Ref again (4 Viewers)

Thing is no one expects them to be perfect, just want them to keep the game moving and be consistent. Great ref
Not sure we would want them to be consistently wrong though. I’d love to be a fly on the wall while they watch a replay. Well, a hornet really so I could sting the bastards when they admit an error. Every time.

Ref was really good for both teams. Didn't blow his whistle every time someone hit the deck for starters.

That female lino got one throw in wrong, and that fair challenge on Rudoni,he gave her something then.
Yeah I was thinking don't carp about it Rudi it achieves nothing to mouth off at her, just get back in position.

Good ref, I thought he let a body check on Haji go, didn't call a foul when Simms was practically wrestled to the ground. But then again I am biased.🤭

I thought he might have booked Rudi and the Middlesbrough goalie near the end when there was a bit of afters because Rudi had impeded his punt upfield but he just spoke to both of them.

haven’t seen a replay on that specifically but watching live on tv i thought was just a good physical shoulder barge
There was a bit of a kick on the foot which I thought was more of a foul than Dasilva last week. VAR might not have liked it, but in the end made no difference to the outcome.

Shows how terrible championship refs are that you can tell the difference that much.

He was very fair today but I don't think either us or Middlesbrough are shit house teams which helps a lot with the flow of the game.
That's because both clubs have decent honourable managers. Unlike some clubs I couldn't mention ( OK Sheff U and Luton for a start )

No big decisions and I'm probably letting my elated mood cloud my judgement, but I thought that was one if the best refereeing performances I've seen in a long time, home or away. Understood the occasion, spoke to players, let it flow when he could. No issues with our bookings, even them he allowed play on before booking Milan. Genuinely impressed.

Yep, spot on.

If you listen to ex-players and managers they always say the best refs you don't tend to notice . Today was a great example of that , the game flowed , it was physical and competitive but there wasn't a time I was berating the ref . For me he got the bookings right and was fair to both teams .
Shame we get below par refs the rest of the season

The ref in the Sunderland 3-0 game was the best I’d seen this season
But yeah today he kept control, handled the players really well. No really contentious decisions.
Even prem refs/lino’s won’t get everything right but you do see a noticeable difference generally.

Why don’t they just make that sort of “obstruction” illegal. being able to book goalies who are being impeded is a bit “cake and eat it”. It’s bound to piss of the goalie, presents an opportunity for confrontation. Wilson was delaying his kick but also trying to get the ref to shift the Middlesbrough player who was obstructing.

I was not talking about Wilson, did you see what Rudi did? Very late in the game at one point he was making contact with Travers, shadowing him to the edge of the area preventing from kicking. Shortly after the ball was eventually kicked upfield the ref stopped play and turning my view back to the area I saw Rudi lying on the ground holding his head.
