Proposition that should/could possibly be discussed? (7 Viewers)

Stadium move. I know we probably don't have the funds right now, but would it be more expensive to move to something like a 20-25k seater and actually own it, it's a chance they should consider as it could cost around 30-40m? I dunno, but it could end up being a profit as god knows how long it'll take to buy the stadium that's gonna cost what, £20m I heard for both halves? And including 500k? Loss a week...

Just a topic to get talking..

Will never happen, would need permission from the council to build a new stadium which they just wouldn't agree to having plowed millions of pounds of tax payers money into the Ricoh.

It's something I've spoke about with people before but it hinges on one vital thing that would never ever happen.....gaining planning permission.

Do you really see Coventry City Council giving us permission to build a stadium anywhere in the city that will take away their rent money each year or worse still rival the Ricoh?

It's an idea I'd love to discuss fully and will do on here with the rest but it simply would never happen for that reason.

edit - Looks like me and Marty are on the same wavelength :)

I cant see it happening. We've got a perfectly good stadium with great facilities. A new stadium would cost 100million at least. We have no money whatsoever so spending 100 million on a stadium will kill us. SISU will barely spend 50p. The problem lies with not owning the stadium we have now, just spend 10-15million on buying half the stadium we have.

its a fair discussion mate. Would love to get a stadium, smaller and within the city but not feasible now

Didn't the council also pay for the Rugby stadium?? was there any reason for why we couldn't ground share a bigger version of the rugby stadium?? It's in a great location and there was plenty of room for them to stick a decent sized ground on there.

A team that can't afford to buy a half-share in an existing stadium is meant to look at buying land, planning permission and building an entire new one?

Maybe if we're priced out of a deal for Le Fondre we can nab Edinson Cavani instead.

The only way that something like this will happen, is if we do an AFC Wimbledon, and start a new club from scratch, possibly from playing at The Butts or somewhere similar

what's the point in moving from a 32k arena to a 25k arena when only 14k home fans turned up for the biggest game of the season yesterday! Better to stay where we are and get on with improving the transport links although I don't see the problem with them, plenty of car parks if you are prepared to pay, plenty of buses/taxi's after the game and yes you might weight ten mins to get on one but that's not the end of the world either.

I know it's like 99.9% chance not gonna happen but still a worthy topic

Nope, its 100% and a waste of time.

I will take bets at 1:1 that nothing of the sort happens in the next 25 years, just give me your stake for safe keeping :p

pointless discussion

agree with mattylad and others

planning unlikely - timescale 3 to 5 years - dropping to 25k capacity wont mean full ground or better atmosphere - financial penalties for breaking our tenure at the Ricoh - if we cant afford £500k for a player how would be even afford the design fees etc of a new ground - money better spent on the team - we cant afford £10m for half of ACL how do we afford 10's of millions for a new ground - smaller ground would restrict other income sources eg concerts, conferences etc etc. Could go on but no point because it is an absolute non starter

not one advantage to doing it

we have a superb stadium with great facilities and the added bonus its a great venue for concerts etc. We need to own the bloody thing and this would become a mute topic!!!

Yes lets move to the Butts..... a bit of land that has onje stand in which holds about 3 k.

1st of all name a plot of land big enough to build a 25k stadium on.

Something tells me we wouldn't be playing there if we were in L2 or even the BSP-the rent would be too much; in which case we'd surely have to consider a groundshare of some sort?

Don't laugh, it could happen. And I think relegation to that level is a lot more likely than 99.9%!
