Best players for us were

Sheffs - chased everything, playng out of comfort zone, stopped the portsmouth midfield being effective, oh yeah and he scored a sweet goal, he wanted it - my MoM
Norwood - Good display & excellent finish, which includes getting to the right place at the right time, you can see his confidence rising with every match now
Clarke - our best defender today & did some nice runs into the box
Hussey - lot of crosses & shots, including the hard low pass for Sheffs well taken goal, damn pity he limped off
Platt - pissed on the defenders
Nimley - one moment of magic secured the game for us, otherwise pretty industrious if not looking llikley to score

Less good, but OK
Clingan, Bigi, Thomas, Keogh (kept falling over?), Cranie, Murphy

Murphy-7-No saves of note apart from a camera save near the end, handling good and good command of area
Clarke-8-He is improving all the time, he is better than I remember him now. Great work from him for Norwoods goal
Keogh-7-Great blocks, tackling and improving in the air. A few sloppy passes though today
Cranie-7-Reads the game well and is good at just nicking the ball away from the attackers feet, compliments Keogh well
Hussey-7-Got forward well and was solid defensively, sometimes wasteful crossing. Got an assist
Clingan-8-Controlled the game at times in second half
Thomas-5-Completely off the pace of the game today, every time he controlled the ball it was bouncing 4 yards away from him and gave the ball away countless times in the first half
Norwood-7-Grabbed the vital second goal
Mcsheff-8-Fantastic finish for the goal and was always a threat ghosting into the area unmarked
Platt-7-Led the line well and took a battering at times, his flicks didn't really come off today
Nimely-7-Great assist for the goal and was always a threat with his pace. Not sure if I am imagining this but he doesn't seem to have the same flair/confidence he had in his first 5 games today, many times he had a chance to dribble at the Pompy back 4 and decided not to

Gael-8-Linked up well with Nimely and Clarke, defended very well today as well with pressing Portsmouth and even managed a successful slide tackle.

First half was a cagey game with both teams looking nervous, it was an even game with Platts chance which was tipped wide by Ashdown the only real chance of the half. Second half we started it fantastically and deserved to take the lead through a great goal by Sheffers. We then had a sloppy 20 mins where we lost our discipline a bit, gave away countless free kicks in dangerous positions and were lucky not to be punished. Our second goal was a great goal, Clarke did superb to beat his man and play in Nimely who then crossed brilliantly for Norwood to tap home at the far post. We then saw out the last 10 minutes rather comfortably without any great scare.
We just need to keep chipping away at the gap and we can do it, win our last 3 home and a point at Bristol could well keep us up.

Also can all the people who keep saying we will be bottom of the league after Pompy and Donny win their games in hand go and crawl back into their holes?

Sorry, but how on earth can you give Thomas 7?:eek: He was taken off at half-time because he was so poor. I thought he was absolutely dreadful. Just terrible. Like he'd never played football in his life before.

Well done AT for taking him off. Changed the game when Bigi came on and replaced him.

MOTM for me was Jordan Clarke.

I have to say even three or four games ago I thought Jordan looked a bag of W. But, he has proved me wrong and he was great today. I thought we'd miss Cameron but we didn't. I was pleased to see Hussey back today, he's a great player, I think.

Just shows its all about opinions as personally I thought Sheffers wasn't great apart from the goal, ran around more than usual but fairly ineffective. However redeemed by a really classy finish. Equally I thought Nimley was off his game but produced a pacey run and good shot in the second half and did great to set up the second goal. For me (and first half in particular), I thought our both our full backs were outstanding with Clarke being on another level. Tackled well, great going forward, immense work rate and excellent passing. He looked composed and a real threat with some of the positions he took up - as good a performance as I've seen from a City full back in years. I really like Norwood too - seems to find time and has a great range of passing. Added goals to his game too in the last two games and if he can keep that up, is a real prospect to play for United next season. Platt - does anyone work harder than him? Such a refreshing change. Not blessed with pace or skill, but a real handful and won everything. If those around him had read some of the knockdowns it could have been even better. The rest were fairly solid. I thought Gael for Thomas was right as the ball was given away too often and too easily but a deserved win for agood team performanace.

Your ratings suggest to me that you were at the game and not what you dreamt or heard via radio or bbc texts. Seamed about the same from block 16. I,m not one to slag our players off but Thomas would,nt get above 5 from me.

Thomas was poor today. But he's a young lad who plays a lot of football. Players have off games.

I agree no one is slating him players like Thomas are the future of the club, still coming back from about 6 weeks or so inured as well. Was right decision to take him off though.

Definitely. We were discussing at half time. It was a pleasant surprise that Thorn made the change straightaway. I thought we had a much better shape and balance once Bigi was on.

Also has anyone seen the BBC match report? Making it sound as if poor hard done by pompy were unlucky not to win
The away side had the better of a first half that included chances for both sides.
Pompey continued in the ascendancy after the break, Joel Ward's 20-yard strike testing Murphy.
McSheffrey finishing when Chris Hussey's scuffed shot fell at his feet.

But despite Portsmouth maintaining possession, and Maguire rattling the woodwork, it was Norwood who settled it from six yards out.

Amazing how a bit of sympathy can obscure peoples views eh

Good all round display today. Clingan was really driving the midfield in the 2nd half.

Connor struggled today, Hussey played really well and gave us a good option down the flanks.

Got to give it to Platt, the defenders really know they have been in a game when they play against him, fought for every ball.

Mc Sheff worked his socks off & took his goal really well.

Good to see Bigi back his cross to Norwood for the 2nd goal was NOT lucky, he played it spot on!!

