I've been thinking about our current position and i've come to the conclusion that a lot more of the blame should be Ray Ranson than is often spoke of.

The way i see it is as follows;

He comes in as the man to run the football club onbehalf of SISU. He would have therefore advised SISU as to what the best plan of action is.

His plan i seem to remember him saying was to buy young promising players and build on a 3 year plan to at least back the playoffs etc. - he's then obviously involved in brining in Thorn as a scout and heavily involved in the signings of Dann & Fox.

One of the first things he does is sack the current manager (Dowie) - lets don't forget that came as a shock to us, we weren't all exactly screaming for Dowie's head at this point.

He then appoints Chris Coleman -and we just stay up after the debacle at Charlton.

Various promises come out that we will never be in that position again.

The policy of buying young promising players continues with the signings of Westwood and Gunnarsson and the 1 big money signing of Eastwood. High wages are then used to sign the likes of Morrison.

Season goes ok, good cup run, until a really poor run at the end of the season.

Now this is when all the action happens - we sell Dann & Fox. By all accounts this occurs because SISU accept bids for them against Ranson wishes. However even if they hadn't accepted the bids so early would we still have been able to keep hold of them, i personally think not. They both would have known of the interest and wanted to move - thus potentially being left we players who didn't want to be there.

Now at this point this is where my theory that its extremely difficult to build a team up over 3 years slowly these days comes in, as with all the power with players its difficult to keep hold of them that long.

Ranson does the right thing and try's to stick with his man Coleman. He gives him the whole of the next season - and again we are nowhere.

Time for a change the last throw of the dice so to speak - change of manager.........who does he appoint.....Aidy Boothroyd.............by this point funds have dried up.........and we all know the rest.

I can't help but feel that the 3 big decisions Ranson made..........sacking Dowie and his 2 appointments have had a much bigger impact on where we are now than people think.

As I agree with some of your comments, Did Ranson try to quit 3 times, because SISU did not like the money he wanted to pay for players, and build a team that would be able to go that little bit further.

And was it not the same SISU that would not let the funds be used on player's we wanted to bring in, and keep the players we had, Is it the same SISU, that sold players because they saw the pound sign's increasing, I.E Scott Dann and Dan Fox, and later letting Westwoods contract run down, letting Marlon King go without a fight.

It is the same SISU, that have come out and say they are fully behind the club and will continue to fund the losses, It will be the same SISU that will leave at the end of the season, stating they could no longer fund the club and are looking for someone to take over the club. I don't trust anything SISU say or do, as nothing they say or do come true, I think the signing of Big Mac and Fries is a token jesture, a way of pushing bad publicity away from them.

I for one back Ranson and hope he can come back and finish what he started, along with any of the investors that he and hoffman can bring in.( sorry for waffling on I will get off my soap box) PUSB, enjoy the rest of the season.:claping hands:

I must say that Ranson seemed the brains behind the operation, He may have made an incorrect choice in removing Dowie, but that i feel was his one bad decision. his ethos was correct and I think that the club would be in a far better position had SISU continued on the plan as set out when they "saved" the club.

Ranson has a footballing brain and he knew he was doing the right thing. SISU paint themselves as angels and try to make everyone else look bad. Youmy friend have been caught up in their web of lies.

more fool you sir, More fool you.

His one bad decision?

Appointing Coleman and Boothroyd the two largest contributors to the state we're in today.

The sooner fans realise we are not a big club anymore the better. We have been a championship club for a long time now and average 14-15k, we are no bigger than Brighton, Reading or Barnsley. We no longer have the power to stop our players moving onto better things regardless of who is in charge. In recent times Reading have sold Long, Mills, Sigurdsson (sp), Hunt, Sidwell, Doyle and Kitson but do you hear the Reading fans screaming for the owners head? No, becuase they realise the stature of there club is not big enough to keep these players.

Every club is a selling club apart from arguably Barcelona and Madrid. Even Man UTD couldn't stop Ronaldo and Tevez going.

The important thing is that we keep moving forward and reinvesting an amount not all back into the playing squad to buy players with a sell on value. Boothroyd loaded us up with players that have no/little sell on value and huge wages in Carsley/Platt/ O'halloran/King/ Mcsheffery etc.

I think the most important thing that happened yesterday is that it appears as if SISU do want us to stay in the league and do care about on field results.

When Boothroyd had a fit full squad was he winning games? Were we in the playoffs for quite a while? It fell apart when the money stopped coming. A few loanees to cover the injuries and he would've had more success.

I think Dowie's tenure gets clouded by the wins at old Trafford and eawood park. We had been in the usual free fall since the beginning of october falling from top 2 down into a relegation fight. He had to go.

Think that Dowie has one of the best win ratios of any Coventry manager, sacked pretty much straight after a 4-0 defeat of Barnsley at home.

One thing with Dowie, we always got goals(sometimes against admittedly), but how many times have we scored 4 goals in a game since Dowie left? Once against Southampton I can remember, before Coleman managed to knock scoring goals out of the team.

Yeah but I also remember Dowie playing Adebola On the WING !

Dowie brought in some real crap players.

Remember Adebola mistly playing in a front three with Mifsud and Best, and he wasn't too bad on the wing anyway, also remember him being sold in the January transfer window, which may have contributed a bit to the decline.

Don't think that we have actually made any money on players brought in by Coleman and Boothroyd, something that can't be said for players under Dowie,

Probably couldn't argue with most of this until you spoilt it with the last line, what a laugh they only care about money and their investment, not the team.

Coventry Vs Scinthorpe 5-1 away win but I agree with your point Dowie had something like 40% wins.
