Keogh got caught out at least 3 times in the first half with this diagonal ball. He very much improved as the game wore on but he needs marking down for those first half errors. Bell was very poor as was Hussey. Juke MOTM by a country mile.

Yep. Definitely improved as the game wore on.

Clearly apparent to me that the bloke is a full back!!!

Reasonable marks from the opening poster and agree that Keogh was stand out (I think 6 is very harsh Otis, but entitled o your opinion of course). I also agree with a 7 for Sammy. He did make a few bad passes today but he worked so hard was trying to organise in very difficult circumstances against a team with plenty of experience. I thought Hussey and Bell were poor as everyone else has pointed out, but so too was Cameron. Caught a few times also tried to play off-side on his own, isn't a commanding presence and lifts balls more in hope than anything else over the top to a sea of bodies. Very unconvincing and need Wood or McPake in there when fit.

Murphy 5 - Nothing major to do and again seemed to flap and spill balls. Getting worried by him. Good communication though.
Keogh 7 - Got up and down the pitch very well.
Cameron 9 - Pretty much faultless from the lad. Was vocal, got stuck in and didn't shy away from duties like the others during the first half.
Cranie 7 - Didn't really stand out in a good or bad way, pretty solid defensive performance.
Hussey 4 - Was caught out too many times, positioning was poor and seems unable to make decisions for himself. Only seemed to sort it out after Murphy had a go at him.
Clingan 6 - Not been convinced by his recent performances. Seems to take a bit too much time on the ball on occasions and vocally isn't having the impact he did last year.
Thomas 7 - A quiet first half but second half showed some good touches and wasn't afraid to put in a tackle.
Bell 5 - Slow, sluggish and just didn't look the part. Didn't help that he had no support from Hussey.
McSheffrey 6 - Reminds me of a little puppy. Gets all around the pitch but sometimes gets a little too excited when in a good position and wastes a chance.
O'Donovan 6 - Did a decent job today but doesn't seem to have the strikers instinct we need.
Juke 8 - A solid display, a good goal and the work-rate never dropped.

Deegan 8 - Craking goal, got stuck in and could be just what we need in midfield.
Platt 7 - Did well with the ball at his feet and put pressure on the Blackpool defence.
Christie 6 - Looked a little uncomfortable on the left giving away a silly free kick but made some cracking runs. Just lacking the final touches at the moment.

Man of the match - Cameron. Filled in and put in a cracking performance in the heart of defence. Shook off a couple of little knocks in the first half and seemed to be the only one in the back 4 communicating during the first half. His positioning was very good and he wasn't afraid to put in a tackle when required.

I know stats indicate we dominated possession but it seemed to me as if there were many more long balls than usual. For the first 70 mins I thought we were dreadful, we only looked like scoring from one of Juke's flick on or from Juke himself. When the subs came I don't think we played any better football it was more of the tempo increase and urgency that gave us the advantage over Blackpool. Two great goals gave us the lead but we still couldn't hold on to it. Mcsheffrey wasn't anywhere as near as good as Saturday's match where he ran the show, Bell is too slow and wants too much time on the ball. O'donovan was just as ineffective as Mcdonald has been. Thomas was very good and made some excellent challenges and played some great passes. Cameron defended well but I hold my breath every time the ball goes near him on the deck as he doesn't seem very comfortable on the ball to me. At the moment for me Platt is offering more to our side than O'donovan or Mcdonald.

Murphy 6, Keogh 7 (always gives his all and another good game), Hussey 4, Cameron 8 (best central defensive performance of the season), Cranie 6, Clingan 6, Bell 4, Thomas 6, Mcsheffery 6, Juke 7 oh and of course ODonavan I give him 3 for turning up. To me he contributes nothing.

