The moral is the specific thing you’re blaming on JDS are also done by our other fullback and are clearly instructions. Like having everyone back at corners I don’t agree with them but that’s what they are. You seemingly only see one side of the pitch I guess but Sakamoto for example is frequently found at RB and MvE is frequently not challenging the winger and instead defending narrow. I don’t know why you don’t see this? Maybe your seat is restricted view?

I certainly wouldn’t argue that MVE is any better than JDS at defending. He does other things better though. We concede some ridiculously poor goals - most start out wide - it’s undisputable.

I’d wager most goals for most teams the ball is out wide at some point. For me it’s indisputable that we have tow CBs who are regularly bullied, are poor when dribbled at, and who constantly lose their man in the box. Blaming your fullbacks for conceding is like blaming your wingers for not scoring, ultimately there’s someone with much more responsibility on the pitch who needs to be looked at first.

Like I said, anything JDS does wrong is tactical but anything Kitching does is him fucking up.

MVE Blocks a lot more crosses than JDS does. It even goes back to the Robins era when JDS played, he just doesn't stop crosses.

I dont think “steam in and miss the ball” and “completely lose your man in the box” are the new footballing metas, no.

I think JDS does do other things wrong but as he’s used as a wing back and we are told to defend narrow I don’t think it’s the things you’re whining about.

Dasilva has set the bar so low that even average performances this season have been described as brilliant. Some on here reckon he’s worth is £5 million if we sold him. He has no pace or presence.

But "watch your man run past you while you are out of position and don't track back" is along with "let the winger get a cross in the box unchallenged". It isn't defending narrow, it's not defending at all.

JDS being unable to stop crosses isn't tactical, he has always been like it while he played for us. MVE was also out of position a lot even under Robins but his pace helped him out.

Sorry it doesn't fit in with your agenda that he's a world beater.

But he did track back? He was closer to the goal than Kitching along with Grimes and Eccles when that ball went in?

It’s not me with the agenda. I bet you think we don’t press the keeper because Haji Wright is lazy too.

No, hence I said in the thread about it.

I am talking in general, his weakness is blocking crosses and was before Lampard was even here.

Being closer to the goal than Kitching doesn't mean he has tracked back when Kitching has stepped out.

MVE has the pace to make up for his mistakes
JDS is small and slow - and has stopped playing the winger, but instead leaving him in too much space, so can never catch him

If he plays mixing tight marking and interceptions as he was earlier in the season he would be ok, but trying this idea of giving the winger a clear run will never work

Do we know this is what they are told? How? It’s insanity if true. A bit like telling midfielders not to cut out passes as we’ll just deal with them in our penalty box. The alternative theory is that neither MVE or JDS can or want to defend properly.

I'd say it's,a fairly safe bet they are.
The alternternative is they're just doing their own thing week in and week out which is more insane.

It's a tactic a fair few teams use, but I think our problem is we use it while simultaneously asking the FBs to push up ridiculously high, once we lose possesion they've got little to no chance of getting back.

What does it matter if they’re told to wave crosses through? They might as well be up the pitch. Neither full back has ever done it. Personally I think it’s as simple as both of them are very poor defenders.

Were the forwards not running then? Say what you like the defence should have been able to handle both crosses.

Defenders do not like being turned and running towards the goal, maybe if Bobby can get tighter it doesn't go in, once we loose the ball and let them work it out wide and knock it in under zero pressure you're at risk.

We are way to open, zero pressure on the ball, not tight etc. this is from front to back. We were not this open at the start of the season but then we defended from the front as a team. This isn't an issue I'd lay solely at the back 4

I think we protected the defence pretty well by winning the ball higher up the pitch earlier in the season. Last couple of months for whatever reason we seem to not be winning the ball so well and that’s exposed our weak defender IMO. I guess that’s what Onyeka is here for but I would like to see the rest be more aggressive and onto second balls like they were.

I can only think fatigue and injuries has now resulted in a complete lack of confidence/belief.

Torp has regressed to the Torp that arrived a few seasons ago, not the guy that thrived at the end of last and the beginning of this season. He really looked sharp on and off the ball. Now he looks like he doesn't know when to stick or twist!

There's a whole host of readons why what worked in August and September may not be working in December and January.

Some of our best results actually came with BTA out wide with his excellent work rate.
