Defence and Marosi not really tested but we won every header at the back pretty much.

Shipley was lively first half, didnt really work for Westbrooke.

O hare made the difference by running at them, Biamou worked really hard which got him a goal. Covered defensively too.

Godden wasn't really in it much.

Marosi - 7 Another clinic on distribution from the back, just look at their keeper as an example of how not to kick in that wind

Dabo - 6 A little scatterbrain at times as usual but got under their skin and made a nuisance
Rose - 7
McFadzean - 8 Excellent all round today
Hyam - 7
McCallum - 6 Wasted a few crosses in the second half that really should have been put away

Walsh - 8 MOTM Clearly a class above anyone else on the pitch, so important to everything we do
Kelly - 7
Westbrooke - 6
Shipley - 6 Should really have scored with the shot that hit the post

Godden - 6 Once again looked a lot more dangerous with a strike partner

Subs
O'Hare - 8 Changed the game, Southend completely failed to close him down
Biamou - 7 Worked his socks off
Pask - 6

Robins - 9 Took the opportunity to rest some of our livewires and looked to control the game with Shipley and Westbrooke instead. Probably wouldn't have even needed to bring on O'Hare if one of the woodwork efforts had gone in in the first half.

Feel like the scores would be even higher if we were playing a vaguely competent team, but you can only beat what's in front of you as the cliche goes

Disagree.
The reason we are keeping clean sheets is partially due to one up front for first 60 plus minutes
Has worked for last 10 games or so, so why change ??

One of the biggest wins today was Dabo somehow not getting a red. He's so important to us that it would have been a disaster to see him suspended. Probably should have been subbed earlier.

Loved that. Just thought ‘what would Burge have done’ at the time. Couldn’t help but think faced with that he would have stuttered and Esther left it for a free header or dropped it at the strikers feet. Marosi calm as you like sorted it out.

Absolutely see both sides of this argument.

In either formation, I personally would like to see O'Hare on the pitch as long as possible. He's a true 10.

I can't ever remember a City team having so many options in formation or a stronger bench.

We also have the added 'problem' of bringing a near fully fit JJ into the mix.....who offers a different dimension as well. I'm a big fan of Allen as well and what he brings.

Shipley plays a key role in this formation as he plays a truly advanced role in supporting the lone striker - and must lead the midfield stats for goals/shots on target. So he's not playing a true number 10 role but in some situations he's even more advanced than Godden.

Our midfield must be a nightmare to play against given what each player brings and how they play different roles.

Max & Baka play the lone role better than Godden or have done of late anyway for me if we’re gonna go 1 up I would prefer one of them over Godden

Agree with that cc84 for the most part. I do think Godden does a lot of work that is unnoticed. Whoever is playing that role - it's the hardest role on the pitch - always outnumbered but always needing to find some space to receive the ball from the midfield three. Or to drag the defenders out of position to give the midfield runners space.

Fair point my issue is he just gets dominated by big defenders seeing it most weeks

Weird game, we didn’t really need to come out of second gear at all. O’Hare changed it, gave us a bit more life, but Southend were poor and I was confident we’d go on and win even before the subs.

All 7s apart from McFadz, Walsh and O’Hare with 8s. Dabo gets a 6 for being stupid with those fouls. Should have been sent off I think.

Must be a nice feeling for Robins to bring on both goal scorers. I really think he’s the man to take us up.

Marosi...7
Dabo...7
Hyam 8...brilliant again..flawless. his passing is improving.
Mcfadz..8
Rose.....6...still not at his best only one of back 3 again who gives ball away needlessly. Pask would be a better option judging on last 3 games. Imo.
Macallum...6..better
Kelly ..8..back to his gritty best
Walsh..7
Westbrook...7
Shipley.....7
Godden...7...Not sure why so my many criticism of him and low rating...worked so hard for the team. I thought he was good.

Ohare...7
Biamou.. 7

Can see he's back to his best. Didn't really get a sniff today. But he contributed to teams cause.

He needs to be more of a goal threat when playing up top on his own. He does some great work for the team no denying and if he’d had Shipley’s shots today I’d have said he had a good game but he spends too little time in the penalty area.

How anybody can rate McCallum above godden today is mind blowing.

The lad was abysmal again for long periods
Did OK last 15

Kelly iffy again at times, Walsh grew into it.