Deegan 8 (changed the game), Christie 7 (impressive going forward), Platt 7 (added presence up front)

The subs all made a big difference

Murphy-7. 2 very good saves, decent communication and distribution but didn't command area enough. Didn't see the angle for 2nd goal so can't have a go at him for that myself.
Keogh-8. Seemed to love being back at RB. Bit rusty, but still great. Loved the goal celebration, screaming like a maniac at the fans! Also, lovely touch just before the corner where he patted Deegs, making a "Come on, this is it, you're back mate" gesture. Great team player, great assist for the goal, never gives up. Still hasn't missed a minute in the league since he signed.
Hussey-5. I love Hussey, but he was relatively poor tonight. Was entirley foxed by Blackpools diagonal long balls, and taught a footballing lesson by the superb Gary Taylor-Fletcher. I don't think he's usually weak defensively-his tackling his strong and determined. But he is young (21!), has played every minute this season, and will improve. The stick tonight is similar to that Turner got-I'm sure he'll turn it around and go on to play in the top flight. Even tonight, he still made some superb forward runs and passes to feet, and beat his man with those little 10-yard sprints. Crossing generally weak, but one peach of a ball first half and another that caused mayhem in the second.
Cranie-7. Better tonight than of late, seemed to enjoy a bit more responsibility as the sole "ball-playing" CB. Struggled with a few aerial balls.
Cameron-9. Just what the doctor ordered-a strong, aerially dominant CB who doesn't over-elaborate. A defender who just wants to defend, although he did provide a threat from set-pieces. Distribution was much improved-reminds me of GS saying "Well Shawsy can't pass for toffee, so we're trying to get him better at just passing over a short distance to someone else who is better at it than him.." Another fine young prospect, who deserves to keep his place. Reminded me a bit of the superb Leon Barnett performance for Norwich last night (yeah, I know, I can't believe it either..) Man of the Match for me. Brilliant showing and his best for the club.
Clingan-6. Maybe harsh, but just doesn't seem at his usual standards. Isn't playing killer balls like he used to, looks sluggish...but then the guy has a huge responsibility as skipper of a rookie side-maybe the strain is starting to show?
Bell-7. Sorry folks, i thought he used the ball intelligently, beat his man, closed down with more energy than usual, had a decent shot, linked well with Hussey..wasn't helped by an ineffective McSheffrey showing, but no-way deserves the stick he's getting. Has a better first touch than anyone in our squad. Ladies and Gentlemen, we have our new Julian Gray/Michael McIndoe/Ben Turner/Kevin Kyle/Julian Darby etc, ad infinitum, Boo Boys Favourite!
Thomas-7.5 Bit naive in positioning at times, but better than Gael is in that area. Otherwise-a quality performance. 2 or 3 strong tackles, looks much more match-fit, some decent passes and faultless desire-closes down decently. Was on fire for a 10 minute spell around the goals, which shows just how good a player he can be when confident.
McSheffrey-6. Shame that he didn't follow up Saturdays showing. Looked like he can't manage 2 90 mins in 3 days at this level of fitness. Wasn't atrocious, but first touch wanting a few times and didn't move into space or support the wide areas like he did on Saturday.
O'Donovan-7. Looked dangerous with pacey movement and tenacious closing down in the early stages-once again, did much more than Cody had in his 3 starts. But was then moved to the LW to help cope with Blackpools threat in a spell where they threatened to tear us apart. He then continued to harry, tackle and hassle his opponents constantly, doing just what was needed to unsettle a composed passing sides building-from-the-back. Broke up play on 3 occasions that led to counter-attacks. Was through when ref erroneously called for a Blackpool FK in the 2nd half. Deserves a run up front rather than deployed deeper. Must stay in the side due to his pace and acceleration.
Lukas-7. Battled well against the odds as a lone frontman for much of the game but got little change out of the Blackpool CB's. Failed to win any of a number of crosses into the area in the first half. Took his goal absolutely superbly-his most predatory finish for us to date. Needs a second striker ahead of him, ideally one with pace...
Subs:
Deegan-9. Just awesome, all I ever thought he could be. See "Deegan.." thread for more adulation. :D
Platt-8. Did all we could ask off him, held ball up well and scared the crap out of the Blackpool defence with his power and aggression. Shades of the super-sub he was early on during the Aidy reign. He could well be our Plan B. See "Platt.." thread for more confused pondering by people who thought he was crap before but now think he could have a valuable role to play...
Christie-7. Another smart substitution, added another dimension with his snake-hips dribbling. But still not convinced defensively-looked scared to tackle after the Pen on Sat. I know he was a striker not long ago..are we sure this kid is a defender? He beats defenders for fun at times, maybe he should be deployed in a more attacking role? I'd say winger, but we don't play with wingers..food for thought. Has a goal in him, and looked even more likely to bag one cutting onto his right from the left side. He was even more dangerous doing this from LB in pre-season than he was at RB. At last some competition for Husseys place?

