‘Disgraceful!’ That’s the view of Coventry City fans from the Keep Cov in Cov campaign who will be
protesting outside the offices of the Sky Blues’ owners, the sisu hedgefund, at 1 Red Place, London W1K 6PL, Wednesday 28 August 4.30pm-6pm, followed by a meeting for London-based City fans in the neighbouring Marlborough Head pub.
After Sunday’s game against Preston, played at Northampton’s Sixfields ground, the Sky Blues remain bottom of League One with fans still overwhelmingly boycotting the move to Sixfields. Sunday’s attendance was just 2,068, compared to last season’s average of over 10,000 at the Ricoh Arena, and season ticket sales have reportedly fallen by 90%. Despite much talk from sisu about identifying potential sites for a new ground closer to Coventry, there are still no concrete plans in place for a return to the City which has been the Sky Blues home for 130 years.
Keep Cov in Cov Campaign Coordinator, Michael Orton, explained: “the move to Sixfields is opposed by the vast majority of City fans and is clearly unsustainable. We have got to keep making our voice heard and this is what we will be doing this Wednesday”.
The theme of Wednesday’s event will be a continued plea to secretive sisu boss, Joy Seppala, to meet with City fans – something she has so far refused to do. As Michael put it, “Seppala is the person calling the shots. It’s high time she faced up to the people who are suffering because of her actions – Sky Blues supporters”.
