I also played with a lad at youth level who was on Arsenal books, Absolutely amazing player who I was convinced would play for England. Sadly he took a different path and finished a 10 year jail sentence in USA just last year 😳
Give us a name!

Remember when Danny Fox scored something like 4 free kicks in a row? HE was class and I remember one Jan transfer day Newcastle were linked with him and I spent all day glued to SkySports transfer centre.

I was adamant Lawrence Shankland would have been a great McNulty replacement.
As a replacement for McNulty he would have been fine tbf

its a hard one
Almost all on here without exception were not happy with signing Gyokeres and Sheaf
Yet at the same time the push for Ponticelli and now Tavares (still unproven)

I suggest we leave it to the experts (as long as that expert has hair so ruling out Andy Thorn and Russell Slade)
This often gets said, but isn’t true. A number of us on here saw Vik’s potential and were very keen not to lose him after his loan period.

Joe Bunny. I think he was playing for Rochdale at the time and against us he was outstanding and totally bossed the game.

He's now at Macclesfield and doesn't seem to have ever pulled up any trees. 🤷

I always thought....oh, I can't remember his name. Arsenal youngster originally. Midfield general type. Quite small. Grrr. Can't for the life of me remember his name or who he played for against us. This is quite recent.

He's had a few clubs and is still very good, but I thought he would make it right at the top.

Unless someone can enlighten me, I will have to have a very long think on it.

Was it Dan Crowley ?

The good - recently I championed Sheaf after his first season. He was always a good player. Just didn’t really have any luck

David Thompson. He tore us to shreds at the end of the season with Keane and co. and thought he was one of the best players I'd seen at HR. Assumed Houllier had suffered a stroke when he sold him to us for £3m in the summer.

Best ones I can remember are nick hating O’hare. @shmmeee loving DaCosta. @PVA and @procdoc insisting Dyke cost 20m. Imaginary steroid user @Ccfcisparks hating Godden.

As anyone will see from my history, I rated Gyo, sheaf, Bidwell and basically anyone that turned out well. Didn’t rate Biamou of course so I’m all good.

@Londonccfcfan how you giving Grendel abuse about madders when you said this? If only madders had the career of Jodi hey.
Hmmm, History with very little history. You only joined the forum 14 mins ago.

On city players I definitely thought Ponti would be a star and of the loans I'm amazed Dujon isn't yet a Chelsea regular. Still time for him I suppose but a career at the very top now less likely.

On negative I never saw it with Henderson despite everyone telling me he was good and I guess his career proven me to be very wrong yet even now I still don't rate him especially at international level.

Edit I forgot when we signed Drinkell and he scored 5 in first 4 I think it was and said to dad "this is exactly what we need, a 25 a season striker will take us to the next level" about 6 months to his next goal.

Non City, I thought we'd be building the England team around Jack Wilshere until I realised he was made of glass.

I also once made the bold statement to my two Liverpool ‘supporting’ mates that Salah was shit and would be another Liverpool flop before he’d even played a game for them.

Jean Kevin Augustin. Remember that french striker who went to Leeds in the Championship from Red Bull Leipzig, I always thought he’d go on to big things and play at the highest level, but had mental health issues and long covid. Never recovered, now playing at Basel

I remember thinking a young Ben Turner was too clumsy to be effective. Similarly didn't think Callum Wilson would have much of a career beyond L1 after his academy/youth days. Didn't think we'd sign Gyok the year after his loan spell was pretty underwhelming.

Eddie Dublin considered a way better player than his brother Dion with more potential. Night before his Leicester debut out clubbing with a babe. The rest is history.

Good - Always said there was a player in Sheaf even when everyone was on his back

Bad - thought Gyok was a fucking lumbering shithouse when we had him on loan and was amazed we paifd a million for him. How wrong i was

A mate of mine once wrote a letter to Man City (his team) saying they should immediately sign Stern John, after he stayed up late watching the MLS.

I dunno if this counts but I was adamant that city should sign Cherno Samba, Tonton Zola Moukoko and Mike Duff after playing Championship Manager.

Good - Ben Sheaf, called it after the first season we had him. Non city related , saw a young Michael Jacobs playing for Northampton before he went to wolves I think it was, said he’d make it to the top.

Bad - always though Ritchie partridge as good as he was, was destined for the top. Also didn’t think Callum Wilson would have as good a career as he did. Also saw Louie Sibley very early on for derby and didn’t think he would stay there long and would end up in the PL, didn’t quite get that one right but still has time on his side I suppose

good (but bad as well)

a young lad called Avon Jephcott plated in the same team as my son. He had so much talent, and was so much better than most every kid in team’s we played against. Played for City of course, but wasted the opportunity to make a serious career in football.

In the 15/16 season I was certain the best 3 players to play behind Armstrong were O'brien, Maddison, and Lamerias. I still stand by it.

Jacob Murphy and Ryan Kent were unbelievably frustrating and we frequently played much better without them.
