He had a good game last night but I have my doubts still, there was loads of space out there that he wouldn't get in the league and he seemed to struggle in tight spaces.

Struggled in tight spaces? Did you watch the game. He made the goal from tight spaces

Looks great with the ball at his feet running at defenders. No point trying to play intricate football with him though, looks shite with his back to goal. Stick to his strengths.

No he didn't? He had loads of space to run into there.

I'm talking about when he didn't have the space to run or when he got to the byline and slowed it down a bit he looked clunky.

I was sceptical, but last night saw the bones of potentially something useful.

He was direct, quick and wanted to go on outside - something we lack on wings.

Still very raw and light physically and fitness wise, but ive got more hope we could end up with something - next step can he come on for 15-20 min cameo and impact championship games, that would be huge bonus!!!

Bonus of winning, he can get another game in the 2nd round now.

I agree, he's not technically as good as Saka (from the limited evidence we've seen) so I don't know how much use he'd be against a low block.

But if we're one nil up and the opposition are coming at us he could be a very useful weapon to hit them on the break with space to run into.

He's young, raw and inexperienced but clearly has pace and skill.

Given the above, I was very impressed by his performance and I look forward to seeing how he develops this season because I'm sure he will get some game time.

For me, I think he is already good enough to provide cover and competition for Saka.

I don’t envision him starting Championship games anytime soon but I think last night at least showed that he does have ability and isn’t completely out of his depth.

Think Saka's close control etc. means he is particularly useful in home games when the opposition often sit back. But Rapha has the potential to be useful for us in away games (especially in the 2nd half against tired legs) where we are under the cosh and there is more space for him to operate in.

In fact, I can see him and BTA being very useful subs to bring on late in games (BTA on the left, not in the middle) when that pace can trouble the opposition. Don't see either as being regular starters for us, but useful squad members. Our new keepers long throws towards either of them could be very productive for us too.

This lad was dead on his feet by 70 mins but it was a great work out for him. He’s a talent for sure and when we get him 100% fit and its not frigging 30 degrees, he’s gonna be a real asset.

He was signed as a developmental player who is obviously very talented. You don't sign players drag them across the planet for them not to be.

But the key word again by FL is attitude, he has the tools to be a good pro, but does his attitude allow him to have the desire to make it in our game. His path will be a good one if he ducks his nut and opens his ears. Because he has pace, skill is there, he just needs more game minutes to build up his strength.

Patience is needed by the fans, because his style and age will bring inconsistent performances. But within the squad someone he respects has told him to do well in the game his talent is not enough, its attitude that will make the difference. I hope he keeps taking these steps and keeps getting opportunities to show it. He will stay in 1st team squads ahead of certain others and will get better.

thought he was brilliant. Nice competition with Saka out wide now. I always thought he'd be good, with no evidence, but I didn't think he'd be that good. Made the night for me his performance (Kai Andrews was great too)

If you don't see any potential you are a dumb ass... seriously the vision for the ball to wright was awesome. May not make it but that is the type of pass we need to be trying to unlock defences alongside a billion crosses of course.

Raphael song.

Rapha comes from a land down under,

The Wizard of Oz, our boy Wonder,

On the ball, here the Sky Blue Thunder,

You better run, you better take cover.

Came up with something even worse during a game last season for him to the tune of Englishman in New York (referencing his multiple nationalities and long ass name)... needs work;

Woah, he’s Australian, Dutch and Brazilian,
We call him Raphael ‘cause it’s easier

*leaves forum immediately, forever*

Even taking the opposition into consideration, he had the best debut I can remember for a long time. Luton had to change their backs, then double up on him to try to stop him, which created space for Haji to cross.
Only friendlies, but he created two of our goals with his wing play in the previous matches.
Looked quicker than Tatsu.
Probably one of the reasons Bassette is not in the squad.

Think the excitement in here needs to be tempered somewhat. Let's see how he does with 20 mins off the bench in a league game.
