How do ou think he'd get on at CCFC, one of the 'bigger' teams both in stature and financially in our league? We also have some good youngsters coming through who the old manager largely ignored.

Thanks for the info you've given.

If you allow him time to put together a team and don't get on the young players back you should be fine.
His worst attribute is when he signs players.
Even though he found us a couple of cracking forwards, he has about a 1/4 success rate with players he signed.

I love Scottish football me. Used to go a lot with my mate in the late 80s and 90s. Raith Rovers was "our" team but we went to Falkirk (was at their last game at their old stadium, I seem to remember - late 90s?), Cowdenbeath, Albion Rovers, Arbroath, QOS and loads of other teams - all lower league, we never saw any SPL rubbish. We used to go to QOS a lot as it was the nearest. Worst journey was going to Arbroath. Left at 3am Saturday, saw the game and got back at 3am Sunday morning. Brilliant!

I am embarrassed to say that I have never been to Scotland. Or indeed, Wales. In fact, I have never ever been out of the country.

I don't have a passport either so can't see that changing any time soon.

Assuming you're not doing one of your 'jokes', this explains an awful lot.

Me? Kidding? Nope.

Been to the Isle of Wight. Not sure if that counts.

Luckily I didn't need a passport for there, so guess that is still England isn't it?

I'm genuinely shocked then. Ha ha!

Late edit: Not buying it, you must have been abroad.

Scottish football is only as good as its crowds and its revenue and the crowds up there apart from half a dozen teams are dreadful. Most teams survive on gates we see in Blue Square North or the Premier at best.

Yes, but England is 10X bigger than Scotland and our average crowd is just under 3000.
What English team outside your top 2 leagues average nearly 30,000?
Also we have far too many teams far too close together.
In the central belt of Scotland you will find about 60% of the 42 senior clubs.
It is actually amazing so many fans go to watch some of the teams.
We do ok when you look at population and how attractive the product is.
It's absolutely brutal up here when most towns have more kiddy on old firm fans than fans who actually go and watch the local team.
My area, Falkirk has thousands of Rangers fans that rarely go.
Because we have played them twice this season in the cups and I went to both games, I have actually been to more Rangers games than most Rangers 'fans'

I imagine you guys get the same problem with Man U, Man C and Liverpool etc?

So why do we need a passport to come to England, then Otis?

Only joking.

Haven't ever been to Scotland though. The weather that has always put me off.

Been to the States, Portugal, Austria, France, Russia, Italy, Germany, Ireland.

But besides them I've never been abroad.

I have been to Falkirk a few times, but only to watch East Stirling (long story), but always made to feel welcome up there and had some good times.

Went to watch you one year play a cup tie at Stranraer (you lost), but seem to remember a really good following from Falkirk that day and the pubs were lively.

I wouldn't worry too much about Scottish weather, it's not like we enjoy club tropicana here. I haven't been up in a while but it was always lovely in the summer.

I was at that game as a young laddie.
You must be talking nearly 20 years ago now, it was a Scottish cup match.

Yes-but-no-but-yes-but England is half-full of Scottish, Welsh & Irish people waxing lyrical about how fabulous their mother-land is & therefore far too per-occupied to impact on attendances.

He's been playing 1 up top for a while now, although that may be more to do with personnel.
He is big on keeping the ball with pass and move, he certainly doesn't do gun Ho.
We play 4,5,1 and have finished 3rd both previous seasons and on course to do so again.
Given the cuts to our budget and reliance on youth, we really shouldn't complain.
You guys understand my accent ok?
