Portugal midfielder Adrien Silva will not be able to play until January, as Leicester's application to register the player on transfer deadline day was 14 seconds too late, FIFA have now rejected Leicester's appeal.

My thinking too, if they let this slide then unfortunately other clubs will have the same excuse in the future.

Whats the exact mechanism for registering players? You'd have to be extremely certain your times and records were spot on to reject something for being 14 seconds out. That seems well within a reasonable margin of error.

Lots of forms, passport details, registration etc. Having read a bit, L**cester, had one document arrive late, by all accounts and FIFA have just said "computer says no".

What a mess, just been reading a bit about it. His old club are saying they've sold him and he's no longer their player but if FIFA insist this stands he's not Leicesters player either so the two clubs are likely to end up in court as Leicester aren't going to pay £22m for a player who can't play for them.

Also seems there could be some ambiguity in the wording in FIFAs rules around if it applies to the paperwork being received or being sent, i.e.: if its on the way that could count. So thats another potential court case.

Given what happened with Bosman and the ruling that his right to earn a living was being restricted you'd think FIFA wouldn't be keen on this going through the courts. Is there not a danger the transfer window gets ruled invalid altogether?

Damn I thought this was a thread about players who can limbo! Must be Brazilian I guess!

As for the Leicester issue.... ha ha ha! Big gap in their midfield now!

Yep, is it via e-mail or some sort of portal where the clubs connect in to send them over?

Even if its something 'instant' like email I'd say 14 seconds is too small a margin of error. If it went to court you'd have to prove the time stamp on the email was 100% accurate or if Leicester present something saying they sent it with 30 seconds to spare and the delay was after it left there end what happens?

Could understand it if we were talking hours but 14 seconds is too fine a margin for me.

They should have sold Drinkwater earlier to fund it the brinksmanship has backfired.

They should be made to sign him and loan him to an impoverished fourth division team.

FIFA have completely rejected the transfer now, poor fella.
I believe they can appeal to The European Court of Arbitration but not sure.

Adrien Silva: Leicester City must wait for player as Fifa rejects appeal

No sympathy, they were given an extension by an hour, and still got it in late, it's the rules and no exception should be made.