Really good game....kid for a quid against Posh, so hopefully see a steady rise in the gates, get yourselves down there!! PUSB:claping hands:

Murphy 7- did well, save near the end looked like a camera save? not sure

Clarke 9- my old nemesis lol, great performance, shows good feet and an eye for a pass too,not attacking first half but rectified that second half and played his role in 2nd goal,MOTM
Hussey 8- what a different a left footed LB makes,i love the fact he gambles with cross shots, good game, also noticed he prioritied defending when eltuhu came on,that was pleasing
Keogh 8- captain keough strikes again,a few stray passes but what a throughball for platt!
Cranie 8- Was solid

Clingan 6- poor first half, but improved second
thomas 5- started well first 10misn but then things did not go for him at all, shame as like i said at the start he was playing some delightful cross field passes
Norwood 7 - great finish and passes well, but i want him to demand the ball more like scholes, another real talent though and you can tell he loves it here
McSheffrey 6- great well taken goal, other than that he did nothing and was a passenger, made more fouls than tackles and didnt anticipate much at all(bar the goal!)

Platt 7- Did ok,won headers but nimely and mcsheff let him down by not pouncing, also not clinical enough but we know what hes in team for, bless him he does try to make those tap ins doesnt he?
Nimely 6- In and out of the game, great pass for the goal,we dont help by long balling it to him, mboro game showed what he can do with balls to feet

Bigi 7- brilliant display, when he passes the ball backwards its part of a bigger picture,he will be something special possibly.

christie didnt have much to do,give him a 6 for not doing anything wrong though! footy manager style

overall 7/10...if that freekick went in who knows what would have happened so im not gonna get too carried away, better team may have made us pay today, but overall they worked hand 2 brilliant goals, plus a clean sheet, well done!

Murphy 7
Standard performance for him, did well in the corner situations.

Clarke 9
Superb, quality going forward, battled for everything and his first touch is quality.

Keogh 7
One or two dodgy moves, but still very solid.

Craine 7
Solid again.

Hussey 8
Quality performance.
Got forward fantastically and looked dangerous.

Norwood 7.5
Great performance, battle for everything, and took his goal well which came at pace.

Thomas 6
Struggled as the position he was occupying was more out wide.

Clingan 8
His best performance of the season, kept the ball well, and actually went forward at times!

Mcsheffery 7.5
Battled for everything, took his goal well.

Platt 7.5
Battle for everything once again, for a 33 year old tank, he gets forward at speed:eek:
His first touch is brilliant, and causes so many problems with his height, should of finished that chance in the first half though.

Nimley-7
Decent performance, still yet to have a clear-cut chance, his movement and chance creating is brilliant, the ball for norwood was pretty decent as well.

Thorn 9
His subs were well timed, and was right to put bigi on.

Bigirimana-8
Superb, slows it down, spreads the ball around well, and if that skill had come off I'm sure he would of been on soccer am showboat.
Inspirational for the rest of the team and is the fans favourite.

Cyrus - nothing really to do but made one decent defensive header.

Fans 9
If I'm correct that was one of the highest home crowds of the season?
Pretty much non stop singing again from Singers corner, and the generally passion shown was fantastic.

Maccers bucked his ideas up 2nd half and chased well. Deserved well taken goal. Reviews are saying Hussey scuffed his cross but I was sitting right in line behind him and it looked like a great incisive pass to me. Thought Platt was invincible....shame we don't have more players following up to get onto the loose ball.

It was a very tense game and I could only really relax once the second went in...great cross for Norwood....

More of the same please.

Yeah i thought it was a shot too. Worked out alright though.

He didn't scuff it, but it looked like a shot to me.

I thought it was a driven cross as well. Just reporters feeling sorry for Pompy trying to make out it was a lucky goal.

Seemed that way.

I sit in Block 19 and was right at the right angle for it. Certainly looked like a shot from where I was sitting.

Who cares. :D

If we win every game and at the same time are reported as being shit or lucky I think I can live with that.

Its funny how we can all watch the same game but have such varied opinions! For what its worth, I thought McSheffrey did very little, EXCEPT score the goal, but I would be more than happy with a goal-a-game contribution from him. How CWR could say he had been excellent is beyond me, although others on here have said they thought he played well..........
Clarke was easily the MotM, although I was disappointed that he seemed to be reluctant to venture too far forward in the first half (Managers orders??), with Hussey putting in a very good performance (except for the dreadful back-pass, which could easily have seen a goal/penalty/sending-off for Murphy - but he put that behind him to bounce back well). Anyone know why he went off - hopefully just tired or a minor knock?

To be honest i thought we were pretty poor yesterday. At the end of the first half i thought Portsmouth were unlucky not to be ahead. We were really nervous, no-one wanted to be on the ball and we were struggling to put two passes together.
In the second half we came out well and played some decent stuff for 10 or so mins and got our goal ( great finish by McSheffery) however Portsmouth we battling well and looked odds on to get the next goal, abit of clever play from Clarke and Nimley and we managed to get the killer goal against the run of play.

After that Portsmouth pretty much gave up and we killed the game well. Why they didnt play Fuctas from the start i dont know, he looked very dangerous and was huge!

Got the points though and thats what really matters PUSB.

Sheffers was lost playing behind front two good goal tho.Nimley was poor, I think he would be a better winger Thomas poor but playing out of position and the rest battled well good win and we need to keep the home form going Pompey fans made it a good atmosphere

Hussey was hobbling badly at the end of the game, I saw him come back on the pitch to shake some hands after the whistle and he didn't look too clever tbh

yeh it seems the result is masking the performance for many again, there were times when we couldnt touch the ball or gave it away when we did have it

performance wise id give us 6.5/10,not terrible but not great either,

The good thing is that we matched a much better team in Cardiff, so I wouldn't worry too much. Saturday was always going to be a scrappy, nervy affair.
