Bidwell however has been different gravy this season, last season was an adaptation season for him, it’s difficult to come in in January and hit the ground running when your confidence is low and you’ve played very little in the first half of the season. But this season has been my favourite player

I know this will be an unpopular view, but I think Allen's been OK this season - he's just become the fashionable SBT boo boy around these parts now Bidwell's yesterday's news.

He’s been a little less than ok IMO but looks far more comfortable in the deeper midfield role than the AM role. Decent yesterday, mind.

I won't even go for my second opinion that there have been games when he's been more effective than Sheaf this season, as I do actually have things to do today other than post on here!

We just seemed very pedestrian moving the ball forwards and have since Hamer was out. Allen and Eccles at their best are very tidy midfielders, but neither is a goal threat or has the ability to move us up the pitch quickly like Hamer. Away from home playing essentially 3 DMs is one thing, I wouldn’t want to do it at home.

He’s has one decent game at CM, he’s been an unmitigated disaster at AM and mostly ineffectual at CM. He has so little impact on the game, people like him cos he runs around a lot.

Wilson - 6 - Didn’t have an awful lot to do. Kicking still off but he’s found a rhythm of not conceding goals so fair play to him.

Doyle - 6 - Not the best I’ve seen him and one error in particular which could have cost a goal. Assumed he was injured when hooked but seems not and worked out for us.

McFadzean - 8 - Just class. Another season where I’m convinced he’s on his last legs and then he pulls out a performance like that. I’d rather not us be so reliant on him but no complaints when like today.

Panzo - 7 -Looked a lot more comfortable today. Impressed.

Dabo - 6 - Inconsistent throughout. At times, really liked to get at his opposing wing back but then misplaced the pass, and also conceded a fair bit of territory to the opposing wing back at other times.

Eccles - 8 - Brilliant performance today, calm in possession, positionally disciplined, played like today was his 100th game. No more to be said.

Sheaf - 6 - Just not quite at his usual levels recently, although still decent.

Bidwell - 7 - Really starting to settle into the side now and a constant outlet on the left.

Allen - 7 - One of his more impressive games today, had some quality to go with the energy. Still thinks he suits the deeper midfield role better.

Godden - 6 - Seemed to work a bit smarter today and unlucky not to score.

Gyokeres - 7 - desperately frustrating at times, takes a little too long and doesn’t always choose the best option. That said, another goal in a 1-0.

Rose - 7 - Feared the worst when he came on but stood up to the test more than adequately.

Palmer - 6 - Not as involved as he has been in previous matches. Closed down well.

Waghorn - 7 - brought a bit more experience to help see the game out.

These are roughly how i saw it, maybe a 7 for Wilson given how much better his kicking was and id not have given Eccles an 8. One thing i do quite like this season is we seem to have a bit of attitude from players like Palmer and Panzo (they seem happy to try and wind people up/not back down to any bullshit) and Wilson is good at time-wasting when we need him to. I thought it was a gritty and probably fortunate win but the 100% away record for my son is still intact which always makes the drive home easier!

I never went to Ninian Park but i was expecting things to be a bit hostile potentially, stewards were the friendliest lot i think i've ever met and hardly a peep from the home fans though.

We've been a lot more negative in general recently which has facilitated conceding 1 in 4.
Think we had to go back to basics given our poor start, very reminiscent of our firstseadon back.

In part due to Hamer’s suspension we had little choice. If he starts in midweek he’d better not let his side down straight off the bat

Its not just that. The quality in the middle just wasn’t there for big chunks yesterday. Passing has been poor and unimaginative.

We went into this season needing backup to Hamer and never got it, now people want to not play him and stick two average CMs in instead of him and Palmer because reasons.

Just mental. You play your best players.

Its not a case of not wanting to play him, it's a case of not wanting someone so indiscipline to waltz straight back into the team.
He clearly never learned from what happened at Millwall so it sends out the wrong message to put him straight back in as far as I'm concerned.
If COH walks straight back into the team at the expense of AllenI wouldn't argue with it.

I still don’t understand the message. It seems like the old meme about making kids smoke a whole pack of cigarettes cos you caught them smoking, or fucking for virginity.

If he’s the best footballing choice you’re just weakening your team to make a point.

Do you think no one’s mentioned it to him?

For all we know he feels like shit and is raring to make amends on the pitch. The punishment is meted out in fines and in the dressing room, as well as playing U23 games. The game isn’t the time to be doing that IMO. We need all the players we can get right now.

Would you drop Vik so he doesn’t spoon an open goal wide again? Players know when they fuck up.

The only time I’d agree would be if the team is doing well in that position since you’ve been gone, but that’s not the case here. Our midfield without any of him Palmer or O’Hare has been mostly dire.

Big difference between Vik missing chances and gross stupidity.

So would you drop him forever? Sell him in Jan? We’re paying his wages either way.

He shouldn’t have retaliated against Brum and he’s got himself a reputation with refs no doubt, but even with all that he’s one of our best players.

He’s got the same sending off record at City as Dabo, who also got two reds last season.

Why would I drop him forever?
Stick him on the bench and let him play his way back into the team.
As for selling him, I don't want him to go, but if we have to sell him I want the best price possible, his disciplinary record will definitely I be driving the price down.

Of course, that and his inconsistency are probably why he’s still here. Just like O’Hares scoring.

I just don’t think we’re in a position to be that picky.

Dont think I’ve said that. You’d better take it up with the manager as he’s the first name on the team sheet so far

He hasn't had any option up to now due to injuries and fitness. If O'Hare, Hamer and Palmer had been available Allen would not have played. But you were arguing for not playing Hamer and keeping Allen in the team.

You're all assuming he'll come in for another midfielder. Personally I'd bring him in and play one top, dropping Matty to the bench. An extra man in midfield v Sheff U could be crucial.

In that case surely you’d bring Palmer or Waghorn in, and play Eccles and Sheaf deep with Allen and Palmer/waghorn AM

If I was Hamer's team mate and saw him waltz back in to the starting XI after the turnaround in his absence and winning last time out, I'd be gutted. Start him on the bench. If he impresses enough as a sub, he warrants a start next time out. Like someone else said, let me play his way back in.

@schmeee Would Palmer in for Allen not have a chance of addressing the issue you talked about?

If I was his team mate I'd welcome him back into the side if I thought he'd give us a better chance of winning. I also hold the view he was unlucky to be sent off and that he was freeing himself from the Blues lad holding him down.

If it was one change possibly, but I think I'd make a couple. Would be harsh on Eccles or Allen who were both decent yesterday, but neither close to what Gus can offer us.

Edit: yes aware that contradicts my initial post on being for a midfielder but on reflection I think I'd set up with that extra man in midfield but you're right with Palmer too.

Sheaf is going to be suspended in the next couple of weeks so will need the whole squad. O'Hare will be eased back in slowly so can see Hamer and Kelly pairing up.
