long, would they?

Correct, which is why refs get assessed and demoted if necessary.

I don’t see how it’s any different to Haji Wright being dropped after a rough few games only to come back into the same side a week or so later.

What are you suggesting, one bad mistake and you’re struck off for life?

If he missed sitters week in week out he would be dropped and released.

Fact is, in our game the other night the officials got multiple important decisions wrong and do most games. Even more so when you have VAR officials making mistakes.

The odd mistake is going to happen, when it's so often it's questionable.

180/200 is a pretty good score
Of those 20 you hope they are not major but sometimes they will be

Or find/remain at a certain level which is similarly the same regarding players.
Take Keith Stroud-an official who has remained in the Championship for years, does an adequate job at that standard but not deemed good enough for the Premier League.
Kasey Palmer-found his level/adequate (maybe) but will not be good enough for the Premier League.

What’s silly about it? If you want respect, it’s probably best to respect others too!

There is no way that referees are “missing sitters week in week out”. The only reason people argue otherwise is either because Sky etc lazily drone on about referees incessantly in the absence of actual analysis, and/or because they’re paranoid moaning man-children who can only tolerate watching games that we win comfortably.

And no, this is not the same as saying referees don’t make mistakes. But if you go in with the mentality that no refereeing mistakes are ever acceptable, by punishment of being “dropped and released” then is it any wonder we’re fucking up the game by trying to fix it?

When I played I never ever once cheated the players these days are now cheating by diving and trying to get fellow pros sent off or booked its about time the useless various authorities Fifa,Uefa etc stamped down and started retrospective bans for the diving scum of the game this would ease some of the burden from match officials having said that some referees are so poor its no wonder the cheats throw themselves to the ground. Lets start a campaign called SOCK stamp out cheating kunts

Not making excuses - we didn’t take our chances and defended poorly, but this was the wright one when he was clean through…. I’m assuming it was the same linesman, but for him to give wright offside for this and their guy onside for the goal is outrageous….
