Pressley "I want 8 players" (7 Viewers)

Steven Pressley wants Cyrus Christie to complete his move to another club sooner rather than later to help boost his transfer kitty.

Although any fresh deals the Sky Blues boss lines up are not dependent on the compensation City are due to get for losing the 21-year-old Academy graduate, the manager admits the funds will help.

The club are hoping to get a six-figure payment, ideally negotiated but from a tribunal if necessary, for the out-of-contract full-back, due to his age and fact that he was developed at the club.

Pressley has also identified an unspecified number of other members of his squad who have been told they can find themselves another club this summer, which would also free up wages to be used on new signings.

“I don’t need that money from Cyrus to enable me to recruit but we don’t want it dragging on,” said Pressley of the defender who, ideally, wants to step up to the Championship but who has been linked with a move to the Major League Soccer in the United States.

“I’ve obviously got a budget and everyone in the league structure is governed by Financial Fair Play.

“But just now I have a surplus of money to go out and bring in a number of new recruits but I still also need to move the pack a little bit, Cyrus being one of them that will help in the recruitment process.

“So I have got money but we’re all governed by the fair play rules. But Cyrus moving on would create even more funds for me so there’s no doubt it would provide additional funding in order to help the process of recruitment.”

Pressley admits he wants several new signings to boost his squad and has already made a number of offers to players.

Among his targets are a new goalkeeper to replace Joe Murphy, a centre-back, two new strikers to link with and back up Callum Wilson, a holding midfielder and pacy wide players for the first team, while he also hopes to recruit development players as well.

I don't think Cyrus can base decisions about his future career around quickly raising funds for SP.

Bit of a silly comment really.

If you are Cyrus you would do what's best for you and if that involves waiting for the best offer then so be it.

But if your Steven Pressley you would want to move the players out that don't want to be here...

If Cyrus doesn't want to be here then of course Pressley would want to move him on quickly..

Hoping for a six figure fee for Christie doesn't suggest riches to come...

Also where is the 8 players quote?

Among his targets are a new goalkeeper to replace Joe Murphy, a centre-back, two new strikers to link with and back up Callum Wilson, a holding midfielder and pacy wide players for the first team, while he also hopes to recruit development players as well.

Let's break that down:

1 Goalkeeper
1 Centre back
1 Holding Midfielder
1 Pacy wide player
2 New strikers
Development Players (Plural)

By my count that's 8.

Oh ok sorry thought he had said 'I want to sign 8 new players' the title has quotation marks, I could not see the quote in the story so I thought part of it had not copied and pasted in.

Of course he would, but saying what he has said will not make any difference, Cyrus will rightly wait till he gets an offer that suits him.

Also where is the 8 players quote?

Robo has made his own interpretation of the article.. it isn't entirely clear if the last paragraph of which is a SP quote or the reporters words.

I though 'development squad' players were bit part players, so not likely to get more than 3 or 4 games over the season, so I would say he needs at least 6 first team players is more accurate.

You are also forgiven for putting a "quotation " in your title for your thread that does not appear in the story ;)

It's called being creative ;)

Now now.

Only 8 players? I thought a team in football was 11. We need a whole new team with back up players. The squad last year was 5 good men short at least.

What's worrying me the most is the strikers? How much trouble did we have with strikers last year and he wants 3 this year all decent quality. I don't think it's possible. That's why we can't sell Wilson. He is proven quality.

Manset- flopped, Donnelly went home after a day. Eccleston was useless. The fonze was a flop. Doesn't look good does it.

That's why I named the quote the Cov Tel, because it's likely the Cov Tel who made it.

It doesn't matter if they are bit part players, they are still players so 8 is accurate..

As I said at the time I thought Manset looked good, problem was Manset didn't want to wait for Leon to fuck off, it would have been different if Leon had an injury and we were forced to play Manset, problem was we had two bang in form strikers making it impossible for Manset to get a look in!

Very true it thought he looked a good player also but ultimately he failed and cost us a signing and a budget til he was got rid. He wasnt the right mentality and attitude. Add him to the other 3-4 strikers who flopped then signing 3 this summer doesn't look good.

Also I am 90% sure Wilson will go so does that mean another 1-2 strikers then? That would be 4-5 strikers needed then. An impossible task to me.

Also apparently Manset was not keen on the training regime.

Donnelly was the real shame he has fantastic potential

Shame he was an idiot.

All joking aside I do think we need 11 new signings unless I am missing something.

I fully believe Wilson will go.

You need the 11 to have 22 players supported by untested kids.

The 22 includes the odd kid like Phillips and Haynes who have played a little.

Finding 2 suitable strikers for this division is gonna be a very hard task, it's near on impossible to lure 4 in! Young inexperienced strikers on loan is my prediction.

Spot on post.

Wilson will go and we need 10+ signings of experience and quality.

You forgot Webster and Daniels.

I expect Barton to leave.

Get Akpom back if he can fit us in around his youth team games!

Barton may take some shifting and I think will end up being paid to go.

CW will go. What then?

Baker probably told he can go but no one will take him.

Was Barton one of Waggott's star signings ?

TBH, we don't rightly know.. some will say it is Thorn & some will say it is Waggot.

Waggot is mainly a money man.. through he certainly dabbles in aspects of scout & checking out players.

The quote says pacey wide players maybe we're after 2 of them (I hope so, we need at least 2 if not 3).

So could be 9 players.

Hell of a lot of business to do in one summer. And a hell of a lot of signings to get right.

I was thinking Daniels may not be wanted after getting loaned out last season.
Didn't realise Webster Contract was two years.

I would say 10 signings in that case.

Nah Pressley rates Daniels which is why he extended his contract in November until 2016. With bringing prutton and Robinson in I think he just wanted him to get some games.

Didn't he say 11 academy 11 senior at one point? Or did I imagine that?

At the moment, we've got (assuming Barton & Christie go):

Senior:
GK:?
RB:?
CB: Webster
CB: Seaborne
LB: Adams
RW: Baker
CM: Fleck
CM: ?
LW: ?
ST: ?
ST: ?

Academy Grads:

GK: Burge
RB: Phillips
CB: Clarke
CB: Willis
LB: Haynes
RW: Daniels
CM: Thomas
CM: ?
LW: ?
ST: Wilson
ST: ?

That's 9 short, unless there's some kids coming through likely to play first team that I don't know about. What about Finch, Maddison, etc? Do we think they'll play a part? Might cut it down a bit.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the CBs go as well, probably Urquhart, maybe another if we're bringing one in.