Thorn-9. Getting one hell of a lot out of the most inexperienced CCFC side since the Thompson-Whitton era. Got his subs spot on, and his reorganisation to (a different shaped) 4-3-3 kept us in the game when we were drowning. Coulda won, coulda lost, but boy was it entertaining. Doesn't do our position in the table much good, but again, the hope...there has to be enough there to see us stay up.

Agre with most NLHWC ,but i'd give Clingan 2 more ,much improved on saturday passing much more accurate ,though fualt him for the corner ,that lead to the series of corners that lead to the goal ,,I'd have to take 1 off Bell nearly all first half passes went astray, confidence thing ,as you say we have to have our victim s ,it certainly won't improve him, did'nt get why he seemed so much down the left side ,when it was noticable how strong the Hussey/Mcsheff combination was, finally Juke ,would add 1.5 onto his ,another really strong performance coupled with a proper goal, lets all get to oakwell and drive them on ,there is reason to be positive ,at least on the field:D

Barnsley...can we bag our usual 4 goals? Hmm, maybe if Deeg-aldo is fit to start :D

I'm glad AT has joined me in the Roy Appreciation Society (it was lonely in there..) but I really think he deserves a run up front. If he has a full game there rather than out wide or withdrawn deep, I'm certain he'll score. He is very very quick, and I can't believe the ratings some have given him given the adulation heaped on Morrell for that kind of work rate. He ran his socks off tonight. If Freddy grafted like Roy he'd be in the side every week.

I wass reading the programme before the game and they interviewed ROD and he said nathan cameron is easily the strongest in the team, you could see that last night.

Well I've been saying that in Cranie and Keogh as a centre back partnership we lack a bit of command, muscle and strength. Cameron brings that by the bucketload. I would keep him in the side and I have said eleventy billion times, Keogh is a fullback.

Can't be bothered doing the ratings :D

I thought we were poor last night until Deegan came on. There seems to be a worrying pattern developing as per the recent games seem to go where by we never get going until the second half. Derby, Reading & now Blackpool it's taken until sometime into the second half before we kick on and show some fight.

First 30-40 mins last night we looked 3rd best. I'm not sure if Blackpool took there foot off the gas but the game petered out into a nothing game. Some pretty passing form both sides but no substance. Then we had a great 15 mins bagged two goals before sitting back. I still didn't think they had the equaliser in them. Gutted we lost the 2 points but in all honesty over the 90 mins we didn't deserve them just a shame they were there for the taking.

Pretty much agree apart from juke being my mom.
Also agree that, that proves beyond doubt that Keogh is a full back!
Thought Sheffers was poor.
Bells crossing was a let down.
Murphy no comment (again)
Platt, Deegan and Cyrus did very well.
Also thought Cameron did okay.

A number of things worried me about last night

The first half hour. Our senior players plus Hussey went missing and it was left to the younger more inexperienced players to keep us in the game. Simply not good enough from the likes of Bell, McSheffery, Clingan, Keogh & Hussey

The tactics of the diamond - Holloway knew what was coming and his team exploited it well (apart from scoring). Our full backs were told to defend tight to the penalty box and Taylor-Fletcher knew that by staying wide they could exert pressure. Hussey had a torrid time and Keogh less than impressive in that first 30 mins. Should not have taken 30 mins to change formation to 4 4 2, the evidence has been building for several matches that the diamond means a weak midfield that exposes the fullbacks. Part of the reason we didnt concede more was that Cameron wasnt afraid to get his foot in. We look great retaining the ball in our half using that diamond system but we are not actually hurting the opposition doing it, infact it gives them plenty of time to get organised.

Do not and never will accept jeering a player off the pitch for a substitution is acceptable.

Deagan - before we welcome in yet another "superstar" lets see him play a few games. Yes he scored yes he played a clever pass to Christie but (understandably) he ran out of steam quickly. I agree his goal made a difference but......

Thomas - for me one of the most pleasing pluses on the night - still finding his way still gets bypassed at times but you can see he has something and his passing put many more senior players to shame. It was often him who played Keogh in or encouraged him to do so, plus Thomas didnt seem scared of a tackle like some.

Cameron, Deagan, Thomas, Juke, Keogh (second half) Christie & Platt were the ones on the night that tried to get in the opposition faces - something others in our squad could learn from. Crainie was the calming influence at the back.

overall we won the second half but clearly lost the first half
