A tad ott I think. It's certainly a lot better than it was in the 70's.
And I'd hardly say the country is full of racists, just the odd few I'd say.
There were over a thousand away fans yesterday, and 1 reported incident,
(Still 1 too many) but it hardly merits such a rant.

I don't think it is better. I think in the last 5 years it is getting worse again without doubt. Some of the national press like the Daily Wail are fuelling it, even to the extent of airbrushing certain garments over people's faces in photographs, then later removing them when challenged. Why do something like that unless it is trying to provoke a reaction to a story that already has loads of factual inaccuracies.

If you think the UK is a racist country, you wanna get yourself over to Eastern Europe and the former communist countries, it’ll blow your mind.

Sorry if that went over your head.

It's a reference to the fact that IS members or supporters aren't unknown in the Luton area.

As an aside, it may be unpleasant calling someone a terrorist who isn't, but it wouldn't really qualify as racism.

I must admit, I do agree with this.

Those countries are really stuck in the dark ages. It's not a surprise to see their fan culture mimicking what it was over here in the 80s.

In terms of what happened Saturday, it was disgraceful and I'm sure they will get punished for it. However, let's not brush all Cov away fans as being bad. The support Saturday was outstanding. Stood around me were teenage lads, an old couple in their 60s, a family in front with a kid no older than 6.

Every club has their idiots, I actually think we have less than most. To the person who said they don't go to away games because of it, you shouldn't let one or two stop you going.

Anybody that is racist is a dickhead, anybody that defends or deflects from racist behaviour is a dickhead. Lets hope that the guy feels embarrassed by what he said and sorts his shit out. No need to say anything else really is there.

Apology accepted. But joking apart when you're in your sixties, teenagers think your ancient, but someone in their eighties think you're a spring chicken. A customer said to me recently she was surprised I was still working at my age ! WTF !

I've lived in Eastern Europe for over 10 years. I don't find it any more racist here - the main difference is that in the Uk people are a bit more polite and apologetic about it. It's a lot more passively ingrained.

Whats the problem? spent 20 years as a young lad from Irish parents who came to Coventry in 1953 potless, my mother trained to be a midwife and staff nurse at Gulson hospital, my old dad went to the butts college at night (could hardly read or write) and did his city and guilds 1 and 2 and worked for British Gas for 36 years. He also joined the territorial army and ran for Coventry Godiva.
Worked another 21 years as a caretaker at Barrs Hill. At 84 they still asked him to come in and show the new young lads the job.
He also worked as a steward at Highfield Rd for 8 years too.
I lived through an era of comedians on tv telling jokes about "paddies" and how thick they are ...English Irishman and a Scotsman blah blah and the IRA bombings when as a 7 year old lad abuse from people who knew better who were mothers of children who used to play with me.
My parents put more into this great country than millions of people who scrounge, shag and just live a life on hand outs. Some one who gets called a paki etc is wrong but dont forget what my parents and many many other families got far worse.
"No blacks no dogs no Irish" was often seen in boarding houses. Ask many a African person who lived through the same era they will say the same.
Too many people dont realise the world is full of ignorant people who soon change their attitude when a surgeon from African ancestry comes to see them before they go under the knife at hospital.

in what sense , no colour was mentioned, no nationality ,could easily hav been an English white muslim , don't get me wrong not in anyway defending him , but there are terrorists in every country of sort , to be called one is awfull if not one , but this was a stupid remark made more in a vain attempt to impress his fellow passengers which offended the decent folk who heard it and was embarrassing for the idiot ,

You're ignoring what actually happened though. A man called a woman of foreign descent who was wearing a hijab a terrorist. He was singling her out to abuse her / get a laugh from his mates which means he was discriminating against her because of the colour of her skin and her choice of clothing. This, by definition, is racism - as it would have been if she was white and he did the same thing.

The suggestion that he did it for a laugh doesn't make it better. The intention of singling someone out because of their race is what defines racism.

Must have been so embarrassing being in the same coach as this idiot and have people associate you with that incident.

I honestly think we should stop RE in schools and replace it with citizenship lessons and promoting care for others and focus on morality and scruples and ethics.

Let's face it, if you are a devout Christian, or Muslim , or Jew or Hindu, or Sikh, you are going to be brought up in that religion at home and are more than likely to go to a place of worship anyway.

I do think we should have a small degree of RE, but it should be just an explanation of the different religions and then it should focus on tolerance.

What’s wrong with that?

Not a fan of RE really, but I’ve worked in some pretty extreme religious schools and the RE teachers haven’t been zealots, just decent teachers committed to giving kids an understanding of religion.

I’ve met staff members who see it as their job to convert, but funnily enough never teaching staff and never in the RE department.

(I believe it’s RS (studies) not RE now anyway which highlights the focus on studying religion rather than being the educated in a particular religion)

Seemingly did it because of her race and what she was wearing? I would say that she was targeted not because of her race but because of her religion. A cheap and easy target in a place with a high Muslim population.
When I lived in Moscow you would not believe how overt the racism was. I saw people spat upon, assaulted, abused and were in no doubt they were not welcome.
This was horrible and it made you so uncomfortable that you could only imagine what the people on the end of it felt.
For me the welcome mat has been out in the 6 countries I have worked and lived in and although I had issues with some I never felt it was race related, more due to the fact they didn't like me.
Some may condemn these fans as racists and idiots and although that be argued about I would like to believe that such behavior has no place no matter what title is put upon it.

I just generally don't get it what world it is okay to call someone a terrorist based purely on their ethnic background and their religion.

I also don't understand people who when folk rightly call a racist a racist start throwing around words like "snowflake", if anyone is being a pretty precious snowflake it's them crying because they aren't allowed to be racist without being confronted about it.
