8 for clarke? All he did was set up the goal. He was poor apart from that

At least 3 superb defensive interceptions in the last 10 minutes?

He did do some stuff well, but also made a number of mistakes. Which is why I only gave him 6. thought his performance was rather mixed.

Really? I thought the lad was totally unplayable. The only blot on his performance was the casual roll past the post when one on one (really should hit the target as a minimum there). He showed pace, tricks, strength against very tight and deep markingt and yet despite only being on loan his work rate was unbelieveable. Along with Platt and Keogh who gave his usual commanding performance, he was one of our top performers imo.

I agree with this, the lad was buzzing today. Was feeding off scraps and Platt knock downs for the majority as we were very long ball today. There were so many balls where you are thinking he is never getting that but the desire was great and he wanted it more than any of the Barnsley defenders.
Barnsley were shitting themselves everytime he got the ball and tried to not allow him to get into his stride running with the ball.

Clarke was dreadful against Leeds but clealry short of match fitness for a young guy playing out of position. He was massively better today and the desire at the end to get the ball back for Platt was an outstanding contribution. Still wayward and positioning a problem, but will get better and has all th ebasic tools to have a decent career imo

Clarke was also one of our best players against Forest, and he's not yet fully fit!
Lay off the lad, he'll learn from his mistakes and improve with time.

Also terrible versus Forest - both goals coming down his side. It was his positioning then too for me.

The desire at the end today was fantastic though.

Totally agree. Claus Jorgensen said it was schoolboy stuff when Clarke came out of position to chase the ball and Barnsely simply passed the ball around him leaving the winger free in acres of space to get a cross in, in the first half.

That was embarrassing from the young player. As I said, he did a number of things well, but also made a fair few mistakes and on another day, that could have cost us.

Barnsley Ratings

Going to the game yesterday was a refreshing change to see us actually outplay and attack a team for long period. Felt very unusual.
makes you think how have Barnsley got more point than us when they looked very poor

My Ratings

Murphy - hard to rate, did he have to do anything?
Christie - 7
Keogh - 9 (so hope we can keep hold of him for next season, gives the defense so much composure)
Craine - 7
Clarke - 7 (Only becuase he assisted the goal)
Norwood -7
Baker - 4 (Dear god he was dreadful)
Deegan - 7
Sheffers - 6
Platt -9 (Man Mountain of a player, was very impressed)
Nimeley - 8

well thats my two cents anyways.

That's fair. You forgot Bell though. I'd say, due to the impact of taking Baker of, he gets a 7. I also think 6 for Sheffers was a bit generous. He was surprisingly absent.

Clarke is a right footed right back playing at left back

Just saying its not all his fault.

Didnt see gary Neville playing at left back much did you, wonder why that is, oh, because Man Utd could afford to have a fit left back.

Clarke is doing his best in a position he doesnt play. If he was playing like this at right back then fair enough, but lets leave off him hey !

If you want to hear an exercise in self-delusion listen to Keith Hill's comments on BBC Sport. Says Barnsley deserved more from the game and kept our goal threat to minimal levels and after he'd set his side up to get a point how close them came.

I would have liked to hear the interviewer ask him about our 19 shots to their 3 and also why they'd come to us looking only for a point?

Thought that the game yesterday very closely matched the Leeds match in that they started brightly, a side full of confidence but we got totally on top in the second half and showed real determination to get something. Rewarded twice by late winners. I've long said that these late goals aren't lucky, look at Man Utd and how often they score them.

Keogh and Cranie had virtually nothing to do. When they did receive the ball (usually kicked straight to them from a Barnsley error) both were able to bring the ball forward unchallenged as the opposition retreated. Their distribution was often poor or hoof.
Thus both can get 6, or 7 if you wish to be generous.

This love-in for Keogh is getting tedious now.

This love-in is based on us having one of the BEST centre backs in our league (arguably THE best) who gives us outstanding performances week in week out, could easily make the transition to the Prem League and is the sort of player most clubs dream about.

But we've got him - so let's enjoy whilst he's here - it might not be for very long !!!.

yeh forgot to rate Bell i suppose he would have got a 6/7 did ok, but a long with most of the midfield wernt really excelling.

i see your point about clarke playing left back too , but last time i saw him play was at right back and he was just as average.

Keogh probably would have had less to do if the midfield in front of him wernt so, jittery at times, i felt he had to show a calm head and look after them often.
Saying he hoofed it a lot, his distribution to platt was reasonably good.

Do you not think a lot of this was to do with how Barnsley marked tight and squeezed the play into a limited space though?

Often when the defenders had the ball their outlets were limited and the movenment ahead of them was not very sharp or bright, leving them to go on a marauding run (of which Keogh did considerably more than usual) or to kick longer than desired up to Platt and hope it stuck there. Barnsley may have offered nothing, but they had certainly done their homework on us.

Keogh and Cranie did what was required of them and made some decent interventions and never gave the opposition a sniff with the exception of one mistake When Cranie mis-timed going for a header on a high line and was well beaten to it by the CF, but Keogh even then went across to hold him up.

I think the "love-in" is far from tedious and is justified here. He is player of the season so far (imo) by a country mile.

Yeah Barnsley & Leeds really closed the space down. The midfield had a hard time finding an out ball, that is one reason why Bell coming on helped a lot, he made himself available & can hold the ball.

Keogh is player of the year and he has played well in most games, but he is over-praised for this, as he has been the best of a bad bunch.
I'm dreading the time he gets caught in possession and costs us a goal, which looks likely as he takes too many risks at times...many close shaves recently where he almost lost it but recovered well. He needs to keep it simple.
BTW, if it happens we will all make excuses for him

Yeah, and I'm really angry with Murphy for that error he might make in the next few weeks, probably... and that sitter Alex is gonna miss against Palace...:thinking about:
